I talked to a mother and her two sons in Arlington the day of the tornado. They all hid in their bathroom and walked out to find their house destroyed. I truly believe that interior bathrooms are the safest place to be if you don't have a concrete safe room, basement or underground shelter. Wish we had basements here in Dallas.
The first home you see in the video belonged to a 65-year-old woman. She was home and hid in her bathroom. All that was left of her bathroom were the pipes sticking up from the foundation! Neighbors pulled her out of the house alive. She went to the hospital and was released with no serious injuries. I was in Tuscaloosa the day after that tornado, and I can say that this one house and a couple others in Forney were as bad as anything I saw in Tuscaloosa. It's a miracle no one was killed.
Do you have a tracking antenna to get that range? I do have a live downlink, but haven't gotten that kind of range yet. I still have a Gaui 330X. I flew it over Jersey Shore before and after Hurricane Irene and during the Bastrop, Texas wildfires. You can see those videos on Newsdrones com if you want to check them out.
The houses that sustain total damage and others are untouched are caused by mini suction-vortices. When they surround the main tornado, they most of the time produce suction-vortices. In theory, these vortices can get to at least 400-600 MPH. Hope I explained it a little better for you.
Actually, it's a custom designed and built quadcopter. I fly it for TVNWeather, Reed Timmer's team. I tried an AR.Drone in Tuscaloosa after that tornado. It worked OK, but didn't really have the lifting capability needed for a decent camera. It also broke easily during a crash. This quadcopter is all aluminum and can take a crash at high speed into hard objects with no damage. It also lifts a small HD camera with ease. But, I now have to use a 7 channel RC controller to fly.
I think I have a good understanding how a house can be untouched while 3 other destroyed. the crazy strong vortices withing the big tornado can spare some while circling. Thanks.
No, Dragonlink is the RF (radio) attachment to the standard RC radio, I use the Turnigy 9X. I also use a 1.5watt video transmitter on 1280 mhz on the 330X, the same ones I use for my other Heptad and Super Solution (AP planes) The 330X carries it okay.
man that house was completely destroyed yet other house next to it stood. this isnt like the tuscaloosa or joplin tornado that took out 6 or 7 houses in that radius, hope nobone was injured in those homes.
I am so so thinkful to be alive I was really really close to the tornado and it had hit me best friend school at the time I didn’t know what was happening I think god and everyone who has us in there hearts
I was in diamond creek 1 street down from Crosby that got hit by it thankfully I stayed alive. The houses next to me were completely destroyed but our house was fine😪🤚🏼
@ 1:21 the entire house was removed from its concrete foundations and prety much blown in top and side of house next to it , amazing to see this , and great way to study and find out abouth construction failures and weak pionts on construction of houses and structures
@chrisjames1962 whats worst than that is the fact of how many people are asleep an will never notice what u say is fact, an they'll call you a fool for being right, ty for being awake
smishroomery, LOL. this is awesome though, the aerial footage comes in handy esp when there is damage you might be able to see things or people trapped if that were the case. Luckily nobody was hurt in this one.

Am i the only one that would be pissed if my house was just destroyed and some guy is flying an RC helicopter around it?

hey reed,
what happend to that RC plane?
(maybe a long time ago i saw it on storm chasers)
is it a gopro?
filming this is like giving the owners another kick in the balls..

This was my home… can’t believe it’s been 10 years.. my mom and little baby boy were in there.. rough memories
So happy you guys made it out safe. So scary
i'm really sorry for those people...:-(
As far as I heard, most houses are built to withstand up to 80 mph winds...sounds like any direct hit will destroy any wooden structure.

There's too much fish eye, it distorts the video too much.
It may have been pushed to the side during the clean-up process. Note the caution tape at 1:12.
I fly a Gaui 330X with a Gopro and I use Dragonlink on UHF, its range is 15+ miles, works real well closer in.

@SMIshroomery321 Sorry about the dentist noise. Normally I would add music, but that didn't seem appropriate given the nature of this story.

I'm planning to purchase the Dominator FPV goggles next. Seems appropriate to be using Dominator goggles while chasing behind the TVN Dominator.
Those people didn't look to happy about being watched.
I also use Right Hand Circular antennas and fly using Dominator FPV goggles.
Test flying?
Hardly a video showing the destruction path.... More of a video showing off a drone flying around...
man thank god or her own reaction to get in the bathroom and live another day! I hid under my rear porch steps. Thanks for telling me.
So sad.
that really sad
My grandparents almost died from this....
looks like one of those AR drones
I would be, too.
i watched this tornado from my back yard.
Its the drone from homefront!
