    Thanks for the video which gave me an idea of what to do.
    My seat is identical to yours with regards to the cartridges and removal from seat.
    After repacking with grease I noticed the cartridges wouldn't close up fully even tightening the nut a little too much.
    Reassembled seat and unfortunately there was no resistance at all so I dismantled everything again, removed some of the grease and this time the cartridges closed up fully without too much pressure on the retaining nut.
    The soft close seat works perfectly well now.
    Just thought I'd add this comment as I've read comments elsewhere when the repair hasn't worked.

      "...with regard to..." "With regards" are like "Best wishes" in the closing of a letter.

    Hello, thank you for uploading this informative video. I was curious about how that works all day, and now I am enlightened. It is quite surprising that regular grease can be so effective.

    Silicone grease didn't work at all for me (after many attempts). Ended up using plumber's mait which worked a charm (so far).
    Great video as a starting point, thanks 👍

    I will give it a go with silicone grease as this is the stuff that will not corrode the components.
    Thanks for this plain speaking, no nonsense video.

    Thank you, this worked a treat! The grease is a pain the backside to clean up so I would recommend wearing gloves if you can

    This video is great, and extremely useful. Right now I have the opposite problem though: they close way too slow. Do I understand correctly that with time and wear and tear this will be solved? 😃

    Mina a Rubbermaid brand used a sticky glue like substance.
    There were two Allen set screws with O rings. I used glue trap goo, which I had , stuffing it in the setscrews. I di GG this three times before I noticed a markedly change in improvement . It seems to work near new. The glue is called Tanglefoot. It stays sticky fir a very long time.

    Excellent video - very clear. My seat has slightly different format to the one you show and cannot see how to release the cartridges from the lid. May I please send you a pic so perhaps you can advise on method. No obvious release clip. Thanks.

    I have a moulded seat and it appears I can't get access to the cylinders, so instead I have to buy a new seat. Trying to find a seat with removable cylinders (in case I need to repair or replace in the future) is proving tricky. Can anyone suggest a seat that has accessible hinge cylinders?

    I looked at my toilet seat hinge and it's all plastic I don't see how I can get into the cylinder part. Plus my Bemis has been working fine for maybe 10 years and then I was in a hurry and I forced it down and then it just all of a sudden completely lost its slow close function for seat, but not the lid. It seems like something internally broke rather than it's just lacking grease. I had bought a new seat, actually it turns out, a different mode from the same companyl that seems more cheaply made. However I got the plastic nut from the left side off the hinge but I couldn't get the one on the right side off and it became all mangled, using a socket wrench then pliers. Finally I just cleaned cleaned up all the residents around the hinge and put the old seat back on until I figure out how to get the new one off and find a model that is as good as the old one.

    Hardly a "cheap" repair that silicon grease was nigh on £18:00 for a tiny tub. Nevertheless it does the job, very messy on my model and mare to refit!

    • @Katrina.for_art
      @Katrina.for_art Год назад

      cheaper than a plumber who may charge for part of an hour plus parts and who may say you need a whole new -whatever- so yeah cheap is relative.

    • @maxslain4543
      @maxslain4543 День назад

      Cheap is relative and prices change. A replacement soft close seat for my toilet costs £40. I can get 2 tubes of silicon grease off Amazon cost £3, or a branded tub for £5. Seems like a cheap repair to me. 🙂
