a great genius, this album is his masterpiece, in my opinion.. writing a song like this or "i do it for your love" without being genius is impossible.. thanks to share!!
I live in a small town in Japan. It is a town nothing. The old man walks around and walks around, there are few children! It is like the lyrics of this song. But even in such a city, it is my precious town.
Totally agree. 'Still Crazy' is Simon at his all time best to me: Ascerbic, wistfull and dark with amazing song structures, lyrics and performance. In my opinion 'My Little Town' tops most of the previous S & G canon. If only there'd been a live performance of it by them at the time.

Wow. A LIVE version. In real VHS - maybe even BETA! Gotta love vintage video. This was one of those tunes that slipped under the radar screen in the late 70's - and probably one of Simon's (actually, Simon AND Garfunkel, who did the backup vocals with Paul on his album "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" AFTER they broke up) best songs.
Great Post, I have been looking for this video. Too bad Art is not there. Never seen this before. Thanks and God Bless! Seems like were I am at in FL and most of the world, we are living this song at this time.....UGH!
@Hasslington yeah, the cartilage in your spine and all around the body doesn't go through mitosis (cell regeneration) so it wears away and we get short
But it's not a touching song about smalltown life. It's a scathing indictment of smalltown life with a touching, beautiful melody: "Pledging allegiance to the wall." "My mom doing laundry, hanging our shirts in the dirty breeze" "All of the colors are black. It's not that the colors aren't there, It's just imagination they lack. Everything's the same back in my little town." These are not appreciative images. They're expressions of meaninglessness. That's the song's power.
@THE59TH Thanks for the post! Sad to hear about the other songs. Is there a chance that you could post them again and see, this time if they can be on RUclips just for while? I would really like to see them! :-)
I'm itching like a finger on the trigger of a gun. Want out of my 'little town' because, truly, everything has died here. Yet, like so many, I can't sell the property so I am trapped.
I would love to find out which part of the UK the clips of the 'little town' are. I find it amazing to think that Paul used to busk around Britain in the early 60s. am I right in beleiving that homeward bound was written somewhere around Liverpool? or a seaside town in the North West of England?
So hauntingly enjoyable. Amazing arrangement but doesn't sound right without Artie. I feel like this song is about our "can't wait to leave / yet long to go back" to our home towns and the mixed memories we have of them.
@@SimonDooker Finally... SOMETIMES things work out the way you hoped... I read from the person who testified and I was hoping it would stand as a appreciated confirmation...
A good song, but it's got to have Garfunkel on it. I'm sorry, but Paul's high, little voice strains to get up to the notes, but the band plays louder and fortunately comes along for the ride-- Thank God. They BOTH combined to make that record good. Good song, agreed, but this performance doesn't quite satisfy--and my opinion only.
My comments were taken out of context. when I said it was too bad about the Lyrics of this pretty song, I didn't want to infer it was a bad song because it's not really a bad song, not a really really bad song, well, not a really REALLY REALLY BAD Song. If you have earplugs in.
A Berwyn Mountain Range Hit, tangled up in a wired web of Male role call. Demographic, who's who on top of ole smokey with cheese. Come on you guys, Brian is Brian and always be Brian not much else to say about this male. Hi Ya, Hi Wa, The miss piggy finale. Thanks been interesting, Brian Koller
It is a nice tune, too bad about the lyrics. What does Simon know about little towns anyway. Someone should cover it and change all the words to have a happy song.

Absoloutly. Simply a Genius

Usually memories of high school aren't the best, but the whole bus singing this and 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover is the greatest.
The piano in this live song is right on! Wow!
excellent tune !!
love live the musical genius that

This so great!
Expertly written. One of my favourite songs. Like others on here I heard it first on the Breakaway album
Great song and lyrics - this is poetry and truth.
This should be the new motto for America.
It was the '70's, that is how many of us we wore it back then.
Give THE 59 a medal for posting this! Just wonderful and unavailable anywhere. RUclips was made for this!!
Many thanks for posting!!
Right on the money! Great call.
Good taste in tunes. I think It may be my fav too. Love me like a rock and cecilia are up there too
rare footage thanks for posting!!
This is a very rare concert -- thank you so much!
Great song.
Thanks for posting it.

It was also on Art Garfunkel's album of that year.
Forgot about this little gem

what a great song.

love this song ,,long live simon and garfunkel!!
awsome song
BEST song!
Is it just me? I always thought this song had a really Philadelphia soul sound since I first heard it.
Awe! A centipede wanted to kiss his upper lip!
I love Paul Simon.

I've never heard just Simon singing this. It's nice, but in the end, thank goodness it turned into a S&G song. It's hard to imagine it otherwise.
It's just not fair that Edie Brickell gets to have him all to herself!
Classic 70's tash!

This was better when he teamed up with Art and sang it.

WHOOPS! I meant "Still Crazy After All These Years" album - what the hell was I thinking?
It just doesn't work without Artie.
Obviously not, but the lyrics can transpose to anyone's hometown (at least in the West).
So hauntingly enjoyable. Amazing arrangement but doesn't sound right without Artie.
I feel like this song is about our "can't wait to leave / yet long to go back" to our home towns and the mixed memories we have of them.
He lost Garfunkel and gained Little Richard
Aww, youtube always deletes the good stuff, whilst some of the greatest crap stays on youtube. Would've liked to see number 6 and 7.
The video clips of "my little town" looks like the North West UK.....rows of terraced houses.
Yes , but in Paul's minds eye when he wrote the song was the town of Gloucester, Massachusetts....USA
@@SimonDooker
That is what he said so he didn't offend the people of Flushing?
No, it was the home town of a playwright acquaintance.
@@SimonDooker
He didn't said that for obvious reasons......😀
More than you! lol! HAHAHA!!!
Wonderful.
But the hair? What was he thinking? haha
Incredible man though.
Location: a disused warehouse, lakeside, Bristol December 1975 ?
That's what someone said on another part...
They said they were present at the taping and that it was done in Bristol
nice to have it confirmed.

I believe I was reading all the comments...
And a certain person testified to having been there..
at this event
where is this little town they show in this video,it dosent look like any american town that i knw???????????????
@misanthrope8 he went to the bathroom real quick....
paul is only 4 ' 11" tall
Are you insane? He's almost 5' 4! Quite some difference! He does look short next to Garfunkel, though..
This is probably after Simon and Garfunkel broke up for awhile
actually paul is 4' 9"
