Update - we’re excited to say that Horizon has officially released the newer version of this bird. We don’t have plans to buy one new but if we do end up with one second hand we’ll be sure to share our thoughts on the updated version.

Love this plane…however, it definitely needs many upgrades if your OCD as I tend to be. The gear are a mandatory replacement as well as the ESC, and yes, tape or hinges for the flaps. A three blade prop, is for me, a no brainer, as well as lights, but all easily done and well worth the investment, as this is definitely a great flying airframe. Great video!! And thanks for sharing 👊🏼👊🏼
don't worry, the'll just install an ESC with its gimmick reverse thrust and batt voltage indicator. Probably same amp rating. this also bundled with a mandatory to buy SAFE receiver. all this at the additional cost of $200-$300. As for the landing gear, Jason Merkle of HH said to "get gud" the landing gear is fine, you suck.
Just subscribed. You speak about the planes like a full scale pilot. I’ve been working on my precision in the simulator. You’ve put a name to it for me: scale flight. Excellent review.
Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it. I bought this plane brand new 5 years ago. I'm still flying it and it remains one of my favourite aircraft. Very stable to fly and that's coming from a man who mainly flys nitro planes. But I do love this plane.
I just sold mine (it was the original issue type), because I believe it will be back with the electric updates, and I hope the same paint scheme as the updated 1200mm version. Time will tell, but I already (pre) pre-ordered it with my local store! I hope they update the gear, but don't think it will happen.
modified Carbon Z Trojan 2.0m owner here... the biggest flaw with this aircraft is the subpar quality retract servos and pigtail spring shock absorber gears... A plane this big should have proper vertical spring loaded gear that can vertically absorb shocks instead of only horizontal because it bounces the gear back and forth and not vertically for when you happen to make a hard landing in the vertical axis. these gears and servos can take a couple beatings but in my 2 year long experience of actively flying this fantastic plane, the default servos that Eflite sells always start to sag or improperly retract after 10 or so landings and seem to always fail after between 10 and 20 touchdowns, not matter how well you make butter landings on a well maintained grass runway, it should not suffer this much failure so quickly. the modifications I had to make to this plane is nothing short of painful for what supposedly is a semi scale trainer. I would gladly pay like a 100 or 200 dollars extra just to make sure it comes with high quality servos, reinforced and durable mounting parts which they screw on to and fully metal springloaded landing gear that is much better at shock absorbing.
Yay I found an original one in good condition. The retracts even work (so far). Flaps not fallen off yet. Flies great! 😀🛩 Found after watching your video so I had to have it on your recommendation.
Hey as it sits right now it still isn't out 😁 We had heard about that as with all their other "remakes" with the Smart software. Our hope is they also address the retract/hinge issues with the new release as well. Start building the hype! -Zach
@@TailHeavyProductions I commented on a Carbon-Z T-28 video last year about it being discontinued and got a reply from Horizon saying it would be brought back with SMART and some other Upgrades. When that happens, I'll be the first in line to purchase it to go with my Carbon-Z Cub SS and Carbon-Z Cessna 150.
I find it interesting that you say it will never come out again. They recently announced it would be returning with several issues fixed. Clip in wings like the Fw190 and Mustang. All New retract setup with stronger inner wing to support them. New electronics, and lights. Basically they give it a full update and face lift. So yes I guess technically this exact model won't be available but the V2 will be and it's a refined 2.0m T28 with the few flaws updated. Watch for it. Coming soon.
If you guys are going to convert this thing into a bush plane, try not to do so by cutting/hacking/globulating glue - it's irreversible on a precious discontinued plane. I'd remove the retracts and add removable flush covers over the wells and recesses - then add a plate for removable bush gear. That's just what I think, do whatever's the Tail Heavy Productions way.
I have one (Mk1)! I love it, and no flaps for take off! 3300 4S is better than the 2200 mah 3s recommended and needs no mods (i think the v2 is 4s). The hinge thing is totally true, lol. Subscribed
They are supposed to do a updated re-release. As stated by Jason at HH. With that being said my local hobby shop had a new old stock of one of these last yr. I thought about buying it but never did. I should have..
As it stands right now, they are officially discontinued from Horizon. There are rumors it may come back as a SMART equipped bird, but nothing confirmed yet. If you are able to buy one still it would be from their dealers or local hobby shops where they may still have stock left. You scored! We love this plane too! 😁 -Zach
It's true, the originals are rare BUT don't worry, HH will do a re release and bundle it with optional to use but mandatory to buy SAFE garbage and 20 year tech that's "new to you" lets you know how much juice is left in it's overpriced batt packs. Don't worry, all this will be available for probably an additional $200-$300

Horizon hobby is the worst rc company! They release products, rc airplanes, rc cars, rc engines. And our of the lue they discontinued and stop sell even spare parts...
@@TailHeavyProductions no shit I was saying the 1.2m is still avail they are now selling the 2.0m yellow version but Id love to see it again in this paint scheme

Came here to say that! Not spending $600+ though.
What state do you live in? Can we send you one?
Who is “we”?
@@TailHeavyProductions If we was offering me one, I'd give it to you guys. You'd fly it better than I could anyway, lol!

Professional editing and voice overs boys
Its coming back out, hope they fix all the issues with it! I love mine.
We’re excited to see it - but for now, money can’t buy it. 😁

Absolutely wicked filming and flying!

The 1.2 T-28 is just as good! I have both!
Love the review ️Congrats on the 1k. A Bush t 28 sounds like a fun idea. Getter done .
We already posted the bush T-28 video a while back, be sure to take a peek through our videos. 😁
I want to see the bush conversion ... Thumbs up

T-28 bush conversion video is out now!
Very nice content ! I’m now subbed bud’ 👍🏻🤩
Till today just preordered mine

Workin on it right now! -Ben
0:43 😂
I have the 1.2 meter T-28 with retracts and flaps and its very fun to fly
Can you do a UMX Trojan video? It's another plane that HH needs to bring back.
Love Marymoor!
Nice filmwork!
That T-28 is making a come back same plane but gonna have Smart tech

Got a review of the Extra coming at all? Hell, or the crazy V-1200?

So is it still
Coming out?
Still just a rumor! Fingers crossed.

nice video

I really wanted one , but no joy! I’m buying the FMS 1700 Corsair instead!

It just a foam toy toy. Horizon will probably rerelease it with update electronics like they been doing on these discontinued planes
I have one of these still brand new in the box in 2024!!😂😅
New version just came out today!!

Thanks for the sub, Craig! Just to clarify - this is the 2-meter version, not the 1.2 meter. This one runs on a 6s 5000mah pack. -Zach
@@TailHeavyProductions Very nice, I wish I had bought that rather than the Draco, lol. It's nice but no Trojan! TY for the heads up!
I guess I musta had the first one. Mine didn't have retractable landing gear.
here's some appreciation for the joke about xjet's hair 😂

So sad to see that Horizon Hobby discontinues planes and parts so quickly….. sometimes it can be quite annoying….

Re released!
Why they don’t bring this plane back is beyond all of us it would be a sell out.
it's back and yellow
first but im not a fan of the t-28 due to the fact they have made over 6 diffrent t-28s
This video aged QUITE well.
But yellow :/
The T28 1.2M is avail and the very best plane on the market. so its not disco!!!!!👎👎👎👎👎👎
