I always feel happy when I’ve watched an episode of Mindful Narrowboat. I had to smile when I saw your harvest, you made a lovely micro salad though! I love your otter painting, I hope you get to see one soon. X
Hello Shirley, I hope you are well. Yes, that micro salad would have left an ant hungry! 🐜🤣 Thank you so much for your kind words about the otter painting, unfortunately, it's not changed my luck when spotting them! 🦦 Take care🦋🌻
Hello Vanessa - greetings from Poland That was lovely. How nice to see Neil the Seal again. Clever how he got himself out of the water and up onto the bank. The whooper swan was a treat. I can't recall seeing one before. As for Jimmy Cricket - I honestly didn't know there were crickets in the UK. See - another educational video. Thanks so much for producing it.
The whooper swan was my first ever spot too! I am so glad that you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Enjoy your weekend.🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa. Writing this on Kia Kaha in Upware Marina as we prepare for the off tomorrow!! It has seemed like forever but we are finally at the start of our latest journey. How lovely to see Neal the Seal again: and I can hardly believe a Whooper Swan came early just so you and Zephyr could see him! Nanny Tommo seems like a lady after my own heart - not sailing the Atlantic; the loving the wine bit!!! What a small world we live in. Was talking to a lady called Sarah who has been in Upware Marina on her narrowboat Bellarephon for a few weeks and I mentioned your lovely vlogs . . . and she met you at The Fish and Duck Marina when you left your boat there to go caravanning!! How crazy is that? Sarah's boat is moored 3 up from us and she is happily making cakes for everyone! Happy Mindful cruising.
I am so excited for you, Jill as you start your boating adventures again and you are bringing the weather with you! 😎☀️ How lovely that you met Sarah, she was so kind to me when I went to the Fish and Duck and she taught me how to put up a rotary line! Which, believe or not, I didn’t know how to do!🤣 It doesn’t surprise me that she is making cakes for everyone as she seems to have a heart of gold. Also, she has made a wise choice with mooring at Upware as I would live there if I didn’t continuously cruise. Well, Bon voyage and thank you for sharing the word about my vlogs, that is very kind of you!🌻🦋
I think they’re beautiful too. I hope some more arrive to join it now. Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, Cherry!🦋🌻
About three weeks ago, I heard my first cricket which, in normal terms, signals the first frost is six to eight weeks hence. Climate change has turned those Nature "signals" I grew up with on their head...sadly so in under 60+ years! GLAD Neal the Seal paid y'all a visit to honor your obvious connection to Nature - animals known such things and don't forget. Nice salad and great vlog! Many blessings. Cheers...
We are definitely having to adapt to our new climate. I filmed swallows today still feeding their young which must have been so tiny as they couldn’t even poke their heads out of the nest and I suddenly thought, how are they going to be ready to make that huge, migratory journey any time soon? Anyway, thank you so much for watching, Ross and for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend!🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa..thanks for another lovely video of your cruising.. I see Neil the Seal has been feeding on the Bream shoals along 10 Mike bank ..he / she looks so fat .. think a diet may be called for .. Nice to see NaN Tommo , bet she has some great seafaring Adventures to tell of sailing the Atlantic.. I think Otters are mainly active during the night, and I like your Otter Spotter cupboard door .. As usual amazing close up photography of the speckled bush cricket.. And the Whooper Swan waiting for his mates .. Happy cruising Vanessa .. say hello to Zephyr from me ..🌷
Hi Michael, Neil the Seal has got a lot of fish to choose from and apparently the local fishermen are not great friends of his! I think he/she is wonderful though and such a character!🦭 Nanny Tomo has amazing stories to tell and I could listen to her all day. Have you ever come across otter on your fishing adventures? Thank you for your lovely comment and take care🌻🦋
I know this is relating to another video, but sometimes I'm taken by surprise at the rather sudden ending. This happens in the earlier videos. Lapwings! A deceit of lapwings? That's a new one to me, but when I was farming in Hampshire in the 60s they were very common, nesting amongst the newly emerged cereal crops. We were very careful not to damage the eggs as we passed by with rollers etc. However, these birds would stay on their nest until the very last moment, giving us the best chance of avoiding the nest full of eggs. Occasionally we would pick the whole nest up, pass over it and the return it to exactly the same spot. It was very important to replace it in this way, as a few feet out and the mother wouldn't find it! Wasn't advisable to touch the eggs as this would put the bird off. I have heard some of the older men say that if they used their hat or cap to handle the eggs, the parents would return to the nest. So there you go! Modern machinery is wider and travels faster, so less time for the birds to be avoided. Love your videos. Sorry if my reminiscing bores you. Take care.
