Yuliya, first - thank you for “sacrificing” an elephant ear so that you can teach us. Please know how much I (and I’m sure many, many others) appreciate your sharing of knowledge, experience and guidance. Second, love, love, love the outtakes! Thanks for keeping it real!! 🪴💚
I’m a new gardener and just loved your important message to not stress, just have fun! One thing for sure - your videos are always fun and have me smiling ☺️
I just dug my EE’s two days ago. I don’t have a basement or room to bring the pots inside so I’m going to try a modified version of your methods. 🤞🏻 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Mojito is one of my favorites! I just love that you confess that you have killed plants (even though you are a landscape designer) and that you show your outtakes and bloopers. Proves you are just like the rest of us gardeners and that you have a great sense of humor. 💚 🍁🍂🤎🧡💛🍂🍁
I grew 3 elephant ears this season bc of your encouragement. Perfect timing btw. I just dug my corms and now I know how to store them. I potted one up for indoors, and the others I'm gonna wrap up. Storing 2 ways to see which has better survival rate. Thanks so much!
Y. You are so funny! Love your section at the end! It’s so real. I talk to myself, too🤣🤣 you are right on time because I dug up my elephant ears about 10 days ago and am letting the corms dry out before I trim the roots. Thanks
Really liked your spreadsheet & your blooper reel They were extremely encouraging, so down to earth, funny, and truly made gardening attainable for anyone. I used to just let my 🐘👂bulbs die in the ground, I will not any longer. Thank You!!
I just rewatched this because I have elephant ears to store this year. You make it look so easy. My basement area is more around 70 degrees so I hope they store ok there. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
Thanks for providing several options for storage. But most importantly, thank you for your “true confession” of how many plants you’ve killed! I loved the scrolling spreadsheet - too funny. And yes, gardening is fun and one, big experiment. Thank you for all you share.
I’m so glad I found your channel, I’m new to elephant ear planting, I started gardening and enjoy doing it. Tho I haven’t really planted a lot yet but already planning on what to plant and how. I was searching for way’s to keep my bulb’s safe I didn’t put all my bulbs in the ground due to wanting to see how one bulb did. I also had a late start, this is why I kept two bulbs lol. I’m so appreciate of your channel I was hoping that I could start growing one inside like house plant. Looking forward to planting more plant’s etc! Thank you for sharing your gardening experience. I’m from saint Joseph Michigan.. Can’t wait for spring time. ❤
Awesome, thanks! I wondered about storing in the pot itself. Especially for the running types it seems so much easier. Great info! Our problem with basement storage is that we use a wood burner, so it gets pretty warm down there.
Thank you! I live in the same zone so I'm getting ready for the big dig. This was very helpful. I will keep my mojito in the house as it's my favorite. Love the bloopers!
I also have a spreadsheet Yuilya with a filter to hide the row each time i mark something in the Dead column. I may comment when they died, why if i think i know. It’s really useful, and humbling. I’ma computer programmer and i consider expertise there and in gardening as the ability to stand on the pile of your failures to make something amazing. Thank you! I come back to you each year to remind myself what i do for my colocasias
I let one go through the first frost and had to cut some mushy stuff off of it. Wrapped it in newspaper and put it in a paper bag. Seemed fine when I planted it the following spring. It didn't come up. I took a shovel and dug it up...just a bunch of dust. It had turned into a ball of powder underneath the ground. I will always dig them up ahead of frosts from now on. P.S. It was only about 4 inches from the surface of the ground.
Thank you ..that was so good and you kept it interesting....When we lived in SLO , CA....we had elephant ears, but cannot have them here because we have deer, otherwise I would have some and try this
Yulia thank you so much for doing another EE video- I have watched all of yours a million times. I successfully grew a few from corms this summer in upstate NY. One is a GIANT Fontanesii in a huge pot with stolons creeping over the edges- and I’m not sure how to handle that…. Also wondering if bulb/ bag storage is okay in the 40 degree range?? Please and thank you! ❤
So why do you wrap the tubers in paper? I would think that putting them in a covered box without wrapping them would provide better air flow and less chance of rotting or disease. Thanks
Спасибо за видео. Недавно переехала во Флориду, имею дом с садом. Совершенно чужой для меня климат, ищу любую информацию о местных растениях и о дизайне сада. Очень жаль, что вы живите в другой зоне. Успехов вам.
Thank you for taking the time and also encouraging us if we make mistakes; kind of you to show you make mistakes too. Yes you give such helpful information. I didn't know you could store them at all. wonder if my elephant ears will be bigger each season ?
I do this and do not water at all during the winter while they are in my basement; I bring them to a brightly lit room in April, and then start watering.
Very beautiful plants. I just tried to grow a Diamond head and Mojito Elephant ear the season that just past. They both was rooten bulbs I purchased. So disappointed. Any tips you can give me. Or sellers you can recommend? I live in zone 7 (PA).
Julia can i let dry the elephant ears "the inside the house variety" they have thick stem, i let them be outdoors whole summer and plant them in bigger and bigger pot now it is one huge plant and cant fit the size inside my house anymore...not sure what to do with it....plz help!!!!
You can store them dormant in pots. Stop watering and let the leaves dry. Keep in a cool, dark and dry place. water once a month just a bit. Wake them up in late February - March with regular watering, bright and warm location
Not related to EE, I planted rhubarb this summer. Lots of big leaves. Should I cut back for winter or let nature take its course. Also read you can eat rhubarb the first year, next summer is ok?
I use to dig mine up and store them in paper bags, but they always just dried up. I grew some this year and plan to try this method. Any idea why the previous ones dried up?
Maybe a cool spot in the house somewhere? I have oria thermometer with three wifi sensors and I check the spots in the house to see where the temps are just right.
I have tried to overwinter the black diamond head by cutting back the foliage after the frost and storing it in the basement. It did not work and the bulbs died. This year I am leaving them in the contained and not disturbing the plant. The larger green elephant ears seem much easier to store by taking out the corm and storing it similar to how you do it. My question is are some elephant ears different, the black diamond head EE's do not seem to have a corm like the larger more common green ones......just wondering why some are so easy to store and others more difficult.
I’m just here for Yuilya”s dead plant spreadsheet. The ultimate exercise in humility with a side of organization.
The truth comes out 😂

