    Turns out that the Void switch is actually a noise gate, which explains why it didn’t change anything tonally. That said, it does seem to eliminate noise pretty well!

  • @WickedFesterBand
    @WickedFesterBand 2 года назад +5

    I used to have one. If I remember correctly I think the void was a noise gate for feedback suppression. (Ooops, just saw the pinned comment) I guess I just got old and started playing with less gain so I got rid of the pedal but it was a great pedal. Built like a tank and I liked the tone lock feature.

    It does the typical Recto thing, the metal part of it, even the passive eq but a Recto can do a lot more, I wonder if it can do that as well actually. Seems like a solid pedal there....

  • @dawnr8511
    @dawnr8511 2 года назад +5

    Oh wow! Ya did it and I am so happy you judged it as "Dungeon approved". The Void switch is supposed to be a type of noise gate. Lots of dust in that pedal. Seems you have very little if any interference in the line, so it may just be that which explains it as unresponsive? The trick I use on everything from old synthesizers to pedals with unresponsive switches and pots is to spray the heck out of them with contact cleaner (CRC is good.), preferably sprayed from the inside, but also works when it penetrates from the outside. Works for scratchy knobs on guitars too. Looks like the the stomp switch could use a shot. Spray and work it until ... it works! For me, it never has it attacked the plastics, paint or wood on anything yet. May leave a light residue, but wipes off with a clean cloth with alcohol or water. Thanks for the shout out. It was not necessary, but it was real nice of you to do it. 🏴‍☠🏴‍☠

I had the same problem with the on-off switch since day one. It was very embarrassing to get to a part of a song where you are supposed to kick in the Distortion and your tone stays clean. To fix this you really have to stomp on it for it to work reliably.

      Honestly, while I do occasionally demo something with both single-coils and humbuckers, that’s a lot more work. That wouldn’t bother me so much, but the truth is that gear demos are a dying breed. I still enjoy doing them, but the faster I can get them done the better because they’re never going to generate a lot of views on my channel, especially pedal demos. Most people are just burned out on gear demos.

    I feel strongly that the Soldano pedal released on Nov1 will be 3rd inline from first the Fulltone OCD to the Friedman BEOD to be the stupidly big seller. It is a natural progression as it takes Friedman Marshall sound to the next level of gain before Metal genres became so deserve that one size does not fit all. Both the Peavey 5150 and the MESA Dual/Rec use the topography of the Soldano SLO rather than a Marshall to start with.Big numbers with OD pedals are primarily sold to guys with low wattage small open backed combo amps. The Soldano will have them cornered. At $220.00 USD it is not too much to not justify more debt on your credit card, LOL

      The Sharp/Smooth switch works fine. I figured out that the Void switch is a noise gate, and it does seem to work properly.

      So, what you’re saying is that it seems broken, the smooth/sharp switch seems broken also, and the other one is noise reduction?
