Thank you so much for your videos. I have to test out in a spot almost exactly like this. It is so hard! Your videos and your instruction is so helpful! If i ever get a job, I will definitely be contributing to your website. You are a Godsend! Keep up the great work, my friend!
Thank you mate. I have been driving here in UK for almost a year now. But some time I come to close to the trailer on my driving side. Your advice that trailer should not point towards space you going in sort my problem big time. Thank you so much. You are a legend
Another great video. I’d park a trailer if I had too but I don’t like parking at tight truck stops like that. All I think about is the careless ones hitting me backing in and leaving their own spots next to me. Lol
Haven't tried this but your videos are awesome. Very informative thank you. This may help my truck stop parking. dock parking is not so bad its truck stop parking I dread but I dont do much of that because I team anyway. If I ever have to go solo your videos will help me out. I've done tight parking before though just not much. Thank you thank you thank you!!
Thanks for introducing the tires or the wheels view, it was confusing in the beginning of the video , but after a few minutes I figured out how it works, now It's very helpful to know when and how many degrees you are turning, thanks also for adding the lines over the trucks, it helps showing the angle of the bend, thanks for making trucking more fun, and less terrifying.
The biggest lesson I took from this is that sometimes you just cannot make it in a spot regardless of how good you are. An important lesson. Explains why I see $300k super sleepers making spots on the curb.
I’m just wanna say thank u for all the effort you put on every video I just have a couple of weeks driving and your videos and your method really helped me! Keep going with your channel! ✌🏼
I’ve been driving for 37 years and like a baseball players I’ve been in a slump lately, “ was out for four months with a broken leg”can’t back up if I had a gun to my head. Your video was very helpful. I have to back up in your scenario 4 times a day and it is nerve racking.
Another great video. I know everyone appreciates you. Your a great teacher and your videos are right on. You have aerial, mirror and tire views as what people need. Too many put videos up and show partial if that of what they are doing. Then they back into the spit and they are like “there”. Lol 🤦♂️ It’s like in no way did you say why and when they turn their tires and at what position they did so. I mean you get it of course with your detail. People need steps broken down like your videos show. Good job brother. 👍👍👍
That is actually very good advice when you said don’t be afraid to ask someone for help. There are many ways you can get help. If it is one single dock at a customer, Go inside and ask what the other trucks do. They may tell you to slide your axles all the way back, for example. If you have the room in the front this will make it so much easier
I think a lot of truck backing accidents could be avoided if someone would just admit that they struggle with the skill. And, have videos like these to help grasp the concept. Not to mention patients and compassion from vetaran drivers to help. As opposed to making fun and calling names. Because I am sure every driver starting out struggled at some point. That is why videos like these are needed and highly appreciated.
We all been there ,in time you'll get better !! ..never miss an opportunity to practice your backing up ,it's all about practice ..the more you practice the more confidence you build !..remember :a good backing starts with a good setup !..people will come out to help you if you need assistance, there's alot of good truckers outhere!!
It takes time to be proficient at backing up ,keep on practicing! You probably see those guys at the truck stop backing up in one shot and you say oh man those guys are good ...they weren't so good 20 something years ago when they started. I've been in my early days to some companies in California with really small yards and I used to watch the other more experienced drivers backing up ...watch and learn.. it's free! ..a good back up start with a good set up , assess the situation and come up with a setup ...one more thing :don't let the other drivers put pressure on you. Take your time , make them wait , if you hit something you'll be the one to answer to your boss not them .
Didn’t really feel comfortable doing it solo until the 2nd year. 4 years in now and I’m confident in everything except blindside in between 2 trailers. With that i need a spotter or lots of time to GOAL
Exactly what I was going to ask lol since I had a similar backing situation, I had a pick up in LA and this facility has trailers parked parallel in front of the docks, similar to the imaginary fence in the video. The facility gave me a dock where there was a truck on my left side but right side had a trailer, no matter what I tried, I couldn’t get it in lol yard dog had to move the truck on my left side. Funny thing is I’m pretty sure 2 other drivers were talking smack about me when they saw me back but they had the same situation as me lol couldn’t get it in due to the parked trailers up front and trucks on both sides. Horrible
Your Awesome, Thank you for sharing your experience with us all. Your leaving a Legacy that we won't forget but treasure and share with others. Thank you for helping us improve and helping us be better truck drivers.. Thank you thank you thank you Sir.