Aww! thank you so much! it means so much to me 😊
The bloopers at the end made my day. 😂 “I sound so dumb.” Thanks for keeping it real. Blessings to you. 🌱

landscape professionals kill more plants than anyone else. Then we tell others how not to kill them 😂
Awe your a sweetie, love the bloopers. 🍁🍂🍁💚🙃

Thanks a lot for brief description about its storage in off season.

Thanks! I'm just north of you in Southeast NY and have done this before but needed a refresher!
Love your videos. Your timing was perfect - just dug my 1 yr old elephant ears - it had a baby! And now I know how to store it 😀
Glad I could help!
Frost tonight! I will be wintering my plants following your example. Thank you so much!

Never thought to just bring it in as a houseplant. Thank you!
Just love Yulia and Y Garden! Thank you so much for your informative and encouraging videos. ❤
So glad!

Thoroughly enjoyed this and I don’t even have any elephant ears! Hope you do caladiums next.
Thank you! 😊
Haha love the outtakes at the end 🤣
Loved your list of “dead”!!!!! Me too!
Love your videos especially the ending. I also needed a elephant ear refresher in the process of storing (Minnesota 4b)
Thanks Yulia! Awesome, as always.
Thank you so much for the information! Now I just have to grow one so that I can use it. Love the outtakes! You made me laugh.
I love the outtakes! 😂
I just love your educational videos. You're great to watch. Thanks
Thank you!
Thank you! I live in the same zone so I'm getting ready for the big dig. This was very helpful. I will keep my mojito in the house as it's my favorite. Love the bloopers!
Юлечка, с днём рождения! Здоровья, радости, удачи, всех благ земных, люблю, целую, твоя тётушка 😁
Спасибо Тетя Таня!! 🥰🥰🥰
Love it !!! "Don't have analysis paralysis " 😁
I make elephant ear cement bird baths and bird feeders to give as gifts. So easy and useful.
I want to do this! I love them. Is it hard to do?
Thank you so much for your video. You did an amazing job. I love your bloopers at the end. Much appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Loved this video! Thanks for having such a great attitude and transferring it to us….or at least trying! Your amazing!

Thank you!
Welcome!
"I'm exhausted" 🤣 same girl. Same.

Piękne kolory liści👌😍🤗
Btw what variety was that massive one you demoed?
Colocasia esculenta
Great video ,do you do the coffee cups the same way
4:27 elephant ears, i wish to dry them out in the pot and keep them indoor in darker room but heated about 6os F how often should i water it then?
I do this and do not water at all during the winter while they are in my basement; I bring them to a brightly lit room in April, and then start watering.
Probably once a month. It can get pretty dry without damaging the plant
🌱SO HELPFUL‼️🌱

O no! I saw eden brothers had some Mojitos
@@ydoyougarden ok I will try them. Thank you.🤗🌱❤

remove the leaves and stalks after it gets hit by frost. The common practice is to skip the first year so the plant bulks up.
Do you ever plant some in a pot inside? Can you "store " them like that in the winter, or do they struggle with the change?
thank you so very much
i learned a lot from watching your video
Glad it was helpful!
Ok we need details on that spreadsheet 😂
One day, one day 😂
What is that beautiful blue flower in front of the elephant ears?????
Browalia americana
Thank you
I use to dig mine up and store them in paper bags, but they always just dried up. I grew some this year and plan to try this method. Any idea why the previous ones dried up?
Do you bury the corn all the way with the stump buried as well or does the stump shows above the ground?
Thanks Yulia, if my basement is too warm and my garage is too cold (I heated) is there another option?
Not-heated
Maybe a cool spot in the house somewhere? I have oria thermometer with three wifi sensors and I check the spots in the house to see where the temps are just right.

Yes, the bigger the corm the more energy it has. You are doing the right think by storing the black diamond in a pot
Thank you!
I'm learning
Can I store these in paper grocery bags?
Yes
I let my tubers dry out for a month will that be a Problem?
No, should be a problem
@@ydoyougarden Should be or shouldn't be a problem?
Ok. Folha grande..
😻😂👍🏼🙏
Great video! Thank you!
Do you bury the corn all the way covering the stump as well or do you leave the stump showing above the ground?
