  • Mitch Marner has made it known that he wants to be a member of the Maple Leafs for a long time and will be eligible for an extension on July 1. Should the team be exploring that as an option? Should the Core Four be given another chance? TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron and OverDrive host Bryan Hayes chime in.

(that is a coaching issue) he has not been able to get this team to play proper defense the entire time he has been here.. That difference, could have gotten us one or two more games before our back was to the wall.. This is a FACT...... 2, Our Powerplay.. Not adjusting our powerplay to an entirely new zone entry and attack is again ( COACHING )... This team should have raced to the blue line with speed and chased a dump in,,,, then force point shots while crashing the net... They failed to adjust and we missed out on maybe, 15 more goals which would have ended this series... In Everything other area, the Leafs matched or exceeded Bruins play... How do we know this --we went to game Seven OT...

Better coaching might seriously improve his game. That should be the Leafs #1 priority. That move should have been made at least 2 seasons ago. Someone that will end the country club atmosphere. A coach that’s won in the NHL. As John Cooper the Tampa coach said he’d take Marner in a heart beat on his team. And then getting a resilient, reliable & durable #1 goaltender. This tandem too injury prone & give up way too many soft goals.

The only reason I don’t think I’d resign him is he’s going to be getting 11+. If they really want to change this core they need to stop overpaying for unproven playoff talent. Now, if he were to take 9m then Tavares off the books after a year. Maybe.

Him backchecking doesn't do a thing on that play. If you want to blame it on him, blame him not getting a small piece of Pasta to slow him down, which is his only requirement on that play. That goals on Rielly and Sammy more than him.
Not saying he wasn't almost invisible all series, just saying from an X's and O's perspective, you're wrong on that play.

@KS-xk2so Respectfully disagree. Marner is 100% aware of where Pasta is as he jumps over the boards. He sees Pasta get behind him and does nothing. He's just watching Lindholm. Yes, Reilly was caught flat footed, and he should've recognized this wasn't just a dump in. But if Marner turns on the jets to man mark Pasta, he never has enough time and space to make that perfect deke on his backhand. Samsonov also needs to be more aggressive there. You can't allow Pasta to go cross crease in the paint like that.

Of course you can get guys to agree by sitting them making them waste a year of their career but the fact is, they still have leverage where to go along with their new team. The best they can hope for is like a late 1st rounder with a mid level player imo but that's better then nothing.
