- Makita djv180z Jigsaw Comparison to Festool and Bosch 1587. Its amazing the results I find. I really think Festool needs to go back to the drawing boards on this one. The good old Bosch is on the other hand a fantastic Jigsaw. Its an amazing tool. The new Makita makes a very good first impression. Ive been using it for about a year now and its absolutely awesome. All except the dust port that is not strong. Please comment and subscribe and like the video. Thank you.

You can shut off the soft start on the brushless Makita. You just set the speed to six, turn the power on, the light flashes. Dial the speed to one, then back to six, the light turns on again. The soft start is disabled and will stay that way until you repeat the process if you wish to enable the soft start again. I was using the 180 and upgraded to the 182 I find it a much better tool.
Thanks for the feedback. Thank you for watching.
@YZ I know a lot of people don't like the soft start, I just wanted everyone to know it could be switched off. No reviewers seem to know. I bought mine because it was a bargain on Amazon for £135. I didn't need it yet, but I'll have it when I do.
@YZ glad you found it useful. I just wanted people to see the tools side by side and with some common uses how they compare. A tool being brushed or brushless to me isn’t anything. If I don’t like the way it operates or feels as I use it for scribing mostly. The jigsaw is my main scribing tool, as you’ll see if you watch the video of the mantle install or the entertainment center install at the end. They are so import to my business. Along with my porter cable belt sander.
@YZ hi there. No it didn’t. I appreciate you asking but no. I’ve got several from others I’ve purchased before, and never used them. But I think they could be useful if you were cutting a lot of straight parts out.
Read the Manual people! Seriously! Thanks for posting this!
Very interesting video and as a result I will buy the Makita. The added bonus with this video was that you compared it with the Festool which I also own. I have NEVER liked it but persisted believing initially that I just needed to get used to it particularly because as it was the only barrel grip saw I had ever used. But I’m going to get rid of it now. Thanks for the excellent video.
So glad to have helped you make your decision. And thank you very much for taking the time to write a nice comment. That means a lot.
The light comes on for a second 🤣 lmao. That was great!
Thank you. Glad you liked it
I was gifted one yesterday but the older one i guess where you have to use a screw driver to unlock the blade. Its been used well but seems very strong.
Similar to you I sold my Festool Trion jigsaw - hated it. I own the same Makita DJV180 and have really enjoyed it. But like you I found a few quirks. Still my most used jigsaw is my corded Porter Cable 7458. It's such a nice saw, like your Bosch. Even with a cord I still prefer it to any other jigsaw I've tried.
Thanks for the great review!
Thanks a lot for the great comments. I am glad you found that video. It’s really sweet to have a nice tool that you can count on day in and day out. Sounds like your porter cable is that tool for you. I just used my Bosch for something that had to be cut so precisely and the makita isn’t quite there. It’s close but I find the Bosch is better at deep cuts and plum square cuts. Also easier to see the blade on Bosch. But for most jobs, the cordless makita is very good. Battery lasts okay as well.
I was happy to find your comparison of the 3 jigsaws. I thought I was the only one that didn't like the Festool. Everything else I own from them has been great. Yes the Makita is great, and so convenient to use. I just feel more comfortable with the old Porter Cable for accuracy. The blade is supported better.
@@bonedaddy33 agreed. You’re right. I think the festool jigsaw is overrated. Especially the one I had. That thing was terrible. So gll lol and I sold it and the guy who bought it new it wasn’t working and he didn’t care. He still bought it because it was festool. Funny.
Was going to buy the festool to replace my terrible Milwaukee M18FBJS. So now im stuck as to what to buy! Has to be cordless for me. I cut a-lot of laminated material kitchen fitting and the Milwaukee with no oscillation and a downward cutting blade cuts terrible.
Good video saved me a few £££
I am so confident with my original Bosch, but not cordless. Makita is very good and dust collection is really great with the added port. Saws are only as good as their blades. So get the best blades for the job.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore
Yes my friend uses the Makita and it out performs my Milwankee by a mile!