Nice, impressive!!! Ukraine watchs you ... i watch your videos and study how to drive truck. One of the best tuts you made. Best channel about trucking skills !!!
Thanx for your creativity and skill s You have taught me a lot. tight spots like that are a night mare. For me especially at a truck stop when it s dark and I m tired from being at work for ten or twelve hour s I try and avoid it if I can I’m in my 4th year of driving but I ve only been sleeping in the truck for just over a year .I ll keep practing
This helps alot. Been at the railyards in and out and been trying different ways to setup. The rear axle center really helps also when exiting on tight spots . When the rear axles are about the pass the side trailers or when theyre next to them u can turn coming out and the rear trailer will follow without hitting.
From the bottom of my heart I cannot thank you enough and God bless you for making these wonderful videos helping those in need of help understanding difficult spot backing trailer truck. Thank you thank you thank you
Great tutorial for a tight backup. I'm still struggling with backing up and thinking in opposite terms with regard to the steering wheel. I mentioned in one of your other videos that I just finished attending a transport training school but I was not successful at passing my road test. There were a number of things that happened that day but suffice it to say I BOMBED my backup......BADLY !!! But I'm really struggling with this task but I'm determined to learn this. I AM not, and WILL not give up. . I'm waiting for the school to get the second date booked for me, so until they do, I'm keeping up on my schedule 1 stuff, the air brakes testing procedures, and trying to learn how to use a log book and stuff. I decided to book a one on one with an instructor at the school that I will get as close to test day as possible. It's really expensive [over $600 cdn] but I have no choice. If I don't get help on backing up, I will NOT pass. It's that simple. . . my backing up is THAT bad, it's almost embarrassing. There is NO hope in hell of me passing without sorting out some mental blocks that's keeping me from getting this. . Anyway, I've taken up enough of your time. . . my problem. Your videos really are helping me understand this. I guess the only way to know if anything is sinking in is on the day I have the one on one. If you're interested, I'll keep you in the loop. If not, I get it, you have a family and a life. NO bigs man. Cheers man, Mike

@@MyTruckingSkills Thanks David, I'm going to give it a try today. I just DL'd the game. I'll start with level 6 like you suggested. I believe it's the 90 degree alley dock right ?
Same here, just went west coast dedicated, and it seems like EVERY truckstop is this tight (esp Loves and the older J's). We need move video's like this, cause I'm finding more and mroe I need to do this type of backing, with the axles all the way forward (huge tail-swing) but there is no room to setup for a standard 90 or 45.
Very impressive, you always surprise me with your creativity , and imagination you are ahead of our time, very good job, thanks so much, may God bless you and your family.
I wish I would have viewed this last Thursday when I only had 5 inches of space between the front of my tractor and a 6 ft high concrete wall. That dock was made for day cabs, not for sleepers. I got it in there after 11 GOALs, 30 minutes of finessing, three gallons of sweat and tears, and enough cursing to make my grandma slap me into next week.
Thank u for help me Saturday at Costco Irvine moving my fifth wheel. And I'mma start looking at your videos to help me out when I don't know what to do thank you for giving me your information
It's gotta be either roomy in the front or barely roomy on the sides , average truck stop space from yellow line to yellow line is 12 ft or 13 ft wide when close to one line You are gonna have around 4 ft or 5 ft before hitting the other side but you have to get out and look always when you have a dangerous angle at the rear of the trailer , You did it like a pro' almost at once! Good job Driver!
Had a similar situation but trailers were much closer together about 10 inches left on either side after parked. Took almost an hour to get in and any resets
Sadly, this is becoming the norm in both truck stops, docks, trailer yards and drop and hook customers. Definitely need more videos on these ultra tight backs, with no room to swing.
