@Mario. Hi Mario, I heard from a couple from Vila do Conde that some of the nicest people in Portugal live in Vila do Condo. Is that true? I stayed in the fishing village of Lavra for one week in 2018. It was so nice and the seafood so fresh and inexpensive. It was a dream but not sure if I could live in such a small village. At least it is a part of Porto and Vila do Conde greater area.

Hey Tourabunga, thanks for the comment and letting us know you've been enjoying it. June 1 will be here before you know it! Reach out at expatseverywhere@gmail.com if you need anything and we'll try to help. To answer your question, yes, we've thought about it. We aren't 100% sure what the cost benefit is because really at the end of the day, we're expats that tend to move every few years so we're not sure what would happen to the channel once we moved. Also, starting a new channel from scratch is difficult and we're not that big on ExpatsEverywhere to have a substantial carryover, what do you think? There's a decent amount of fear in the unknown of that. The ethos behind ExpatsEverywhere is be a 1stop shop for expat information from interviews of people living in that country/city to city guides on moving, living, and working in a city so that people can be filled with confidence that it's possible. Our big aim is to be the #1 channel for expatlife/living abroad. Is it a huge goal? Absolutely. :-) But we like to dream big! We'd love to hear your feedback on the benefit of us starting a new channel. :-) Truly, thank you for the comment and support. - Josh & Kalie

Great to see you settling in. The weather is getting colder and rainer, but also thats has a charm. Stay safe (masks obligatory on the street starting tomorrow!) .
Hi, Humberto! Thank you so much. It is definitely getting colder and rainier. We just talked about that on a video that we'll hopefully get out next week. Charlene, you're such a blessing! Thanks for the support. You've with us since day 1 on this journey and we can't thank you enough. To be honest, this spot is ridiculously good for our lifestyle and desires. Very informative, thank you! I recently signed my 6 month lease in Porto to qualify for my D7 visa also. Forgive me if you already stated this somewhere but what does that include? Wifi and utilities? Housekeeper? Or you need to set that stuff up yourself? Thanks again and see you around Porto when I arrive (visa gods willing) in mid December!
Thank you and congratulations to you! Our place includes wifi and a basic TV package that we hardly use. Housekeeper can be found for €6-10/hr depending. For example, our place is pretty small right and for a 90 minute cleaning, which hits the highlights costs €16 to help cover transport time and costs. Keep us posted on your movements - Josh & Kalie ☺️

What a great view you have! Nice video. Congrats. This maybe is explained in another video -- but why did you choose Porto? We have put Vigo Spain on our list of possible places to retire. Did you consider Vigo?
Hi Thomas, you're right about that view! Thank you. We explained it a bit in the live Q & A video that we did (that session was a lot of fun with people btw). We didn't consider Vigo, no. We've been there though. Vigo is a much slower paced life and certainly much less of a city than Porto. We really wanted the city vibes that we have here. The people are lovely too. Not sure which visa you're going for in Spain, but our visa for Portugal looked more straightforward as well, which made Portugal over Spain easy + we have already lived in Madrid, Spain. Thanks for the question. We could probably go on about this topic, but that kind of hits the highlights for Porto over Vigo. All the best with your decision and please stay in touch and let us know what you choose. - Josh & Kalie

