Until fans boycott games and stop paying extortion prices to watch games, this will never change. Boycotts work, when you hit their bottom line, they are forced to listen to the fans. I’m a die hard Leafs fan for decades, stopped going to games and buying merchandise, saving money and time on useless games that in the long run make money for everyone else except me. Especially for a product that isn’t worth it.

Buy Mitch and Tavares out and move on - if they won’t wave.
They each have 1 year to go. Both of them get giant bonuses on July 1st - then their salaries are cheap. Tavares would cost $303,333 this year and next, while Marner would cost $258,333 this year and next. you'd actually save a little less than a million bucks next year.
You’re stuck with their cap hits next year no matter what. But you’d be able to go and get two better contributors and test them in big roles by spending Brodie & Samsonov money to pay them - then the following year, you’d have almost $25M in cap space to continue the progress they’d move on with next year.
I’d rather pay them all the money now and be able to move forward and find better, long term solutions starting next season - rip the expensive bandaids off ASAP - if you don’t expect either one to be on the team in 2026

How you should really look at the playoff losses, since the hope and expectation is the Stanley cup, is that every round you dont win is a loss. This includes the rounds after the 1st round. If the expectation was that you would win 4 rounds and you dont win any, then you've lost 4 rounds. That brings their record to 1/33 in 8 years with the Columbus loss.

I believe, the coaching change will be the only thing the MLSE will do in the off season when it comes to the Leafs. As JD said more and more fans are checking out, because they are disgusted, but there is still enough those, who will fall for `let's run it back one more time` plan and the owners know that. They know, that the team will make them tons of money no matter what so they have no reason to change anything. That is the main reason why we are where we are - it's our fault, because we allowed this to happen. Something like this is impossible in the Europe. The fans, especially a soccer fans, would never allow the owners and the management to be so careless and the players so arrogant. That's why they don`t that down there, because they simply know, that there would be consequences. You don't do your job as a manager or as a player and you're gonna hear it from the fans - that's how they do it there. They would never tolerate the Leafs something like this. Never! They would first of all stop attending the games. Unfortunately, that won't happen in Toronto anytime soon, maybe never. But what I believe is going to happen soon (if they keep doing business this way) is, that the Leafs will start losing fans, because nobody wants to be associated with notorious losers.
One more thing, that I've been thinking about for quite some time. I would expect former Maple Leafs stars like Clark, Mahovlich or Sittler to express their opinion about the Toronto Maple Leafs and the way they have been doing their business last two decades.. But they are apparently afraid of the consequences. Looks like all that courage they had on the ice when they played for the Leafs has disappeared. And that's very disappointing, because they could (and should) help. But they apparently don't care anymore.

    • @Tiglath-PileserXIX

Daryl in 1977/78 (semifinals against the Montreal Canadiens) and Wendel in 1992/93 (Conference final against the LA Kings) and in 1993/94 (Conference final against the Vancouver Canucks). JD, great show as always. James is always a great guest too...As I'm sitting here amazed that the Leafs weren't eliminated in 5 games, I'm thinking they're going to do absolutely nothing at Friday's presser other than possibly get rid of Keefe (and I have my doubts about that).
The reason I say this is because the precedent has already been set by the Toronto Blue Jays last year. They piddled through last season letting the children run the asylum. Then they perform the cu**ter**ck of the decade and pull a pitcher that was throwing fire early in the last game of their season. What did they do after that nightmare? Pretty much nothing. And guess what? Everybody's back to watch the Blue Jays with nary a word being said.
Back to the Leafs...A good percentage of Leafs's's's (sorry, didn't know when to stop) season's tickets are held by corporations, so they're not going away, and the rest of us will gladly line up to overpay to see one or possibly two games a year, because that's all we can afford (are the beers over $20 apiece yet?).
If they do anything, some of the lower level people may go, but I think the "shittaplan" maybe around for another year...

Everybody trashing Marner like he's beer league level and want to trade him at his lowest value. Marner didn't play all 60mins of every game. Lots of blame to go around. If Marner waives his NMC leafs will have almost zero leverage negotiating a trade. Dubas painted the Leafs in this corner and they're stuck with Marner for his last year. More likely he walks in free agency, why would he help the Leafs aside from getting the extra year in a sign and trade?

Everyone has a platform to talk but nothing comes out but noise. You dont see the good things that happened without a consistent lineup due to the injuries and illness and they were able to go to game 7. I think you guys need to chill. I think if things need to change its in the old defensive players like Gio and Broady. Get rid of Reilly and and Lilligren. Bring in Chychrun. The formula here and no one is talking about is put the core 4 in different lines. It doesnt help that the Leafs were in the dark with these illness and injury thats what pisses people off. Its unfortunate.

None of these guys in this core have ever had a leader to learn from. Look at Boston. Any new player came in had Bergeron and chara to learn how to play the right way. He’s being absolutely crucified but who’s actually stepped up. Matthews ? Reg season stats that’s it. What he done to elevate his team last a round. Nothing. No one is any better than the next guy on that team

LOL, the Midwest getting overlooked as usual. You talk about big, impactful trades over the past five years and somehow overlook the Blues acquiring Ryan O'Reilly from the Sabres? He won the Selke, Conn Smythe and Cup all in the same year! Also, former Leafs who would go on to win elsewhere; Alexander Steen, Carl Gunnersson, and Tyler Bozak all won with the Blues in 2019.

I paused at the 11:13 mark. Bumkis, you're right. Marner should stick it to everybody. And that is to follow the routine that his agent has with his players: play out the contract and leave Toronto with nothing when he leaves. Tell them to bag it when they ask him to forfeit his no-trade clause. You media types are hilarious. Build up the Leafs year after year, blame the fans for losses, then come out here thinking your opinions as fantasy GMs matter. They don't.