Hi i love your videos. The only time i am having difficulty backing up is when there are no yellow or white guide lines at the dock i keep going back and forth to make it straight and align it properly at the dock its killing me . Please make a video on how to back up at the dock when there are no guide lines available..as you know some of docks dont have those yellow guide lines...thanks a lot
David I wish I would of watched this video because just two days ago I was at a yard in pa at the cs wholesalers and i tried to back into a tight space and because i over steered and got to close to the trailer on my left, to keep from touching it, i stopped and got security to get the yard man to come help me. He had me uncouple my tractor and he ended up taking it to a different location. I believe if I would of set up correctly, I could of got it in there. I'm gonna take a picture of that yard so I can see what you would of done differently
Ya, a place like at is more common then you think. It's even tough pulling out of a space like those. Play my game and you will get a good grasp on what you need to do. Especially levels 56 and up
That's a really tough one , but those trailers serve as a reference , plus u got the lines , can u put one with no markings on the floor and no trailers around?
That was the easy part..show us how u got the landing gear down.. haha. Im from SoCal,I know how tight most of these docks are, I have trouble with getting my landing gears down
Excellent video although I believe in a truck stop situation if there was a tractor attached to the trailer next to the spot it would have been pretty much impossible
I'm barley going to start trucking school, but I would like to know....What is the MAIN objective when setting up? From my super rookie understanding, do you try to get your trailer at a 45 degree angle? You HAVE to have some set point that you always get into.
Another very informative video which required a lot of production effort and dedication . Every time i look at it i learnt something new, very scientific approach. Much appreciated. What drone do you use ?, seems to stay up for a while.
@7:40 I have a really tough time with my trailer being close to the driver side, it makes me nervous that I’m going to hit the truck on the left side. However, I been practicing but still not good, some people has guided me in and told me to jack knife (hard right) to get it in then pull forward and go back and vice versa. But here I noticed your chasing the trailer with hard left, is it because your already at a 45 degree angle? I tried this at a shipper and the truck on my blind aide honked at me, I even got out and look and I was a little confused lol.
The main mark is position at 7:07, when the trailer's corner is abeam of parked trailer. Just give us an angle and a distance at this moment. So, 45 deg. and 2 meters would be enough?
Nope, it would not have. But I like where you head is. In some cases it would not, this is one of the few times it would be impossible. One of the reasons I made this video. It just wouldn't fit. I experimented with the same space trying to pull out of the space with the axles to the rear, and I needed more room. In a small area you need to axles forward. I'm sure you are a great driver, but this is something I have proved over and over again to people. It's best too get out and look at the over hang then have no swing. But thanks for the comment. 17 years driving mostly local.
i was driving in the bay area 35 stops a day with a 45ft trailer 90% were all back in stops. timing the cut off of 4 lanes of traffic in SF into a alley was by far the best part of my day. people were amazed how fast i got the truck docked . your videos are great keep em coming
Failed this at the Pilot on Trollingwood in NC. VERY appropriate name for this place. It seems like the aisle is only about 60' wide. I couldn't for the life of me get the trailer where I wanted it with the right angle. I gave up when everyone came out to help, didn't feel like being the night's entertainment. I'm glad I don't have a CB...
Hi Dave, I want to let you know that you gotta change the site in your description as this mytruckingskills.com if you start it with www it says this site can not be reached, I advise you to add a link for paypal donation to the description box, it's more simple and fast than visiting a site, also please make the site adress solid in your videos, it keeps moving and dancing like a snake and reduce my focus a little bit.
My Trucking Skills Yes indeed it's fixed now, I came back to rewatch your video, and I find new Infos or lines, and I say to myself , how come I didn't hear or see this before??!! your videos require Focus, Attention and Repetition to collect all the precious and valuable gems.
You asked so.... (respectfully) No, dont like steer in wheel view. Busy and confusing. Much more informative and understandable would be for you to illustrate them in the same way you do when you draw in the tandems. That way we can see cab movement in relation to tire angle. More work for you, sorry, but muck more clear. Thanks again for all you do.

