They recieved grammys in totally different categories. She won "Best African Music performance." Awards are B.S. and i can never understand all the hype around them. That wasn't her first song she blew up with 'Getting late.' And that is irrelevant, i can name countless artists who blew up overnight, that's an internet phenomenon. The fact is that 'Water' went viral on tik tok because of the dance challenges. You might as well say all the major pop stars out there are "industry plants." You have to be at the right place at the right time.
@@DaughterofSarahisrealThat wasn't her first song. And Grammys is a stupid popularity contest with zero credibility i don't know why you people take them seriously! A grammy after 3 singles is wild. I get thatt she's talented but come on, there's alot of talented african artists who have been grinding way longer than her that dont have all of this. Tyla is an industry plant, argue with your dog.
That’s what I’ve been saying, but apparently yous a hater if you point that out. Nicki Minaj doesn’t even have a single Grammy, but I’m regards to African artists what about Ayrra Star? Tems? Burna boy? Never heard a bad song from him, Davido? All those people? Even Tiwa Savage who performed at the King Charles crowning ceremony would have made sense cause she’s literally performing for royalty 🤴 make it make sense 🤷♀️
It's basically become standard practice. What took, Beyonce, Whitney, Eminem, Jay-Z, etc. decades to be global sensations, take some artists less than a few months. Even the Organic route is manufactured. It's basically called skipping the line. They just pick someone like a product out of a freezer and say we can sell this.

Eh? Taylor Swift is a very big A list artist and a pop culture icon that's why she pops up in everyone's screen. Thats not because of marketing only. She has worked hard for more than a decade to achieve this status.
After hearing that she dated the producer and getting free studio time every week, and the promotions that came after, I understood everything that I needed to know.

from South Africa here, Tyla didn't grow organically, she has a big machine behind her, she was just a girl who made TikToks then all of a sudden she comes out with a High Budget MV and a song (Getting Late) and she already has a team (bare in mind she was still a new fresh upcoming artist). By this time she is already doing TV appearances in SA, performances in Africa and shoots. Thats very rare for an upcoming artist who is pushing their craft on their own and grinding, after only 2/3 singles she is now an International Pop Star, make it make sense, she got the push from someone powerful with connects and her success was not organic at all...South Africans only know Tyla now because of Water but they can't recall her career/music growth in SA because there was none...Girl went straight from an upcoming artist in SA to a Grammy winner in such a small space of time...she is a Plant, Tyla is a manufactured artist, she didn't hustle nor put her sweat; blood & tears into her career, it was literally handed to her.
@@Juan-ux5kx yes her looks play a really huge role in her success, but there are many talented artists in SA making great music but they are not pushed or given opportunities like Tyla, it's sad but her success will make it a bit easier for the upcoming artist in SA to break thru into the Western Market
@Lillyroot1 yeah sure but the problem is she is acting as if she has beeeeen in the industry grinding for her break thru, I'm from South Africa so I know that's not true because we didn't know her, she was not popular here in SA. Rihanna's career had growth, we watched her grow into who she is, she was not an overnight star, she had her battles like almost getting dropped from her label, the Beyonce comparisons, low sales but look at her now. There's nothing wrong with being Planted but don't lie and spread a false message that's it.
I think u just living under a rock Bru. I'd heard abt Tyla from Getting Late and followed up with the song she did for Blood & Water. Though her success is quite quick compared to most artist (esp from SA) it does not make her an industry plant. The music landscape is changing, including ways of getting discovered. Not to mention, you don't get anywhere without connections. Tyla has a really good team behind her and what they've been doing behind the scenes is finally off. Truth be told that Grammy actually belonged to Afrobeat African Artist Ayra Starr for "Rush. But I get the West's obsession with a more esthetically mulatto look. Ayra Starr is the true star, she has worked her way to the top when it comes to music and artistry
You're nigerian aren't you? Even ayra Starr screams industry plant. Look at tiwa and all her work she still isn't close to ayra Starr when it comes to achievements but she's been in the game before ayra Starr was born

@@Infinityintrigues276 the point is that there are many African artists that have worked harder and has way better music. Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, Tiwa savage, Wizkid etc. I don't think she should have won the Grammy because other African artist have more to show for yet she only won it because she started blowing up in the west. Most of us Africans, if u ask, don't like her music that much in comparison to other African artists. This is extremely unfair to all the extremely talented and hardworking artist out there who had to hustle from scratch to get where they are. This is not to say Tyla is not amazing. I love her. But, quite frankly, there were other African artists that deserved that Grammy. The sole fact that she won it shows how heavily underrepresented we are in the industry.
With Tyla, it’s a mix of labels really wanting to tap into the burgeoning global music market in Africa and good ol pretty privilege (I do think she’s def talented but let’s not ignore the elephant in the room, at least half of her marketability for brands and international audiences is her being breathtakingly gorgeous). Her songs are a nice blend of amapiano, afrobeats but with enough pop and R&B elements that make it digestible for western markets (mostly America). Her accent is also very minimal in her singing and music too, at least compared to when she’s speaking - probably by design. She’s got all the ingredients for global stardom as far as labels are concerned but we’ll see, time will indeed tell.

