Fortnite obviously tried to change its identity after Chapter 1 , it went from competitive building battle royale with goofy cartoon skins , to a social battle royal in which every single ip is in it just works on fortnite cuz thats what they are known for now games like call of duty thats just an identity crisis
It does stick to its dna though, it’s identity isn’t it’s skins it’s the fact that it’s a battle royale with building mechanic and a cartoon esc art style
One thing I don’t like about collabs is how sometimes Epic can make a trash battle pass, but as long as they put one good collab, people will still buy it

Epic and Disney are no different. they’re both greedy. It’s true that Disney makes unoriginal remakes to make money, and that’s exactly what epic does with their collabs. They rely on the community to make modes, thrive off of collabs in the item shop, and so far Chapter 5 has been one big ad
Let’s be real epic does not RELY on the community made maps, they make enough money off BR and the main modes that they don’t need community made maps to begin with
Not in my case, when I saw Peter on the Battlepass I skipped that season entirely because, IDK, it felt like it was too much and he ruined the pass for me. I kind of regret it now because I didn't got the Hope and Agent Jones skin
The good thing with Disney is that it’s only 10% so they are not going to make the decisions for everything more so relegated to their own mode. Also Disney would not stop collaborations with other companies as it’s only 10% but also I like to think they arnt so stupid as to turn down free money as I bet they want Batman in the game as it’s just free money. Also I doubt they would step in to make no changes as them not being the majority shareholder can let them be laughed out of a conference room if they don’t want guns in the game or some shit like that it’s more so they just own a chunk of the company and can put their characters in the game
I don't think Collabs ruin Fortnite, I think the game even more fun to play because you can play as a character from a TV show or a movie which adds more flavor and variety to the game, I think the game benefited a lot from adding these since a lot of people start playing the game due to collabs, I've heard a few people say they started playing this new chapter because of the Peter Griffin Skin so it shows that they're doing something right
Haven't watched the vid yet, but figured I'd give my thoughts so far first and edit it later after I've watched the vid. I don't think the collabs on their own are the issue, I think it's how they've become so central to the game that is the issue. Collabs used to be a fun surprise and not something that would happen everyday. Every battlepass was unique and you never knew what to expect till the next season because they were all fully original. Nowadays they're everywhere and included in every battlepass. It's to much, it ruins the point of a collab as a special event and ruins everything else by detracting from the genuinely creative and unique parts of the game like the original character skins. Part of what made the first chapter so popular was the cool original skins. Omega and The Reaper and iconic and beloved by fans and are all but mascots for fortnite. Now the mascot is whatever crossover skin guest stars in the battlepass that they use as the face of the game and it just isn't the same. Not to mention the shop. We have 2k+ outfits in the game and the majority are original designs, but you'll never see them cause the shop is filled every day with collab after collab after collab. Update: Watched the vid and you have some good points. That being said my stance really isn't altered that much. Disney doesn't seem to be holding them back to much, they literally had a fallout collab so the disney being to soft doesn't seem to have been to bad. I still stand by that the problem is frequency of collabs not the collabs themselves.
Imo the thing where they would put iconic dances in the game and replace the music with their own original one was actually really cool and a subtle wacky way to have pop culture references that still fit in with the original style of the game
Well they stopped doing that because they were getting in trouble especially with the fresh emote and default dance when they got sued for it, so it kinda makes sense why they would want to avoid doing the subtle references and just out right buy the rights to it
@@F1_soap yeah that is actually a very valid point, I never really considered it as a copyright bypassing thing and more as them doing it as a reference, but yeah def makes more sense to just buy it and avoid that whole situation
I like collabs as they can be stupidly funny. Though It definitely changes focus from one of my favorite aspects of the game: the lore. I would want the collabs to be entwined with the lore more, or at least dropped in favor of making a good storyline for the seasons.
I REALLY like collab skins, but I'm really not a fan of when it overtakes br, something like the metal gear box is funny and harmless enough, but swapping half the loot pool for avatar for a month was not
Imo c2s5 collabs were mostly fine with the multiversal bounty hunting theme. Outside a few exceptions like antman, flash, tron skins etc. a fair amount were the type of characters that would be a good pick to yoink as a bounty hunter. Ellen ripley makes sense, xenomorph got sucked in with her, a predator makes sense, master chief makes sense. It's the kind of season where collabs make sense with the theme. And they had a bunch of bounty hunter skins introduced in the season too outside the battlepass
why is everyone acting like disney owns epic? it's 10%! they get to vote in the company and that's about it, and it's not like the other companies and individuals with shares are going to give them up
I remember there was some worry earlier in the game's lifespan that Tencent having a similar large share would ruin the game but nothing big ever came of it. I imagine all that will come from this is collabs with Disney IPs happening a bit more often
Loved this video Layo! Collabs definitely do bring new people to Fortnite and get them hooked! However I don't get as excited when a new collab drop as it's like 'when's the next collab?' ❤
the way i view collabs is they spice up the season admittingly i did not play the marvel season as i started playing in ch 4 but i got interested due to the original ip skins the collabs are salt on the meal while the original skins and story are the main course.
sick of people saying fortnite has lost its identity, yeah, obviously, that's growth, that's marketing, that's called being a successful company it doesn't make the game worse to play, unless your one of the fun police who don't play during events
“Doesn’t make the game worst to play” most if not all the crazy broken items to ever be added to the lootpool have been crossover weapons. They’re actively changing the feel of the game.
I think most of the collaborations are fine. They can be more fun because sometimes they add more missions. They haven't really added alot if tasks to do in the game that evolve around the story. Also in the battle pass they only really add a couple a season. More of the skins are originals. They do have quite a few in the store but they are fairly expensive if you want all of them. They are optional.
In my opinion, sometimes. I think there should be REFERENCES to other things but having cartoon styled goku in the same fight as Jonesy is just weird. If there’s going to be a colab atleast do it with things that fit into the Fortnite world… for example the goblin glider.
I don't think they ruin fortnite, I missed since ch3s3 and the TMNT Collab is the only reason I came back and enjoy the game again. I dont think fortnite has "lost its identity". The only thing I dont like is how some collab skins are no longer available. My only gripe with the collabs is there are a ton that new players will NEVER be able to get. Like that entire marvel battle pass, Mando, Deadpool, Green Arrow in a fortnite crew pack, etc. I just think the collabs need to always have a chance to be available
Fortnite does colabs better than any other game in my opinion, the cosmetics and even gameplay, the spider man webs feel better than most of the offical Spider-Man games where the web swinging was one of the main focuses
Collabs don't ruin Fortnite people just said in the past collabs ruin Fortnite but some collabs change up the gameplay collabs that actually change up the gameplay are really good like the new TMNT event but people likely didn't like collabs because their favorite collab hadn't made it to the game yet collabs actually make people that enjoy those characters released in the collab join the game for them
In my opinion, collabs make and break the game. All the different characters in the game is dope and elevates the game. I say that it also breaks the game, because you have people's favorite characters locked behind a battle pass. Deadpool has been my favorite character since the late 90's but I can't use him because I took a break from the game when he released and didn't find out about him being in the game until it was too late. If you want to make skins rare in a game, don't make those skins collab skins, make them skins that fortnite created.

I love the collabs however I do DESPISE the fact that many iconic collab characters are locked to limited time battle passes. The fact that new players who are also fans of say Star Wars, can never play as Darth Vader, the face of Star Wars, is really stupid. Epic needs to start adopting battle passes that don’t expire or stop putting collab skins as tier 100 items.