The appartment looked great, welcome to Porto. Remember we are heading into Winter and Porto is not the best place to be in on Winter, get some nice coats, heater, etc.... Also remember we are in COVID time and you might feel more "lonely" since people are stuck at home and even when you out and about people will keep their distance. I love that you moved to Portugal but the time is not the best since "winter is coming" and COVID and I dont want you to feel like you are "outcasted" from our society. Love your channel, and I recommend you to visit some restaurants to see how you like more traditional food (careful since Porto is touristy, check with locals to see options). :)
Thank you, Ivo. You've been with us during this journey and we appreciate the love and support. We're pretty prepared for winter but we'll certainly take your advice to heart. We've certainly mixed it up a bit with foreign food and local food. We haven't done any "bacalhau" but to be honest we have tried several dishes on our visits here in the past. We also haven't had a "francesinha" yet either, but we'll get around to it. Last time we were in Porto, we had 3 in a week. LOL Again, thanks for the love! - Josh & Kalie
Hi L H, is this your first time commenting? Haven't see you on here, but thank you so much for subscribing and being bold enough to do it publicly! Thanks for the support. You're very welcome. Our neighborhood is Bolhão. We're a couple minute walk from Bolhão Station, Aliados Station, and then a little further is Trinidade Station. More to come regarding this though. :-) - Josh & Kalie
Truth...basically never anymore for short distances But let's say we're going to IKEA, which is just outside of Porto, we would take the base and seat. Cia's getting big though! Some drivers will refuse the ride but that's only happened once where we were completely refused. Generally, there's a little back and forth discussion and then they take us. We don't love doing it and wouldn't do it longer distances or on the highway. We've only been in a car here less than a dozen times though. We generally walk. Thanks for the question. - Josh & Kalie
You are a lovely couple, I know Porto is beautiful but did visit Madeira iland, one of the ilands of Portugal, is a peaceful iland if people are nice and friendly in Portugal in Madeira there are much more. the weather is better all year, save place for your daughter to live and has so many options to rent or buy a house or a apartment. The food is amazing and the city Funchal is a city that has all and the food is amazing. And is close to Portugal so you can visit the main land . The mountains are beautiful, the air is so amazing and very healthy. This iland in the 1800 was a place for healing depression and respiratory problems and for people with cancer also a place that prolong their lives because of the air, the health food and the land . The smell is so amazing. That’s why they call the pearl of Atlantic and there their are so much to do as videos. Give a chance to live in a better place with a better quality of live.
Nice, glad to help in that way. Honestly, because we're in the city center, things are a bit smaller and definitely more expensive. Really, filter the size of the space as well and not just the bedrooms. We think this place was listed as 65 m2, which for us is fine because we lived in a 38 m2 space in Singapore before our daughter was born. - Josh & Kalie
We do. There's a unit in the living room, and both bedrooms. We run the one at night for the little one, but other than that, we don't really use the one in our bedroom or the living room. - Josh & Kalie
Thank you for sharing the tour of the apartment. My husband and I are looking to become expats in Porto in the next 12 months. We have done a great deal of research, and Porto seems like the right fit for us. We will be retired so will not need jobs. A couple of quick and maybe silly questions: What does 900 Euros translate into as US dollars? What is the square footage of your apartment? It seems similar to what we would like to find. We especially like the balcony as we use our porch here in Savannah, GA, all the time. Thank you for sharing your story; we are gaining valuable info from you two. We subscribed today!
Hey Caleb. Thanks for writing. If you start from the very beginning and work your way through to now, you’re literally going to see our process over the past few months. 900 euros is around 1050 depending of the exchange rate as it fluctuates a little week to week. Porto is definitely cooler than Savannah so porch sitting year round probably won’t happen. Also, late fall to winter it’s rainy. I’d have to check the exact square footage but it’s around 600-700. We’re used to smaller place because our place in Singapore was under 400 square feet. Thanks for subscribing and following our journey here. Let us know if you need anything else. - Josh & Kalie
Hi, welcome. My opinion as resident, is a little bit overpriced, even though is central +furniture and a T2 (T2 = 2 bedrooms). And ok, is instagramable. Watching what you shown it has low livable square meters and probably the energetic rating is low, lack of double windows and probably in an old building, before 2000 constuction (just watching the surroundings). Also considering the cost of living here, that is almost 2 Portuguese minimum salaries of rent. The energetic rating of a building is quite important in Portugal, as it also measures how good the house retains comfortable temperature indoors with low energetic consumption (no need to electric heaters). The best rating is +A and lowest F. So heads up to any expats, when choosing a place.
We’re working with a few realtors and PMs to go into different places and show those types of things to our audience. Thanks for your input. - Josh & Kalie
Your view is insane! That's worth the money! Let me know if you want to show some artist loft space, warehouses, or places I could put an art studio. I will hook you up with some Art when I move over! You baby is adorable! Congratulations to both of you...I can tell she is one loved, and happy baby!
Our view is really inspirational. We don't get tired of it. Even on rainy days it's nice to look out onto this awesome city. We'll ask a realtor friend if we can get into any spaces like that. There are a ton of abandoned places. Are you looking at buying? BTW-A few days ago we went into a gallery to check out an exhibition. Valencia is very loved for sure and she rarely stops smiling. We just have to keep her feed and she'll keep smiling. - Josh & Kalie
We didn't get the Liiiving package where utilities are included so in 2 weeks or so, we should "get the bill" from them. We're hoping it's not too much. We're paying €900 per month for a furnished T2 apartment without utilities, €500 is the apartment, €100 furniture, €300 that view/location, €0 all that construction noise. :-) LOL - Josh & Kalie
Thank you and thanks for the question. Yes, it came completely furnished. We did make an IKEA run because...well...Kalie...but anything of any substantial size was provided. I need a good chef's knife and stuff for coffee. We also picked up some better towels, and a few things for the baby. We show that trip to IKEA in a coming video. :-) - Josh & Kalie