Yes not only to him but look at all these older men on her team….she definitely gave it to all of them or most of them to be where she is…that why at a tender age of 21 she is busy singing about having an orgasm in great detail(water song)
One thing I dislike about American media as a South African is that it can be very toxic, especially for young ladies... Even though I'm happy for her, but at the same time, I'm worried about her and wish she never did got exposed to American media like that.
girl is so unprofessional she just cancelled and delayed her tour last min till today there’s no talk about the delayed tickets and the people haven’t gotten there money back and everyone keeps ignoring
Industry plant doesn't mean she's not talented. She just has a team pushing her music on all the digital platforms, which is fine, but in her interviews she acts like she's a big hit back home. Before "water", Tyla wasn't a well-known artist like Shekhinah. South Africans who claim otherwise on the internet are being disingenuous. Her team strategically marketed a "colored" girl in a place where the term is derogatory to create commotion and get people talking. Black/Colored South Africans would never allow that. It would be all day trolls for that artist.
it's not just a team pushing her. It's the way that the team pushes her, and how much the team invests in her compared to other artists, that are signed with them or other labels. Tyla basically had nothing going for herself compared to other artists, and then suddenly a big record label signed her and invested in her as if she had something already. I don't know what coloured has to do with it. It looks more like they really want to repeat what Jay-Z achieved with Rihanna. Foreign girl, pretty, cute accent, etc.
She's a plant, just because you're popular overseas doesnt mean you're gonna be a breakthrough in the US market. And have a grammy of a mid tiktok song.

Basically, every pop artist is an industry plant. Labels will find young teenage girls and hook them up with producers, voice coaches, photographers, fashion designers, choreographers, etc and develop them into stars. It's basically a ‘free money glitch’ for them. They spend like 100k on a random high schooler and they get the next Ariana Grande who will make 100 million. Even if you do this with 5 girls and only one of them blows up, your profits are still massive. People need to realize that the industry is basically just 5 large corporations fighting over the market, the audience can be manipulated just like the stock market.
It's sad because the majority of Africans in Africa don't look like her. TEMS rose organcally, SHE is our star, as is Ayra Starr. Just couldn't let a purely African (not mixed) woman be that girl but we big up each other. F a grammy!

It's all about social media trends now. She's famous for a viral dance, shaking her arse and pouring water on it. She tried to replicate that with her next song, but people have short attention spans. That's why she had to cancel her tour. Her fanbase is a bunch of fickle Tik-Tok addicts, not genuine music fans.
Do we, as a society, have a standardised definition for this term "industry plant"? Because we keep attaching it to people who have been very successful, but that doesn't make any sense. As far as I can tell, she's a beautiful girl with a great body and a lovely voice, who was lucky enough to catch the attention of the right people. They knew how to work their connections, influence & expertise. She has the perfect rags to riches story, she seems genuine in interviews and she's charismatic. A lot had to go right for her to make it, and a lot of luck was absolutely involved, but that doesn't make her career inauthentic or disingenuous in any way, nor does it negate the hard work she's put in.

Unpopular Opinion: I think Rihanna is an industry plant. She has the talent of Nelly Furtado and pretty average beauty. Nothing about her rise to fame makes sense. A talent show with her voice? I'm not even a Beyonce fan but when they call Beyonce a plant, I just always wonder why Rihanna is so immune to the drama that plagues other artists. She was marketed as a DV survivor but she's actually a DV abuser along with Chris but did not get the same treatment because he went too far. Multiple women in the industry who are known to be very kind have been bullied by Rihanna. They've spoken out about it but it was muted. We have stars being dragged for being bullies in their past and forced to address it but she doesn't address it. When she was dating the Prince, she tried putting her hands on him. Then the media scrubbed her image. But we all somehow know about Solange though. Rihanna is also known for making so many foundation shades but there was already Pat McGrath. Many users in the Beauty side of RUclips say that while Fenty has many shades, it's not balanced. Pat McGrath wasn't as rich but she was doing something for black girls while not selling her brand. Then Rihanna's brand became big and is owned 50% by LVMH with several white hands in it. Business woman? Beyonce gets so much shade for being the cause of destroying other women's careers but all those women weren't put aside for Beyonce, it was for Rihanna. Rihanna's hair styles were chosen for her but she now says those were her choices for her hair brand. Her clothes were chosen for her, but she's a creative for her clothing brand. This woman was the PERFECT candidate. Jay-Z kind of knew it halfway through but Rihanna's label saw it first. She performed on stage with Amerie and even if Beyonce said something, she still wasn't better than Amerie. Rihanna's rise is so suspicious. Tyla was an artist in South Africa already before American fame. She went viral in America and essantially around the World. Way more popular than Burna Boy. Also the academy was trying to save themselves from critism after they elected the white band for reggae and Jamaicans were in uproar. Tyla was a safe choice. Industry plant? I don't think she fits the name. Unlike Rihanna, she can sing, dance and has charisma. She wants to be the idols she saw growing up. She's very similar to Beyonce. She's actually the Justin Bieber of this decade. Social media helps those who have the full package.

