    Yes! Rubbing sugar, flour and cold butter together is an early food memory for me as well. In primary school it was to make scones and at home it was to make Apple and blackberry crumbles for which we would forage for apples and blackberries in the local wood😄

    My hubby made this and it was delish followed the recipe to the tee…we didn’t make the caramel sauce, however, we had bourbon pecan caramel sauce. Thanks Gemma. Second day tasting when it’s warm and ice cream melts on top delish❤️❤️🥰🥰

      Yes, you can! Use Granny Smith apples for the best flavor and texture.
      Bramley apples will be your go-to cooking apples in Ireland or UK, which are very sour to eat but work beautifully in baking, such as Apple Crumble.

    Hi Gemma, is the streusel topping the topping on Dutch Apple pie? I do like the idea of refrigerating it (the day before) so the pie firms a bit for easy slicing. I may add white chocolate chips to personalize it, as I’m the blondie lover and SO loves any apple pie :)

    Im salivating. Is there any way to make it less sugary? It calls for a lot of sugar.

      You can reduce the sugar, but no more than a third or quarter of the amount in the recipe. Sugar not only sweetens, it also helps with the structure of the bake.

    I might make this after Chuseok since we apples are one of the fruit we include in the food served for our ancestral rites! They're not as sour, though 🤔 What would happen if I reduce the sugar down to half? Will it, for example, not thicken up properly?

      You can reduce the sugar in most recipes, including this one. It will however change the consistency a bit, as sugar not only sweetens, it also contributes to the texture of a bake.

    This looks amazing, but I am on a low sodium diet, i don't. Know how to make this low in sodium without compromising the taste? Gemma do you have any suggestions? Thank You

    I made this this morning, and two out of the three layers were perfect; the streusel and the apple pie filling. However, the Blondie part was more like a cake. I did use golden brown sugar instead of dark brown sugar and two extra large eggs. Otherwise everything was as written. the Blondie portion was more like a cake batter that I added 1/3 cup more flour, but it still did not look like the video but I want ahead and proceeded. I baked it as directed up to 55 minutes and let it cool for 20 min and discovered the Blondie was more like a cake and stuck to the buttered parchment paper. Are used a non-stick baking sheet with the parchment paper over it. So what did I do wrong? What could I have done differently? I’d like to perfect this recipe for the holidays so I will make one more batch ASAP. HELP🥺🥺🥺
    PS I tried asking on your website, but it kept crashing on me so I had to use this. Thx

      Hi. A change in the measurements is bound to yield a different result. The additional 2 eggs would be equivalent to half a cup more of wet ingredients. I suggest you follow the recipe as it is first, then you tweak it afterwards. Also, note that flours do not absorb liquids the same way; it may need more or less than the amount in the recipe. Gradually add the wet ingredients when combining wet and dry ingredients, stop when it reaches the same consistency as shown in the video. I hope this helps.

      @@biggerbolderbaking it wasn’t additional 2 eggs. I meant instead of using two large eggs as the recipe called out, I used to extra large eggs that have contributed to the. Batter light consistency? Would light or golden brown sugar add more moisture as opposed to dark brown sugar? I thought it would only change the flavor, but will it also change the batter or dough?
      Also, is it supposed to peel easily off the parchment paper? Thank you again hope to hear from you soon.
