Guys, these ants are Megaponera analis; not carpenter ants (genus Camponotus) or bullet ants (Paraponera clavata, wich also have a totally different distribution). This is the only species of his genus and are specialized in termites hunt. Also, a m. analis raiding party (200-500 ants) is totally incapable to pose a real treath to a medium-sized termites colony as some documentaries let would imply; and they attack almost only the termite's foraging spot (like in the video) or at maximum small satellite building and not the real mound. Also, in the NG video that often run in the internet the first group termite soldiers that go in conctat with the ants show a complete innatural beheaviour and are very likely prelevated from their colony, put in a bark and positioned in the ant's trail; and also the ants beheaviur can support this thesis: When a M. analis raiding party first ants arrive in the spot marked by their scout; they stop and let the all column to arrive in place forming a circular agglomerate; but in the NG video the ants attack those termites when the rearguard are still in motion in a column-style formation, so it seem very likely that the termite soldiers are added after the departure of the ants column from their nest. The mandibulated termite soldiers are formidable and effective fighters, but when they are foreced to fight in an innatural manner (like when put out of cover/shelter) their performance drops a lot (being blind and much less agile than an average ant). Of course we have exceptions, like the asiatic Macrotermes carbonarius, bolonging to the same genus of these termites but with much more agile and aggressive soldiers, thar actively rush out nest breaks or marching column (the often forage in open air) and attack anithing they perceive as opponent with a brutality worthy of the most big bad ant.
It sounds so peaceful. Meanwhile there's a big raid/war going on right below us. Its kind of funny to think about. They are at war, murdering each other and its so insignificant to us. Imagine if there's a species out there in the universe who feels that way about us.

This is better than NG because it shows simplicity of all this situation. NG movies look like they are specially provoking animals to such a behaviour they want to show. This is natural and beautiful. Thank you!

Correct. Matabele ants (Megaponera analis) only feed on termites and they're known for their column formation when they're raiding, which can be seen in this video. They're one of the largest ants in the world, but their nests are small compared to army ants. A large matabel ant colony might only have a couple thousand workers, whereas a large army ant colony would have several million workers.
They make a buzzing sound by rubbing parts of the exoskeleton together. A very ant-y sound. (In one of my sci fi stories the people communicate with their local ants with special gloves that have "striddy patches" that let them make stridulation noises by rubbing their fingers together. Like sign language that makes noise.) I love the way they run together.
The termites are lose in my area and they are everywhere. Flying, crawling and landing causing a stir amoung home owners. I remember one time i couldnt even go out in my back yard...There were army ants flying EVERYWHERE!!! it was so bad it mustve been mulitple colonies at war..It was really cool and something i will never forget
I wonder why the ants don't help their friends who are being bitten, sometimes they even walk right over them. I know they use scent mostly but you would think they would be able to assist.
I enjoyed watching one black ant wrestle with a termite under the cover. It made me laugh. And a helper ant knaw off a termite that was tightly clamped to a leg of one black ant, they spare no expence, it must have been very hungry, besides its easy pickings when you pull off juicy termites hanging off your buddy rather than go under the termite caverns and fight them on their own turf, I guess it brings out the enviromentalist within me !
One time I was triying to catch a big ant with the top of a bottle and accidently caught a termite worker without realizing it I putted the giant ant and it crushed the termite also I saw some of the same species of ant and saw them carring dead termites so I knew there was a termite colony in my house
During this sort of situation I'm ashamed to admit I wouldn't mind playing the 'Hand-o-God' and start randomly punching ants and termites alike for no other reason then to sate my raging ego.
those ants are ponerines, they don't destroy termites nest because they like their flesh and come sometimes to kill some of them. you can see that termites soldiers try to defend the nest, simple workers are no match with the ants.

Macrotermes carbonarius are extremely scary, I've seen a soldier behead a weaver ant in one bite.
thanks for the info
In other words the whole thing was staged. Someone placed those termites in the path of the ant column.

Those aren't army ants. Those are called "Bullet Ants" and they are the largest ant species on Earth, hence why they dwarf the termites.
