  • Does low latency ram with very tight timings make enough of a difference to justify the extra outlaty?
    Exact model as on Amazon uk.

    Thanks for making this video. I was specifically looking for this kind of comparison and it was helpful, even though "pushing the entire setup to new heights" may be a little too dramatic for a 0.24% increase. Still, I found it amusing ;)

    Thanks for the video, I think I'll most likely be grabbing the Corsair Vengence LPX 3600 @ CL18. Currently I have the Corsair 2133 MHZ @CL13.. I'm running an i7 8700k so I don't believe it will make that much more of a difference when compared to a RYZEN system, in terms of getting the GSKILL CL16 compared to the Corsair CL18. Hopefully that made sense.. ha

    Thanks for your video. Hope you will continue making many more videos. I'm currently building a gaming/ work pc, and I'm trying to see which ram i should buy, to go with my 5950x (by miracle the online retailer had a few units available, a few days ago, at 4am, and i was able to get it) . I know the ryzen cpus particularly adore the ddr4 3600 modules... but i wanted to find out if lower latency can have a impact, small, on the final performance. And according to your video, some tests have performed around 1% better/ faster with the cl16 over the cl18. Not a big deal, but...
    Many people will argue 'ohhh, 1% faster, what a joke...'... but they tend to forget that, for over 10 years, intel kept their tic toc revisions BS... and very often, people willing to upgrade their cpu, not only three would need to replace their motherboard, because of the new socket, but the new cpu revision would only bring like 3 or 4% extra processing power...so... taking that into account, at the end, 1% isn't a lot.. but still is 1%... so, if people can pay the extra money, why not ?
    Also, maybe the low latency will have an higher impact on the latest zen3 ryzen 5900x and 5950x.
    Anyway, thank you for the video. :)

    @Ricco123tube Dear Ricco, I'm thinking of upgrading from my current VENGEANCE LPX 16gb (2X8GB) 3200MHz, to either "G.SKILL 32GB Ripjaws V DDR4 3600MHz CL16 KIT" or "CRUCIAL 32GB Ballistix DDR4 3600MHz CL16 KIT". My current specs are the following: Ryzen 7 5800x, B450 Aorus Elite from Gigabyte, GTX 1660Ti and a Samsung 970 EVO Plus. I play ArmA 3 most of the time, it eats processors and RAM for breakfast, graphics cards not so much, can you please give an advice on which DDR4 to go for? Kind regards.

    For extra performance you can set your FCLK to 1900 (or 1866 if 1900 is not stable) and then further optimize the ram timings. On B-Die 3800 CL 14-14-14 @1.4V and optimized secondary and tertiary timings should giv you even more performance.

    • @Dazzxp
      @Dazzxp 5 лет назад

      I have not seen anyone have their FCLK 1900 stable i.e pass memory tests maybe tweaking of the SOC voltage and maybe PLL voltages too along with some other things are needed.

    • @anonymouscommentator
      @anonymouscommentator 5 лет назад

      @@Dazzxp im probably really lucky but after a lot of tweaking my R5 3600 finally does 1900 FCLK stable. Not only voltages, but also the ram frequency and timings influence it heavily. And since it is the cheapest of all 3rd gen ryzen products i would assume that some others should be able to do so as well.

    • @Dazzxp
      @Dazzxp 5 лет назад

      @@anonymouscommentator It's possible depending on the motherboard that out of the box it is overvolting which can increase stability i could hit 1900 FCLK games would play without issue but memtest would bring back errors. Then again my board was defective anyway as when i got a second pair of 16GB 3200CL14 errors was popping up all over even at stock JEDC and XMP speeds indicating a tracing fault, the LED didn't work on IO panel either so there may have been multiple issues with that board. I a replacement board now and have trouble in hitting 1900 with 4x sticks of ram and i am limited to 3733MT/s seems i am not the only one but other people hit their limit with 4x sticks at 3600MT/s. Need to know the specific voltages needs to be increased and hopefully can do through Ryzen master as if i change options in the BIOS after setting a overclock in ryzen master results in a no post so memory voltage has to be increased before i use the app otherwise even something like changing the CPU multiplier results in a no post.

    Hey man cool video, just wish you standardized your graphs a bit more, getting down to the 10s in differences is very good for these sort of small comparisons, but then you do a graph where youre comparing 2 graphs on the 1000s and theres barely any difference. Keep up the good work though, I can see you going somewhere with this.

      Yes it is supposed to be misleading in a truthful way. I thought it was me being clever trying to emulate marketing bulshit but I guess it doesn't make sense to most people. The numbers at the bottom of the graph don't start at zero which is deceptive.
      The video is about spending your money more wisely, but if you've already bought the best of the best on everything else then I suppose you could buy this sort of RAM for the tiny extra performance.
      Personally I'd spend extra money on a night out having good food and a few beers. Suffice to say I don't have that RAM anymore.

      The motherboard is the weak point. It may not run the ram at 3600mhz and best check cpu compatibility too. Go to asus support site for reference.

      make sure to check the Motherboard manufacturer's official website, in the support page and look at the compatibility pages. Trust me, I upgraded my motherboard and CPU (only) and when I moved the ram to the new MoBo, it only supported the same ram at 2133MHz (base clock) compared to 3200MHz on the previous build.
      Check the supported CPUs, Memory, amount of PCIe lanes (this matters if you're going to use many slots on MoBo, if you're just going to put in 1 GPU and 1-3 drives you can ignore this), storage (yes this is a thing, especially for very high speed SSDs

If only 1 RUclipsr could actually do a benchmark for Latency VS Mhz that actually had results that mean anything with 32GB of ram. DONT EVEN BOTHER doing a benchmark Ram comparison vid for "Gaming" with a lousy 16GB! Save yourself & anyone that wants to know thew actual difference the time please. What you have to look at is if the motherboard accepts ddr3 ddr2 or ddr4 dram with the newest being ddr4, a motherboard only supports 1 type of ram with it often being ddr4 on new moitherboards and ddr3 on a little bit older ones. And if the motherboard accepts the ram it will be compatible with everything else aswell.

      Intel chips do see a boost but no way near the Levels Ryzen does, because Ryzen has much higher latency due to the way the memory IO controller works and communicates with the CCX's. Depending on memory Ryzen can see upto 21-23% gain in minimum frame rates while on a Intel platform it's around 7%, of course these are only in CPU bound games or graphics on low.