The idea of an ‘ Industry Plant’ suggests someone has been selected to have a career crafted for that artist. It defeats the idea that an artist has crafted or honed their own talent and image so well or so succinctly that a music executive took notice. Therefore, you could easily say all recording artists are industry plants.

actually no. We hardly see artists with that type of story. Most major artists have to work for years and brand themselves until they get a machine. Look at Doja Cat. I ended up making a dope mix with the two songs (With the Getting Late video). At the time she was said to be SA's Ariana Grande coz she's pretty, petite and sings more soprano/high pitch. So me who didn't even listen to her genre of music in general has known about her since 2019. I can only imagine how much longer her actual fans have been knowing about her. And with America know finding anything African to be cool and new, Afro beats is blowing up there too. Feel bad for Shomajozi coz I also watched her rise. The young artist is also taken advantage of here, cos everything will be about how lucky should be to be in your position. The term is not aimed at the talent but the machine that consistently screws over artists. I’d be surprised if she made it past sho madjozi.
@@D0tc0mbeatzwhat you describe is "payola" an industry plant is an artist who claims to be independent but is backed by a label. she never claimed to be an independent artist.
Her song was amazingly catchy. She has something special. I don’t think she’s a plant, she had the connections and got her great hit! She’s doing her job.
@@pikapi6993 Well, when someone signs to a record label, each artist is judged on their ability to sell albums and be marketable. If an artist benefits from being marketable, they’ve succeeded at their job. They are given the resources to succeed but if people like their records and music, how does that make them a plant? Ultimately, listeners make songs go viral and make it a hit on the charts. The people choose whose hot and whose not. Rihanna is highly marketable. She struggled in the beginning of her career until she got a huge hit record with her third album. There have been other artists who can’t sale albums and can’t find a hit record but were given the resources.
I believe because she has the look, and she’s young fresh and new, it put her up on the charts. I finally got a chance to sit with her project and I have to say I didn’t skip one song. She’s something special. Let’s hope the fire last.

