At 17:45, that arm that is waiving from the coach, that's me! My mom, just as much a railfan as I am, is sitting next to me. We are both covered in soot and cinders from alternately hanging out of the window, and both loving every minute!
Great video. What a day that was. Went to Jim Thorpe to see 2102 with a friend who hadn't seen it. We arrived to find two steam locomotives operating. What a pleasant surprise. We lucked out catching this as I didn't know 425 was scheduled to operate that day, also. Very grateful to the BM&R for doing this.
Oh my...this is fabulous. 🙂 My son sent this to my phone, I can't stop watching it. I did the Iron Horse Ramble in Pennsylvania this year. Simply Fabulous...just Fabulous. I was born in the wrong century. 🚂🚂🚂
Let’s not forget that on this day of the doubleheader, it was R&N Chairman, Owner, and CEO Andy Muller Jr’s. birthday as him and his family were on board that train on the observation deck of the Black Diamond.
I got to be on this excursion and let me tell you it was absolutely amazing! The sound, the smell and the view was simply breathtaking! The Reading and Northern is no doubt the greatest heritage railroad in North America!
@@DynamoProductions-trains I’m curious. The dining car on the train also doubled as a souvenir car. Does the RBM&N usually do that on they’re excursions?
Isn’t cool that 2102 has 2 whistles? One is the Reading 6 chime like 425 toots. The other sounds a little like the CK Holiday whistle on the Disneyland Railroad in Anaheim. I like ‘em. So glad to see these 2 locomotives double head for the first time in a long time when it was called the Blue Mountain and Reading.
That other whistle is a Reading freight hooter, and is potentially the same hooter it wore back in its revenue service days on the Reading. I’m fairly certain all the T1’s had ‘em.
Wow, that's awesome! That was the second time these two engines doublehead together since in 1987-88 on their days on the ex-Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad. That's extremely epically awesome! Well done!
It’s quite funny hearing those beautiful whistles screaming their lungs out and then you hear the SD50 @ 11:50 let out a pitiful “eeEe” In all seriousness, excellent video!
Indeed, and we all loved it! When 4:25 was whistling it's hard out, behind the big engine, you couldn't hear her at all! That stack was among the loudest things I've ever heard. And I remember her back in 91.
I was there, fifth car from the engine, 508. At varying times, you can see me or my mother leaning out the window to get soot and cinders on our face. We jostled for position. People tell me I'm a foamer....and they wonder where I get it from. Sadly missing was my grandmother, head nurse of old community general hospitals ER. We lost her a few years ago, but I was able to get her behind 425 one more time, before she died. I know she was there with us. Enjoying the steam and steel like we did 30 years ago.
Being on that train, during the final run by at, I think, Molino, was amazing. We saw such a crowd of people, and the engineers put on such a show. We rushed to one side to wave at the cameramen, and secretly, I think , each group was a bit jealous of the other!
Nothing like 2 Reading 6 chimes and a Reading Hooter!! The G1 whistle on 2102 is my favorite but that G2 is nice too and I will forever love 2102s Hooter I sure missed that the last 31 years!😊 I sure missed the BM&R Doubleheaders I rode them all in the 1980s this was great that it happened again!
Well, yeah, it kinda was. In the return trip, it actually worked, but before that, it was kinda pulled along a lot of the time. They said they wanted 2102 to do most of the work, so that’s probably why.
With RDG 2102 back in operation and RDG 2100's restoration work proceeding smoothly, here's to hoping ASR and Reading & Northern collaborate into reuniting the two T-1 sisters in a doubleheader excursion!
Did anyone see the smoke coming from the bearings on the tool car at the 10:15 mark. Don’t know if that breaks or the axle but yeah that’s noticeable in the video
@@funtechxtream8753 this locomotive has been around since it was rebuilt in 1945. It has bringing bringing joy to rail fans for 80 years. So when you get a little bit older, and you come on down, she will still be here!
I've "touched" on this in the past, but has anybody out there noticed that Chrysler/ Dodge had "mimicked" the yellow paint on 2102's foot boards and has applied it to the front-end "air-Dam" of the Charger and Challenger? 'Looks kinda strange, but at least we know where the idea came from right?

I was on that trip. It was my graduation present. Greatest time of my life, riding behind two breathing iron monsters.
That was absolutely brilliant. Up there with the best railway videos I've seen. What an honor to engineer these beautiful machines:)
My all time favorite chase that ive done on the nicest day of 2022 absolutely immaculate all around

Glad to be part of the collaboration! Thanks for having me on board and well done to all involved!
Nice
Gald to see another vid I was on board this trip and it was epic to ride behind 2 legends of steam I highly recommended the iron horse Rambles
They put on an excellent show
2102 and 425 are very cool together and they are very big.

Sure must of been one hell of a fun day chasing that doubleheader
Talk about a reunion! Nice job!
Glad you enjoyed
That was magnificent!
I still come back to this every now and again, the sound of dueling Reading 6 chimes is absolute savagery! 😎

1:45 finally, someone uses the smoke as a transition lol.
Nice video as always.
Thanks

Hey! There’s me at 16:45. And Andy Mueller wasn’t the only big name on that train, Ross Roland was on the train also.
Wait really? Which car was Ross on?
@@BenBensonStudios he was on one of the private cars at the rear or in the dome cars. He once passed thru the vestibule I was in.
That's cool! I didn't ride the excursion so unfortunately I didn't get to see him.
WHAT WHAT WHAT?!? Really?

Yes
I was just thinking the same thing!
that might be cause its the same whistle
oh the things i would give to have seen this double header taking off

At 13:37, we can see that there is coal in the reading 2102 tender. But isn't 2102 an oil burner? Probably changed in restoration.
It’s always been a Coalburner
