Just got this haven't heard of it before now but seemed ok hope it's good. I got a 35 card grabbed axiom.verge 2 n quake. Thus was on sale for like 3 bucks or somn and o had enough left on funds so figured why not

This game is so hard I bought it on sale cause I like modern styled 16but games and this game is almost impossible some points but like I can't put it down it looks so good and is so fun, also has a little puzzle and Zelda feel
It's really not hard at all, at least if you compare it to it's source of inspiration. It's extremely fair as it gives you infinite coins and xp to grind, and the bosses aren't too difficult. Keep at it and you'll be a 16bit hero in no time! :)
@@Smackosynthesis not sure if you've gotten around to playing Aggelos yet but as a huge Wonder Boy/Monster Boy fan I can say it's worth your time. Easily one of my favorite Switch indies.

These types of games are perfect for handheld mode but, without a proper dpad on the upper left corner and a right joycon without an analog stick that gets in the way, it is very uncomfortable. Joycons with the WiiU lay out would be perfect
I agree with this. Personally I have found our joycons to be a bit finicky... the left analog stick will not even have to be touched and the characters will move on their own. I thought my old WiiU performed better and was more comfortable to hold. Still love my switch though.

There is alot of retro games out there, but this one has caught my eye. I need something more relaxed. I tried to play Shovel Knight with my son and... well... it was a challenge for him to play games I used to play, (I know I've said it before and I will say it again) kids today are soft. To be objective, your thoughts on value mirrors what I was thinking. This looks like a must buy when a sale come around.
The looks are slightly deceiving in my opinion. This is not a walk in the park by any means, the puzzles can be quite challenging and while the combat may not be as difficult as say Megaman or Ghosts and Goblins, you do need to master a number of abilities and enemy patterns and do some rudimentary planning from time to time. It's a fantastic game, don't get me wrong, but don't expect your child to just breeze through the game effortlessly.
A little off topic, but you know what games I'd like to see on the switch? The adventure island series...or even a remake of adventure island would be interesting! I used to play that game non-stop as a kid. Did any one else enjoy that series??

Stumbled here to see what others think of it as I've just started playing it yesterday. I'm really, really digging it. I love the whole affair. Honestly I think the only thing I'm not happy with is its length. However, Dragon Boy felt a bit long in the tooth by the end so I'll take a shorter more charming game over a longer less charming one.
Excellent review! The only thing that sort of bothers me about this game is the way it scales. None of the pixels seem to scale properly. Also, maybe one or two filtering options would have been a nice addition for a retro style game like this.

There are always 5x scores out of 20, but the categories can sometimes get changed around. Usually gameplay and controls are the two that end up being combined or possibly story doesn't receive a score but if there is enough of a reason to separately talk about all 3 of those, then at times audio/visuals can be combined instead. It's happened a couple times.

I just got this as I found out that it is a metroidvania of sorts and I was happier than a pig in s**t that It wasn't stupid hard like most games like this releasing now like cybershadow or blasphemous I don't mind a challenge but sometimes I would rather just through the entire game without getting so mad or frustrated that I put the game down and yea I have to put some down because controllers are to much money to throw or even my switch because I really very rarely play in docked mode but I feel these developers did it rite by giving us a choice for difficulty

The categories change based on the game. Some don't need story scored as they aren't about that.

I'd say this is actually far closer to Master System level 8-bit visuas (and sound) than it is 16-bit SNES level.

Here in the U.S., at least, using the term "SJW" as an insult is something that's very en vogue for alt-right trolls, Gamergaters, 8chan dwellers, incels, extremists and the type of guy who review bombs Star Wars movies because they have women and black people in them. I'm always disappointed by how much the gaming community is wrapped up in regressive, hateful rhetoric like that, and I hope (and trust) that's not who you are. I agree with Diana's comment wholeheartedly, and would add that -- especially in today's world -- we need real social justice warriors. After all, what else would you call people like Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela or even Superman?