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore
Ps i use bosch blades ha
@@dudbolt9707 go grab some of the blades I use. There amazing. 308b blades. Lowe’s has them for 12 bucks I think.
You only need to get about two clicks on the Bosch blade change! You will wear out your mechanism! I’ve used a bunch of these Bosch saws for over 20 years! My old 1587 is still going strong after 20 years! It’s starting to show its age though! The blade change ( Bosch ) is more convenient, but more fiddly compared to the previous screwdriver method. It was a hassle having to carry around that long skinny screwdriver to change blades. Tip: use the down cutting blades for melamine/ laminate! Peace!
Thank you
12:40 sounds like the espresso machine at my local coffee shop. I want a latte after watching this 👍. I have the newer Bosch 47 version. Love it.
Is that Bosch 47 version cordless?
Have you looked into sending in the Carvex for servicing at Festool?
We had one weird cabinet where, we had to cut out a service junction box in the back. Using a fein multitool on Melamine board is not fun. Wears out the blade ($7) so quickly and burns the melamine, plus the dust!! I measured it wrong and was off by 1/2 inch, but luckily found a double blank plate to cover up my mistake with the junction box. That was a nightmare kitchen since all the outlets had to moved to adjust to the cabinet widths and up to code with counter height... I have never cut so many patch pieces of sheet rock for one wall in my life.
Jigsaw is most useful for installing pergo flooring too, especially when their is baseboard heating pipes running out of the floor :(
Hey readyset Thanks for watching video. You know I did call festool and they said it was out of warranty regardless. The saw wasn’t as good as my Bosch so really it didn’t matter at all. I was going to stop using it. It’s just I didn’t know if I could sell it broken. However the guy who bought it said he likes to fix things. So he Was very excited to get it. Sold it for $250. Seems good to me. Used half that for the new makita. Yes your totally right about jigsaws. One one the most under appreciated tools in the marketplace. I think it’s one of my most useful ones. My fein multi master is awesome also. However I’ve gone cordless with that too. Dewalt though. It’s okay. Not like the fein for sure. But cordless.
Sounds like you’ve had some great experiences in the trade. That’s great. It’s neat to hear the stories from trades people. Thank you for taking the time.
I love Festool, but this is their most disappointing tool, by a long way. Using a jigsaw a lot, like you do, you could consider the Mafell P1. It's a massive amount of coin, but it is one seriously impressive tool. I have one and wouldn't be without it - until their cordless version comes out.
I agree totally. Festool missed on this tool. I’ve heard that Mafell p1 jigsaws are amazing. I looked into getting one but seemed more than I wanted as mine do very well for my tasks. Scribing and rough cutting. I don’t use them for finesse projects. I think if I did use them in that way, I’d buy one. For sure. Hard to find out here though. Only available online I believe. And never any used ones. I have looked. Thanks Lincoln for commenting. I appreciate it.
Your blade guides on the Festool aren't set. And if you use the hated splinter guard you'll get splinter free cuts.
The Festool takes a bit of knowledge, when you have that, it's the best.
Ryan thank you for watching and letting me know your thoughts. I wish this was the case. Unfortunately it’s not. Blade guides cause the blades to heat up so much I had to back them off and try to find a good medium point. Unfortunately there isn’t a good enough point at which my carvex worked. I had it for a two years and tried to use it on many jobs. The tool was terrible. Splinter guard was useless. It’s not a good tool. I’d think it was just mine but festool owners Forums prove otherwise. Im guessing you have one and like it. Does yours turn on correctly too? Cause mine didn’t. As you saw. Lol. But I’m glad you found yours great. That’s what matters.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmoreif you've had it two years it's under warranty. Festool will replace/repair. Of course there are complaints on forums, some are actually due to the tool being a dud. What about the million others sold?
