    The crucial step is that you need to set up port forwarding on your isp router
    Take the ip address from the internet dashboard on your Flint internet dashboard, and it's literally called ip address and finally set the public or private port to 51820. It's also called internal and external. It usually is a range, so duplicate the port number. Protocol is either all or tcp/udp. Remote ip address can be any, and dont worry its safe since you need a key to access it.

      @@preo2nd I got everything to work somehow. The only problem I have is DDNS does not work. i have already enabled port fwding for the server IP address with 51820 port. Not sure what is my mistake here.

      @preo2nd 3 месяца назад

      @travelwilder ddns setting is just a toggle button on the flint 2. It could be that the ddns provider set up on the Flint 2, maybe not allowed on your network. Try setting it up with another isp and see if it works. If it works then that's probably the issue is. Btw i also realized he missed one more thing. Every time a router restarts the private Ip updates. So, the port forwarding, we set up becomes useless. Dhcp reservation on isp router also needs to be set up in order to prevent that private Ip from being updated every time the router restarts.

    Maybe should also mention what get routed through the VPN by default? Does all traffic go through or just traffic destined for the remote subnet. With a manual Wireguard config, the AllowedIPs setting determines that, 0.0.0.0/0 means all traffic goes through the tunnel whilst something like 192.168.0.0/24 means only traffic to and from that subnet goes through the tunnel.

      You can use a spoof IP by logging into the captive portal of the hotel you’re at isolating another device like tablet or cell phone.

    Hi Crosstalk Solutions. Thank yo so much for your great explanation! You´re really clear! One question: I´d like to know if seting up this scenario, would it be possible (and how) to get THE SAME PUBLIC IP of the main router (the wireguard server), on the travel router (the wireguard client); so as to be able to use my tv streaming platforms accounts (Netflix, Flow, etc) when I am abroad (that platforms restrict the usage only to local ip´s). Thanks in advance!

    Very clear and informative, even for a network noob like myself, thank you!
    I do have a question, though...if I'm understanding this Wireguard VPN connection correctly, it is a secure way to access the LAN devices on your home network, from the remote location, but if one is sitting in a hotel , say, overseas, and one wants to connect to the Internet through a VPN like Proton VPN, do you then setup the Proton VPN client on the Home router (in your case, the Flint 2) and would all internet traffic from your remote overseas location then flow back home and out to the Internet through your home VPN Client to Proton servers, OR.....would it be better to simply setup the Proton VPN client on the remote (Beryl) router, assuming one does not need anything on your home LAN? I'd think the latter would be much faster with less latency, assuming I'm talking any sense at all! :)
    Hope my question is clear!

    • @macuser1232
      @macuser1232 4 месяца назад +5

      It would definitely be better to have a VPN closer to your actual location if you can. The main reason people set up their own VPN at home is either to access devices on their home network (as you said), or make it look like they're working from home as normal to their employer.

    Great content. I've been using travel routers since the TP-Link TL-WR703N in 2012. Have you tested DNS leaks with or without the AD Guard? Some TV streaming services will block you if they notice DNS leaks in a foreign country, which I have encountered with my GL-MT1300 after a firmware upgrade.

May 24th gl.inet published a blog post stating that the feature would be added to their products over the next 3 months and gave the order in which products would receive the feature. The blog post also gave directions for steps to take in the meantime to help mitigate BSSID tracking. I have a Beryl AX router which is among the 1st batch of devices which is supposed to receive the feature. The current beta firmware for my device, released June 6th, does have randomized BSSID support.
