Gregory was truly one of the greats, out of my record collection he holds one of the biggest parts, I have probably a couple of hundred Gregory singles. By the time of this performance his voice was slightly on the decline. I saw Gregory live numerous times, first time I think was around 1978 but for me the second time I saw him which would have been around 1981-82 is still one of the best musical performances I’ve ever seen - saw him with the full Roots Radics band (every member was present) a truly great night.

I can't agree more with you, Sir! I can still remember our English teacher bringing his radio with a cassette of GI's great song 'Night Nurse' for a listening comprehension lesson. It happened in 1986 and after the lesson I took a bus to go and purchase that cassette. I lost it two years ago and cried like a child. We miss him dearly but he is in our heart. When I feel low I go to RUclips to listen to his music. May he RIP.
First time I heard Gregory was in the 80's when I was in my early teens. I still listen in my early 50's. Rip sir and thank you for all the emotions I feel when I listen.
@sherforlife1 you make a point I have always paid attention to about Gregory Isaacs - consistency of his works no matter where he does it from. By contrast (which is by no means a comparison), notice how Peter Tosh almost makes it a point to sing differently in each live performance from either the last live performance or studio recording of the same song. There are very few Peter Tosh live recordings which are identical to studio recordings - I take it it was his choice and signature. Big up to these talented musicians we have been privileged to listen to. Peace, Love and Blessings from Zambia
@@TheBazo71 If you like contrasts then contrast Isaac's voice here and in earlier albums like 'More Gregory' (probably my all time Gregory Isaacs album). It's a big contrast and it's actually saddening IMHO.
I did not believed my eyes when I saw words written R I P cool ruler Gregory Isaacs until I die no one will convince me Gregory was the Best I listen his music daily like food
Live performance sounds just as good as the recorded version which is not achieved by many artists very often. My favourite Gregory Isaac song but only hears this about 2 months ago. Love Rumours and The Border too. RIP!!
Rumours was good but his voice was a shadow of itself by that time. Compare with his voice on 'The Border' (original studio version) and there's a world of difference.
See this when I was 17 now 43 see it on here great live performance absolute legend Jamaican Sinatra one off reggaes all time greats missed but never forgotten rinsed he's tunes as a youth and still doing it now so many favourites he produced sang so many good songs list is endless rock on cool ruler 😎
Wish I saw him live , love all the old school there up there with our Irish rebel songs , especially this tune , GETUP THERE GREGORY 🇨🇮🇯🇲. If you know you know
When I was a teenager on the island of Kauai I went to a Gregory Isacs concert in the convention hall in Lihue it was fucking nuts crazy amazing people were lighting up joints everywhere it was out of control I will never forget how good it was
I Saw him shortly before hes untimliy demise. In a modest setting in uppsala, sweden. Still 100% professional. Like if sinatra had been there. I Loved that spirit, I loved that voice.
I've watched this performance so many times…and still blows my mind that most of the audience is barely moving while the magnificent Cool Ruler is delivering musical perfection!
HE CUT SOME OF THE BEST MEMORABLE TUNES DURING HIS TIME.... I MUST SAY "SLAVE MASTER" IS MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE. WATCHING HIM SINGING IT ON THE MOVIE "ROCKERS" IT FELT LIKE ME ON THE PLANTATION 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

His voice was a shadow of itself by this point here. His real singing voice was a memory on wax by the 1990's. Even before this point.

70's and 80's were best years for reggae by far. The 3 kings for me were always Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs.
I liked Peter Tosh also besides those 3
Not to forget John Holt
I would go as far as to put Frankie Paul in that line up .
Sugar Minott
There were a lot of musical reggae geniuses
That voice, class and style is unique. Rest on Gregory