I still maintain, set the Festool up correctly, use the splinter guard, its the best cut I've found. Over tighten the guides, wearing them out, setting them becomes difficult. A tool not turning on is a warranty issue that would be fixed without hassle. Get the Festool fixed, watch how to set it up correctly, and try this test again. At the moment the Festool may as well be a potato for the purpose of this video.
@@Sisu2280 this tool was bought used. Unfortunately no warranty. They wouldn’t even give me an idea on cost to fix. But like I said, it’s not the tool for me. I think you had different results from yours it sounds like. So that’s good. But honestly, the Bosch blows it away even if the saw worked. Even the dust collection shroud is a major pain to use and see the cut line on the festool. And if you don’t use a vac, the area gets so clogged with chips, as the festool doesn’t have a blower, it’s terrible. My carvex had so much vibration, it would cause the dust cover to always fall down. Making it very annoying to see cut line well. Like i said, this poor design at its best lacks functionality. Bosch 1587 just is in another league. Makita too. But not as much. Just cordless. Have you ever used a Bosch 1587?
Yes, this is probably the cause of the blade vibration. On Festool jigsaws those guides need to be set accordingly to every blade width.
I know this is a 2yr old video, but in regards to the festool carver are you adjusting the guide blocks against the blade like h would a bandsaw? That would eliminate your wobble.
Hi there. Yes in fact the blade was burning because it’s too much friction in the festool. The other saws there isn’t any wobble or burning of the blade as it goes up and down. So glad I got rid of the carvex. It wasn’t a good tool.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore
I have had a couple of Bosch jigsaws for 30 yrs…they no longer cut square, no matter what I have tried. I am looking for a new one and was looking seriously at the festool. I have a few of their other tools and like them.
Now I guess I’ll keep looking…maybe at the Makita…or the mayfell.
@@williamfitzer4805 if you want the best the mayfell will be it. From what I’ve read and heard. They are terrific. But the Bosch is very close at a fraction of the cost. But it sounds like you’re not having good luck with yours nowadays. That’s very strange. I wonder what could be causing that problem. Is it a 1587? If the blades aren’t good they tend to wander quickly. I’m sure you know that though.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore I’m not in the shop right now, so I couldn’t tell u the model. The Bosch saws were good in plywood or 3/4” material, but now I work mostly in thicker stock and it just cut square. I tried everything I know, and I change blades frequently…never have tried to stretch their life. I figure they are just worn out.
Is it fair to compare a corded tool with a cordless tool
Thanks for watching and commenting Phillip. I appreciate it. It’s more of a comparison between tool features and qualities not power. However power isn’t much different. Unless you’re running it for a long time, the batteries last a while. And I think it’s good to know what each tool is able to deliver to you. Regardless of being cordless or corded.
I think I may be in The minority in loving my Bosch 572E (especially the Swiss factory made) thinking it is a “better” saw than it’s predecessor you have there which is a legend!
Bosch makes nice jigsaws for sure. Glad to hear you like yours.
From 1:05-1:30 you got a 👍 from me as you obviously know of what you speak! Lol thanks!
Thanks.
Once you go cordless you never go back to a cord
Hey thanks for watching the video and commenting. I really appreciate it. You are right. Cordless is awesome. For sure. Especially with these tools. I love them. Are there any other videos you’d like to see?
Except dust extraction. They haven't figured that out yet.
When operating the blade (or any adjustments) take the battery out/unplug.And please don’t give me the “expert” BS ... Otherwise, good info.
👍
Adrian that’s probably a good idea. Thanks.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore that was a fast reply 😂😂 let me finish the video at least
@@adrianmarin5101 happened to me near my phone. Funny. Didn’t see the edited comment until just now. Hope you enjoyed it.
Please turn off loud tools while you are explaining things?
Funny you mention that. My carvex was broken. If I shut it off, it wouldn’t start back up. As I mentioned in the video. That’s why I didn’t shut it off. Lol.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore didnt catch that, because the carvex was too loud. Lol
@@niels1497 I’m really glad to have that saw out of my life. Seriously. Very bad.