Hi Gwynn, yes that sounds about right obviously our current life is pegged to the Euro so it's the dollar that fluctuates. We're making USD so our "income" kind of changes every month. Yes, it's a bit high for sure. It should probably be closer to €750-825, however, the location in the city is ridiculously good. Our last transfer from the US to pay the rent was $1053. It is fully furnished but without utilities. We'll see what those are like in 2 weeks. From what we're hearing though, we're paying a fair price especially considering that this is a mid-term rental (6 months). We might down grade in 6 months but we'll definitely shop around.

The one challenge is there are stairs before the elevator starts and that means we have to have a lot of forethought before heading out with the baby and intending to get groceries, let's say. - Josh & Kalie
Thank you for sharing this, and all of the other information in your videos. Which neighborhood is your apartment in? We're in the early stages of planning our spring 2022 relocation to Portugal. Like you we'll start in Porto, which we absolutely loved on our last trip to Portugal.

What a cute baby. I’m enjoying your channel. Hope to get to Porto soon.

Congrats to you both! Porto is fantastic. What camera did you use to record this?
Hey, Pete! Thank you. We love Porto and it's a dream move for us. We needed the practice with our Joby gimbal so we used an iPhone to shoot this. As you can tell with some of the camera movements (& maybe color and saturation), it's not perfect but it was a good video for us to learn on. Thanks for the comment. - Josh & Kalie

@@ExpatsEverywhere Thanks!
LOL

Awesome apartment! I'm a fatty, so that fridge wouldnt work for me lol.
Kalie: if the rental allows it, I'll mount the TV for you guys! 🤪
How often do you use the car seat in Portugal? In Uber, taxis?

Thanks, Elizabete. We appreciate it. We hope to visit Madeira when possible. We do love Porto though. - Josh & Kalie
Loved getting to see the apartment. My wife and I watched and we were like "Yeah, we'll need a T3 or T4 to fit us all"
Nice, glad to help in that way.
@@ExpatsEverywhere I'm looking forward to learning more about the areas in Porto as you are safely able to travel around.
Do you have ac/heat? I didnt see a unit> Thanks
You are living in the downtown of the city best place ever
Not so bad.
Nice size apt. What floor are you on? Plus your babies smile 😊 is everything 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰..
Thank you! 🤗We're on the top floor. 😅 - Josh & Kalie
For 900 euros month, its easier to buy the house an ask a bank for a loan, it woukd be way cheaper.
One more question, if I may: What utilities are included in your rent?
We didn't get the Liiiving package where utilities are included so in 2 weeks or so, we should "get the bill" from them. We're hoping it's not too much. We're paying €900 per month for a furnished T2 apartment without utilities, €500 is the apartment, €100 furniture, €300 that view/location, €0 all that construction noise. :-) LOL - Josh & Kalie
Nice place! Did it come furnished?
Thank you and thanks for the question. Yes, it came completely furnished. We did make an IKEA run because...well...Kalie...but anything of any substantial size was provided. I need a good chef's knife and stuff for coffee. We also picked up some better towels, and a few things for the baby. We show that trip to IKEA in a coming video. :-) - Josh & Kalie

I am a bit surprised on your rent price. Conversion puts it a $1100. USD, I hope it is fully furnished with utilities included.
Yes, it's a bit high for sure. It should probably be closer to €750-825, however, the location in the city is ridiculously good. Our last transfer from the US to pay the rent was $1053. It is fully furnished but without utilities. We'll see what those are like in 2 weeks.