What a wonderful story of the care you were showing to the lapwings. You are right about my earlier videos. I changed the format to make them a bit longer. Have a super week. Take care 🦋🌻
Well done. We just found it unfathomable that the Wissington sugar beat factory had no road access for it's first 18 years. Our first thought was that the workers had to get to the factory from rail or boat and then it struck us that the factory had to be built WITH NO ROAD ACCESS! My oh my, how times have changed.
Hi John, I was shocked about that factory too and I also, couldn’t quite believe how many tomatoes their greenhouses used to produce; I would happily settle for being able to grow just one!😃 Thank you for watching and for your advice last week which you can see, I have taken! Have a super weekend!🌻🦋
Hi! Vanessa. I don't think Neil the Seal was making multiple attempts to climb the bank, just limbering up while checking out the landing site. Amazing! you saw buzzards actually actively flapping! not soaring on thermals. I used to run up a permissive path to a hill where I would sit down and watch the buzzards riding the thermals, then I'd run back home. Bye!
Hi Vanessa, nice to see the seal but he is a long way from home the fisherman won’t be happy to see him in the river ,the bush cricket was a big one lol,got to say don’t eat all that sealed all at once lol ,interesting blog till next time take care keep safe,John 🌹👀🇬🇧👨🍳👨🍳🦟🦟
Hi John, let’s not tell the fishermen about Neil the 🦭! The bush cricket was such a little character but when we moored up it had disappeared from the garden. It was lovely to get up close to it though. Thank you for your lovely comment and have a super weekend!🦋🌻
Have had otters outside my boat on occasions, loads of screaming and squeaking not sure if it was fighting or matting. On one occasion there were two otters on the bank and the cows that roam free along the banks here decided to chase them, I could not believe the speed the otters moved along the bank as well as the speed of the cows, a very strange sight and very odd chase. Yes we have hooper swans and there are a few black swans from Australia.
Hello Vanessa 😊 fancy meeting neil the seal again and for him to jump on the river bank for u. Aren't buzzards a beautiful bird, the way they fly through the air gliding on the thermals with their little screech. As usual a lovely well filmed vlog👌😊. This year has flown by quickly and now ur harvesting ur crop, autumn is on its way and l bet the temperature on Alice Grace is dropping and soon the fire will be lit🔥. Have a safe and interesting coming week 😊. I liked the otter larder door it adds a bit of colour. xx💜🦢🍃
Hi Simon, I hope you are keeping well. It was so lovely to see Neil again with his little, cheeky face and antics! You are so right about this year flying by, but I do love autumn and all of the winter visitors that it brings! 🐦🐤. Thank you for your kind words about the Otter Spotter Cupboard, however now I think the otter looks a bit lost in the middle, so I am going to add some other animals and plants that I am keen to see. Enjoy the sunshine and have a super weekend!🌻🦋☀️😎
More super wildlife photography and how you manage to catch it at the right moment never ceases to amaze me .Did you not go sailing on the lake the other side of the sugar factory? You will have to do the flood relief channel from Denver to Downham Market.
Hi Chris, I didn’t know I could sail on the lakes by the Wissey. I shall have to go back next year and do that. It’s funny you mentioned the Relief Channel as I will talk about that next week. I hope you are enjoying cruising. Have a super weekend in the sun!🦋🌻
I know what you mean, Ruth but Neil gets up on that bank daily, so I think he just weighs up the height with the bobbing. They are incredible creatures. Thank you for watching and have a super Sunday.🦋🌻
Climate disruption is probably making these birds question all their traditions... Maybe families have to discuss their travel arrangements.... Who knows how they cope? Anyway, great vlog, thank you!
Thank you for your comment, Miguel. You are right about the impact of the climate on the behaviour of these birds. Let’s hope governments start to take the drastic action needed! Have a super rest of the week.🦋🌻
It’s no secret in our family that Nanny Tomo likes a bottle or two of vino; in fact, next visit, I am thinking of filling up the water tank with the stuff!🤣🍷 Hitchcock in drag- what a super idea!😁👍
