    Hello, thanks for this!
    I wrote you in the other video about the M6. I am considering buying this device, but what is the difference between the Puli and Spitz? The Spitz is 5G NR CAT19 and the Puli 5G NR, I think that is it (aside of the battery of course). If I own a 5G ATT phone and I plan to use a US mobile SIM, can I use ATT phone´s IMEI? Thanks!

    • @developer-of-things
      @developer-of-things  3 месяца назад +1

      They appear to be the same from a quick comparison of their specs. The Spitz is the only one of the two that is available for purchase on Amazon though. Amazon usually runs discounts on this device and delivery is faster. I'd recommend using a 5G IMEI number that you know won't be used in the same network at the same time. Some people try their luck with IMEI generators and others use an IMEI number of a device they own which would be the safest choice due to potential legal issues.

    • @developer-of-things
      @developer-of-things  3 месяца назад

      The IMEI number change on the Spitz router is permanent until changed again though so you might want to back up the original IMEI number somewhere if you ever want to revert it since restoring the device will not bring back the original IMEI.

  • @Ricks_Tech_Talk

    I see mixed info on the TTL. T-Mobile uses 64 but GLinet says to use 65 because your device to the router is one hop taking it down to 64. If using 64, they read you as 63 and that tells them you are using hotspot data. Have you used 64 on the router without tapping into the hotspot data? I get 100 gigs for data but only 5 gigs for hotspot.
    Love how the video was straight to the point, nice job

    • @developer-of-things
      @developer-of-things  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks, and whether to set it to 64 or 65 depends on "how" you set the TTL and it somewhat matters "where" you set the TTL. If you set the TTL to 64 using iptables then all traffic that passes through it gets it's TTL re-written to 64 which is perfect if you are doing that on the router that is also the source of the internet.
      If you repeat your internet on a router from a phone hotspot then you want to set the TTL to 65 on the router using iptables so all traffic is 65 when leaving the router and becomes 64 when leaving the phone.
      If you set the TTL on MacOS, Windows, Android then it won't be using iptables but some other method which would most likely set the TTL on that device where the packets originate, meaning if your Windows computer is connected to a phone hotspot and your Windows computer is repeating Wi-Fi it won't rewrite the TTL on packets from devices connected to the windows repeater but only the packets that originate from Windows will get the expected TTL.

    • @developer-of-things
      @developer-of-things  8 месяцев назад

      And yes, once you have the right TTL, APN, and compatible IMEI it does not count against your hotspot data.
      With Verizon I find that you only need to set the TTL and not have to make any changes to APN or IMEI if you are using a phone for hotspot.
      With AT&T and T-Mobile APN changes are required. Specifically adding 'dun' to the "APN type" field of your APN config.
      If you were using a cellular router, all three (IMEI, TTL, APN) need to be set.

    Question here - just joined the GLI gang with a small "Mango" I am using on a small project (love this little thing). Came across this video... am i understanding this right that I can sign up for an unlimited 5g phone plan, change the TTL to 64 so the carrier thinks all data going through it is mobile and not hotspot, and get silly home speeds for cheap? Currently paying 70$ a month for 300mbps down cable internet.... my mint 5g is about 600 down... Can i score an unlimited data plan and get more bandwith for less? Should i look into "tablet" plans or phone plans? I use about 1-2tb per month at home. Will my video streaming like netflix get killed, or if I use a VPN the carrier will have no idea what the data is and not throttle me down? Thanks in advance, great info!

    • @developer-of-things
      @developer-of-things  7 месяцев назад

      If you have a cellular router then the TTL would be 64 if you are using something like the mango to repeat WiFi which would be a another packet hop then you would have to use TTL of 65. Mint might not be ideal because I don't think they offer truly unlimited data without data caps with throttling. Also APN type should contain 'dun' and IMEI should be of a phone instead of hotspot.

    • @developer-of-things
      @developer-of-things  7 месяцев назад

      Using TB over cellular might not be a sustainable plan to rely on, probably would get service terminated if I had to guess. And yes VPN does help prevent throttling of streaming data but slows top speeds. Id say start with Mulvad VPN on the iNet router if it's available. It's a cheap, fast, and easy to setup option that covers all data that passes through the router.

    Hmm.. I really messed up. I was playing around with it the first day I got it. I changed to an IMEI of I phone that I seen online. It worked great. But is slow now. I actually want to change back to the factory IMEI. But resetting or rebooting doesn't work. And stupid me didn't wrtie down the original IMEI and I don't see it on the modem/router or box. Any suggestions to totally reset or find my original IMEI?

    • @developer-of-things
      @developer-of-things  11 месяцев назад +2

      I checked the packaging on my Spitz AX router just to find that the IMEI is not printed anywhere.
      I see there are two ways to reset the router using the physical button and from the admin panel. From what I know about the Nighthawk routers, they have a soft and hard reset where one will reset the IMEI number to original. I'm not sure about this Spitz AX router but you could try both the physical button and the admin panel reset.
      And by chance did the TTL happen reset itself on its own perhaps after a software update? The slowness might be because the TTL value was erased and should be manually set to 64 again.

      I did the same thing that you did getting a usb-c to barrel connector and connected it to a GaN power adapter that I had which could charge up to 100 watts but also said it could charge 12 volt 3 amps. After connecting the cord from the power adapter to the router, it fried the adapter and smelled like burned electronics. Instead, I would recommend a 12 volt car outlet to barrel connector. I got this one and it works great in my truck.
      AEISVIK DC Car Charger Cable -... www.amazon.com/dp/B08LN279CM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

    • @developer-of-things

      Also another thing worth mentioning, I think you said you drive a Semi truck. You might have a 24 volt system, I see the Spitz AX X3000 says 12V/24V on the barrel port so I think GL.iNet had truckers in mind when building this product.
      But personally I think I would still put a multi-meter on the outlet to make sure it doesn't exceed 24V by more than 1 volt.

    So is this device 5G I only get 4g . I mean speeds are nice at 70 . I’m using cricket but when I put sim on my phone I get 5G and speeds of 600. Anybody have 5G apn settings? Or is there a setting to enable 5G

      Usually if 4G and 5G connectivity is the issue, I would point to location, the SIM card, or the APN. Probably just make sure that your Android phones APN settings match the router. If you have an iPhone then you might have to find an android to insert the SIM in to read the APN data. I haven't had luck on iPhone with most carriers viewing the APN settings page since it is usually blocked.