The main mark is position at 7:07, when the trailer's corner is abeam of parked trailer. Just give us an angle and a distance at this moment. So, 45 deg. and 2 meters would be enough?
skills on the hills
God damn that was a tight squeeze
Thanks again and again Thanks sir
Man, backing almost made me quit driving truck after a month I got my cdl.. Backing a trailer isn't easy.
Sliding tandems to the back and it will make this maneuver 1000 times easier. Not sure why more drivers don’t do it
Nope, it would not have.
As beginners we have no idea of sliding tandems and we get stuck.
Time to fire up. Euro Truck Simulator .
Look like home depot distribution in SALEM,OR OR LOWE'S DISTRIBUTION CENTER LEBNON,OR
GP in Portland Oregon
Do you have a video on driving in snow/freezing rain?
No, just chaining.
How....lmfao. I just need a fraction of your skill
If you watch the tandems when it was backing in the tandems were sliding to the left and to the right I need a trailer like that.
Anybody got any suggestions on how to park on the inside dock at these grocery places in north east ( market basket in Tewksbury )
Dude you’re a god
No doors open helps for sure
Chicago you'll do many blind side off a street
Was that you on I-5 north of wheeler ridge ,CA today 10/28. Looked like you but you were a blur at 65 in a 55. Stupid California speed limits..
No. I'm an LA Local
Thats plenty of room.... lol
All well and good until wing mirrors come into play.
lol try that in down town San Francisco or some other big city into narrow alley fun times
Are you saying it wouldn't work using this method?
it works.. its the only way it works
Oh...Okey..., Then agreed, but Hard to pull off sometimes though.
i was driving in the bay area 35 stops a day with a 45ft trailer 90% were all back in stops. timing the cut off of 4 lanes of traffic in SF into a alley was by far the best part of my day. people were amazed how fast i got the truck docked .
your videos are great keep em coming
Are you irish? If so how did you manage to get work in America? Better pay I presume over there??
Fantastiic lol
Failed this at the Pilot on Trollingwood in NC. VERY appropriate name for this place. It seems like the aisle is only about 60' wide. I couldn't for the life of me get the trailer where I wanted it with the right angle. I gave up when everyone came out to help, didn't feel like being the night's entertainment. I'm glad I don't have a CB...
Oh no. Hang in there!! It gets better and easier. But it is scary when there are so many trucks around.
👍👍
I would have liked too see that manoeuvre in an actually tight yard. From the other way blind side too would be properly cool
That would be nice to see
Maybe you can put your steering wheel at the front of the hood.
Maybe
That's not a difficult back up........................4 him 🙂
Hi Dave, I want to let you know that you gotta change the site in your description as this mytruckingskills.com if you start it with www it says this site can not be reached, I advise you to add a link for paypal donation to the description box, it's more simple and fast than visiting a site, also please make the site adress solid in your videos, it keeps moving and dancing like a snake and reduce my focus a little bit.
Thx
Fixed
My Trucking Skills Yes indeed it's fixed now, I came back to rewatch your video, and I find new Infos or lines, and I say to myself , how come I didn't hear or see this before??!! your videos require Focus, Attention and Repetition to collect all the precious and valuable gems.
You asked so.... (respectfully)
No, dont like steer in wheel view.
Busy and confusing.
Much more informative and understandable would be for you to illustrate them in the same way you do when you draw in the tandems. That way we can see cab movement in relation to tire angle. More work for you, sorry, but muck more clear.
Thanks again for all you do.
Ok. I think I understand what you taking about. I'll see what I can do. I'm trying to please to many people lol.
Wow did you see how close your nose in the front right came to the trailer?
You do know that trailer wasn't really there ya?
My Trucking Skills Ha! Yes...but let’s say “virtually”
👍
guess im gonna buy a horse instead
Hey David what made you go into trucking
Has no education, needed to a job that issue more than minimum wage.
