Speaking as a member of the Marine Barracks Yokosuka Japan Silent Drill Team 81-83 this is impressive. I have two nieces living in Norway so I have been studying the language and culture in anticipation of visiting there. @superduper6d5 I understand where superduper6d5 is coming from and to be humble is admirable as well. It's fine in my view to be proud of your heritage, of the accomplishments of those who share it and who came before you. A is followed by B does not mean B was caused A.

Personally i don't feel proud. However i feel a greater sense of gratitude and respect when i see people do great things. It is ok to sometimes feel some pride of ones own actions and achievements, but not to take pride in someone elses. Pride comes before a fall...
Conscription in Norway is just a word now. If you don't want to join the military it's easy to avoid it. Just say you're not motivated, or that you're a pacifist and you won't get selected.
Don't know why i got downvoted, because it is absolutely normal to not wanting to join the army as a man. Anyhow that's good to hear, I didn't know that. but if you can avoid it that easily then it's not real conscription i think.
It is not a gift, it's a responsibility i am not willing to take if it is not equally distributed. Maybe you don't mind but most people rather not join the army, even in times of war.
Due to the sequester, none of the USMC Bands have been doing much of anything outside of their respective immediate locations. It looks like next year 2014 will be a little better for us. We can only hope
