It's a joy to see these videos of orchestral performances by the Frankfurt RSO. They are well recorded and the video production is excellent. Frankly, I find the critical remarks regarding the acoustics, the conducting, the spacing of the musicians, the tempi being too relaxed, etc., etc., to be churlish. Folks, a reminder: these videos are free. Hats off to the Frankfurt RSO for making them available. They are a welcome relief from the hardships caused by the COVID pandemic.
I agree, @allegro brio. Very generous of Frankfurt RSO for providing these. What is the concertmeister's name? I've heard of the maestra and the lead flautist, but I don't know the concertmeister's name. He's excellent, IMO (love his leadership on Shostakovich's 7th with Klaus Makela).
@@davidjared3402 The concertmaster's name is Ulrich Edelmann. www.hr-sinfonieorchester.de/orchester/musiker/orchestermitglieder/ulrich-edelmann,violine-100.html
(from Maryland) A very fine and illuminating performance. I can't be the only person who has appreciated being able to hear the winds (and even the tympani) so much better with the reduced orchestra size. Particularly given that Prokofiev was deliberately referring to the classical era, the reduced orchestral size is entirely appropriate.
No, you weren't the only person to notice that. I don't think I've ever heard the inner voices so clearly rendered as they were in this performance. Whether or not it was the "social distancing" or the musicality of the performers that helped create this clarity doesn't really matter. It was a joy to listen to.
Absolutely. Prokofiev's counterpoint is brilliant, and it's a joy to hear it so clearly from these talented musicians. I think the recording engineers deserve some credit too for the crystal clear quality of the sound, and well chosen video selection. Bravo, and thanks to all for this super video.
This is my first time listening to Prokofiev symphony no 1 and I think this is officially my favourite. It's very light-hearted and uplifting. I wish Prokofiev composed it longer. 💛
Its sparkling, spritely character is what makes it so charming. Why toy with perfection? [So you don't think I'm advertising carbonated beverages, a sprite is a playful little fairy. Not a big, tedious or overwhelming being.]
This is SO Perfect. I re-view & listen it, again and again. The camera work alone, grand enough .. 🎉. But the whole Thing . .. Sonic virtuosity, Best of Best of Frankfurt SO Personnel... 🎉🎉🎉. I have been to a concert for a long since the pandemic. These from Frankfurt RSO are such a great fulfillment in the times of need! Thank you for the great perfromance and high quality recording.
Oh me, fantastic. I love the music of Prokofiev and Shostakovich, I've even studied some of their piano music (to a point) and I love working on it no matter how frustrating the challenges may be. Lovely performance.
The name really doesn't have any significance as far as duration is concerned - William Boyce wrote 8 'symphonies' most of which are less than 10 minutes long.
Einfach wunderbar!
This is Prokofiev's tribute to the classical composers of the 18th century. In fact the 4th movement is a perfect example of the structure known as 'sonata form' and was used as such by Bernstein back in the 60s in one of his wonderful children's music education programmes. I've never forgotten that!
The passion, emotion and contradictions of Russia captured perfectly here by Prokofiev and, of course, by Tchaikovsky in the 1812 overture. Beautifully performed here, with verve and dynamism
Have the sound directors thought about putting some kind of sound screens in the hall? It's sounds really like in a church acousticswise and doesn't help the music. Unless this is left like this on purpose.
I love this piece. But with all performances I've watched so far there is always one thing that is wrong for me: the gaps between the movements are way too long. It is one piece of meat, not four schnitzels.
This is a beautiful piece, and all gratitude to the orchestra, but as a note to the recording technicians: the stereo separation is *way* too strong. Both ears would be hearing the string section or clarinet in person, not one in the left ear, one in the right, with barely any crossover. It makes this very weird to listen to with headphones.
I think I prefer the way she conducts in this another video with Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Alodra was amazing! Check this out: ruclips.net/video/6JXmpU35n14/видео.html

A little too relaxed. You can hear them almost run out of steam at the ends of some phrases. The last movement saves it, however.
It is a very average orchestra with a very (sadly) average conductor, having taken her place for political and social reasons!
