I've decided to try and complete the second nickel coin roll hunting series books to see how many bank boxes it takes to fill the entire Dansco Album for Nickels dated 1938-1998. There are 136 slots to fill in Series 2 Books and the mission is to BEAT the 167 boxes it took for Series 1.
This is part 130 of the series (Boxes123-124 for Series 2) and I do plan on updating it from each nickel box I hunt from this point forward until the nickel coin collection is completed!
We found a ton of buffalo nickels and even a few rare nickels in this hunt BUT can we find that elusive 1950 D Nickel?

FYI - The Dansco Album does not have spots for some coins but we'll be hunting these boxes of nickels for Silver Nickels, Buffalo Nickels, Proof coins, Old Jefferson Nickels (namely semi-key and key date nickels), Liberty V Nickels and 2009's for their low mintage.
Let's keep our fingers crossed and our eyes open for some valuable Nickels!

I found a 1964 silver dime in a register last night. That's my second silver coin of the year, following a 1945-S quarter I found about a month ago.

congrats on the High D! old minting procedures really caused some blunders for the Mint and some big cash for collectors, and you can never get mad at a corral of buffalos!
I checked Heritage Auctions for the 1975-D High D. They have one sold in a PCGS holder. It sold on May 8, 2022 for $1080 in XF40. Nice find! I also look for them too. I'm a little bit jealous, but very happy for you!

A few months ago I actually found a 1931-s in AU-55 condition. Rob you should start a buffalo nickel book! Similar to how you kept all the Canadian cents you could keep all buffalos after this hunt because you found so many.

A priceless hunt. I love the Buffalo nickels. The mint didn't want to discontinue them and special strike was done in 1927 to see it could be fixed. Unfortunately it didn't work out, the Buffalo nickels taken out in 1938.
The 1975 high D is worth a grade to get it in a PCGS case.

yay. a longer video. have missed these. all the around 10 min videos we have been getting is sometimes not worth clicking. by the time we get anything the video is nearly finished because of all the chat before the hunt starts. i still click and watch. it's just an observation.
Man that's cool to see all them buffalo's in there. When I was a kid in the 80's, it was more common to find those and wheat pennies in your change. Those were the good ol days. And I've seen those high mintmark ones before! I didn't know they were that rare. Omg I wish I knew that when I saw them. 😫
I never heard of that 75 high D nickel before. Who knows how many I spent without realizing it. I did a bag of pennies today but I only got four common wheats. You get a lot more nice mintmarked stuff down your way than I do. That 1931-S is a great find. Such low mintage!

Definitely get that 1975 D Jefferson FS-401 High D certified & graded, its probably worth grading because an XF40FS (yours is obviously far from that but should still have more than grading value easily) example sold for about 750$ in 2019. Great talking piece for a collection because there are so few of them known to exist in a slab and in my opinion one of the most underrated Jefferson design mint errors due to it being easily visible to the naked eye even from a small distance, making it a great shelf display piece.

That 1975 nickel got my hopes up bc I thought the illusive 1950 D was found when Rob was describing it.
I found the high D last year ,the same shape or better than the 1 pictured by PCGS. I would sell mine if they were bringing big $ , but for now I'm keeping it ungraded. Congratulations !

Spectacular! The 2023 Red Book mentions the 1975 D "High D" nickel, but does not give a price on it.
You were extremely lucky with the ANB box. I've gone through at least a hundred boxes and maybe found one V nickel, 3 buffalo nickels, and a handful of 38's and 39's. 10 years ago, I was able to find many more early dates. Not so much now.
