I have a feeling Sega made the three playable to give Frontiers modders more material to use. And/or perhaps to see if Sonic fans would want to play as someone other than Sonic again.

I was gonna plan to add those, but there were complications with porting the skybox sadly. I am considering readding it in the future.

I assume you played the gamecube version. Because i played this game on redream and it runs smoothly

That's probably because Knuckles doesn't have an animation for carrying little animals.
He doesn’t have an animation for holding the animals. When you let go of them he goes back to normal.
