Check out "Epilogue For Lisa" to see Shawn's ability to melt hearts. Slow, beautiful, melodic phrasing.

My personal favorite is Get You Back live. Some of the most beautiful phrasing in the first half followed by a more melodic shredfest in the second half

Shawn’s music transcends reality. Edgar Cayce talked about the Akashic Records, the Hebrews talked about the source in Kabbalah, in esoteric circles the Halls of Amenti are referenced as containing all of the knowledge held within perceivable reality.
Shawn had access to that, as have many other beautiful, unique souls.

Shawn could make a guitar sound like soft and safe clouds or like blood red razors, music was fully realized when he was born

I think you would also enjoy the song Gray Pianos Flying by Shawn.

I was friends with Shawn for a number of years. To me, the first time I saw him live, he was the GOAT. There are a lot of great videos out there of him doing more than just shredding. This is a great one - ruclips.net/video/mYNATyLr9vs/видео.html

I guess you're not ready for that yet... but your kids are gonna love it!
I think the outside shredfest at the end with Rickman was meant to be pretty much freeform ripping for both of those guys. And, you have to play guitar AND have ears for sicko, outside playing to fully appreciate what Shawn is going for. The studio version of this song doesn't include that part. Shawn has a few songs where he showcases top-notch phrasing and melody from beginning to end without stepping outside too much. Get You Back might be his best.

Ok, I'm going to comment before listening to what you think of this.
When it started...I had high hopes. It was quite melodic and I could see that he obviously has all the tricks up his sleeve. Heavily effects soaked guitar (nothing particularly wrong with that) and some nice little touches.
However, after the little drum solo, we were back to the fast meaningless, not melodic runs up and down the fretboard. That is a shame. Is he a good guitarist....yes without a doubt.
Is he as good as say Gary Moore? Sorry, but nowhere near it!
I'm going to have to repeat myself again....this is my opinion, other people's may differ.
Cheers and regards from across the pond.

I'd recommend checking out the album version of this! The original Powers of Ten album is on youtube and there's some interesting material on there, several songs relying on slower melodies. The album begins with this tune. Personally I find the ultra fast shredding and atonal parts fun to listen to as a digression, especially on a live recording, but I get why some would be more into the composed parts
