    I just stumbled across your channel and this series, and just finished binge watching the entire series. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. I've been spending too much money lately on books, and you've inspired me to spend more money. I might need a larger house so I have more room for book cases. 🙂 Thank you for all the recommendations!!

    I love the Carlingford Chronicles. Thanks for highlighting Mrs Oliphant. I also enjoyed The Doctor's Family short story. My favorite in the series is The Perpetual Curate (another good one for the religious theme). For Victober "extras" I'm reading The Mystery of Mrs. Blencarrow and maybe Queen Eleanor and Fair Rosamund (they're in the same Persephone volume). And thanks for highlighting Felix Holt--it's one of the 2 Eliot novels I haven't read (along with Romola); now you've convinced me to read "Radical Politics" first :)

      I have that edition of The Mystery of Mrs. Blencarrow and Queen Eleanor and Fair Rosamund. They're both really good!

    Ohhh you've sold me on them all! I own Felix already and was afraid of it when I learned it was political.

    A Very Happy Victober to you ! I couldn't agree more, this is the most wonderful time of the year. So many Victorian novels I've never read, and am finding the more I read this time period, the more I love it. Off I go to order "Felix Holt, The Radical" and "The Rector" Thanks so much for your passion in sharing these reads !

    You’re the reason I have several Charlotte Riddell books downloaded from Project Gutenberg Elizabeth! I just need to get to them. I love the Carlingford Chronicles, will you be doing a stand alone Margaret Oliphant video, your favorites or a ranking?

      @elizabethaliteraryprincess  3 месяца назад +2

      Yay! I hope you enjoy them! I think I might do a video on Oliphant later this month. Probably not a ranking (I feel like I haven't read enough of her 98 books to do that lol), but maybe some kind of author spotlight discussing her life and a few of her major works.

    Thank you for the recommendations 😃 Especially the first one because I was dying to get my hands on more spooky Victorian literature!
    Felix Holt has been on my radar for a good while now. I read Romola in early 2023, and although I had some issues with the Romola-Savonarola storyline, my overall experience with the book was a positive one so I wanted to read more Eliot and FH sounded quite interesting. Are there any topics in particular that you would recommend researching before I pick it up?
    Happy first day of Victober

      I'm glad you enjoyed! You may want to read a bit about the Reform Act of 1832 before picking up Felix, but I don't think it's entirely necessary. The only things I knew about it came from the novel's introduction.

    Happy Victober! I haven't read any of these but I already downloaded the free version of Felix Holt and The Rector on my Kindle. I haven't read any Eliot yet, do you think this could be a good one to start with her? Thank you!

    • @elizabethaliteraryprincess
      @elizabethaliteraryprincess  3 месяца назад +1

      I usually recommend The Mill on the Floss or Silas Marner, but I don't think Felix would be a bad place to start with Eliot as long as it sounds interesting to you. It does give you a good feel for some of what she does in Middlemarch, just with less of the length and better pacing haha.

    Is Carlingford and Barsetshire alike? I've read Barsst, but am very interested in reading your girl.

      Yes they have a very similar feel! And you can actually see places where Oliphant was influenced by Trollope, particularly in the last book, Phoebe Junior.