And further proof that shes a plant, they chose the most racially ambiguous type of South African... which is very American
No way, Rihanna may not be a good live singer or dancer but what she lacks in that is personality and intrigue. There is something about Rihanna that attracts people. Tyla is boring, her looks are her main claim to fame. Tyla does not have that same effect that Rihanna does.
Good is subjective. I think her music is bad. She can't even sing. She has to use autotune all over her song but there isn't even any vocals. No crazy belts, no head voice. Nothing. Just her talk singing.
@@rapuniverze2998 Disrespectful? 💀 You realize that the music business is a business right? They aren't looking for who put the most work in, they are looking for who can generate the most revenue. I’m a South African and I’d never even heard of her before I saw her on an American talk show. Based on what we now know about how the American music and film industry works, it’s safe to assume that she slept with at one powerful and connected person in the industry.
Then you were living under a rock cause "Getting Late" played like everyday on Trace and MTV base when it came out! And that song was on high rotation on radio
I think you stated it perfectly, she has a great team behind her they believe in her and they are going to push for her to be successful. On top of the she is talented, she’s pretty, great personality and she’s young and the industry like them young so they can take advantage of you and you be so grateful they gave you the opportunity you don’t stop to question it until it’s too late and they’ve made millions off you.
I don't think she's a plant I just think she can't help she has what it takes sing, dance, personality, good looks, body, photogenic I mean she has all the qualities to blow up fast
It’s ridiculous to think that any global star really “comes out of nowhere” in this day and age. Maybe they get that initial foot in the door out of nowhere, but it always takes a team to shoot videos, set up appearances, connect with more well-known stars, arrange tours, etc. That’s what the music industry is all about. And as for her young age, many Grammy winners have been younger than 22. Plus Tyla won the Grammy for Best African Music Performance, a category tailor-made for her performance. I’m sure that award was in the works for some time, and was a product of an industry-wide effort to promote more African pop artists. Finally, Tyla isn’t the first young, beautiful, ambitious female singer (or actress) to date or even marry an industry insider who helps her career. Sometimes unscrupulous insiders will exploit such ambition in unsavory ways (see R. Kelly, for example). But other times it’s a genuine relationship between two people with common interests and ambitions. Sometimes it’s even a young male artist who forms a relationship with an older female industry insider, although that’s far less common.
Overall, she is a industry plant. She never was underground. And she was instantly picked to be pushed by record label. The definition of an industry plant. That’s all it really means.
Ok so here is my take. The job of a label/team is to get you in front of as many people as possible, make you a star as the saying goes. So honestly, it makes sense that she is being forcefully pushed on us (notice that RUclips posts about her CONSTANTLY). It's just that she and her team lying about how she rose to fame turns some people off. They pretend she was just your average, starry-eyed tiktok girl who happened to go viral by chance. From a stricly business perspective, it's a good marketing strategy. But on a deeper level, it builds false hope to others, making them think all you need is talent and a lucky viral moment....when in reality even "viral" moments are plotted by labels. It can damage the self-esteem of so many who will wonder why they just can't seem to captivate others and go viral the way Tyla has despite being just as (if not more) talented, beautiful, and charismatic. When in reality Tyla had the same looks, charisma, and talent she has now but couldn't go viral and was largely ignored by the GP before the backing of industry giants. Back in the day we used to be aware ppl like Rihanna were manufactured and helped. That's not the case anymore which is very toxic and why industry plants are not liked.
One thing I've noticed about this industry and fame, is that people want new trending people. Eventually most of these current top celebs and artists will be forgotten about. This doesn't last for that long. But tyla is young and talented. God gave her those gifts but she went to the wrong industry to promote her songs and to give her fame and money. That industry will destroy her. Shes gonna witness the truth about that industry
Lowkey agree with this cause now everyone is making videos and stuff talking about how some of them turned down a contract approach for recognition but the contract contains very odd and suspicious details of what they basically going to do to like make you a big presence to the world. The puppet industry (music industry) is just a massive no because they have very sinister things going on there. Don't know how and don't know why but something is off about these artists who just instantly blow up.

The point of a record label is what Epic records are doing for Tyla which is promote tf out of her music. so people saying her label put her in the industry, isnt that what labels are for?
You'd think that. But labels sign dozens of people and do nothing with them. Tyla's treatement is very rare and unique. Only few artists got that without having something going for themselves on a lower budget.

F a grammy!

She tried to replicate that with her next song, but people have short attention spans. That's why she had to cancel her tour. Her fanbase is a bunch of fickle Tik-Tok addicts, not genuine music fans.
I love Tyla she's an amazing dancer and singer too, I've known her since "Getting Late"
She definitely has talent
no she a tweaker with a good voice.
Well said @thecavalieryouth! Even if she is a plant she's got what it takes to succeed. You can plant somebody but you can't push society to like their music. So plant or not, she's definitely going places!!! Her drive and determination are out if this world.

Yup, atleast Beyonce can sing but Rihanna's live vocals are so plain you can tell she got there by sucking the right D's and being pretty lol.

I was watching the movie "Juice" at the time on my PC and then as I played the song, the intro to Juice started playing at the same time (Coz that's how the movie starts).
@Despicable_Gamerwow Nicki doesn’t have a Grammy! Never new
It’s ridiculous to think that any global star really “comes out of nowhere” in this day and age.

4:16 Sho Madjozi on her way to diss Tyla right now:
All I heard was marshmallow n I knew exactly what this was ifykyk
I actually don't like her song "Water". I don't see the big deal about it.
Yeaaah.. Overrated
Am from S.A. that's our girl she's shows you her morals but stop stepping on her toes.. then believe me you'll plant your seeds somewhere else..give her the credit she don't need to explain her everytime she's born a artist and plz don't compare her to anyone else she's unique she Tyla our gettto girl✌️
@@pikapi6993 Epic records chose to make tyla their biggest artist. Their new leading star. SO big money, big lobbying, big partnerships. The girl is talented and has a big machine behind her. While SA artists who are as talended as her do not have the same investment. Thats why people think she is an industry plant.
Artist pray day and night to have the blessing of the team she got, so their careers could also go like.. Ppl are just bitter, cos she was blessed with ppl who believed in her talent
Industry plant where?? The star quality and uber sex appeal is undeniable. Stevie Wonder could see that! This girl is the sh*t
doesn't change the fact that she's an industry plant. The label chose her precisely because of her marketability.
0:21 That streaming goof ball 😂
blaming the industry is crazy work considering most of these artist would trade sexual favors for opportunity
she got lucky met the right people and had some songs written for her the story of most pop stars tbf
I enjoyed your documentary! the style, flow and voice. Are you a RUclips plant too. Just joking. Great work.
I love your editing style
