Although currently Sedans don't have market share, but Sedans will have market in India.. it will definitely bounce back. In my opinion people in India (mostly first time buyers) currently just wants to buy a car by appearance and SUVs seems to appeal them a lot. However, after several years, they will understand what car really means. They will start thinking about Driving dynamics, handling, performance, space etc. A few portion of people are slowly realising that these SUVs are nothing but jacked up Hatch backs. When people start thinking about a car beyond just road presence and appearance, I'm sure they will start considering sedans as they are more suited in these aspects. I've always been a Sedan lover and proud owner (Honda City 5th Gen. Earlier we had Maruti Suzuki Esteem). I never liked these pseudo SUVs. And ofcourse Sedans are more attractive in terms of looks, driving dynamics and performance. ❤
Somehow I feel the same. That it is only hype. Marketing hype! RUclips hype! People are falling for these ballooned hatchbacks. Real SUVs mean it’s a 4X4 where FWD cars are sold as SUVs, pseudo suv! The sedans might have lost their market share however it’s not completely forgotten! It will come back. Hatchbacks will never die!
Took a big risk and bought the new Verna. Whether it was a better choice than the City/Slavia/Virtus is a difficult topic. But I don't think anyone who has driven a sedan - and someone who isn't bothered about the "trend"/"bhir bhaad" - would want to drive anything else! Sheer driving pleasure.
Slavia, Virtus and Verna are quite lengthy. Compact sedans like Dzire, Amaze and the now discontinued Ford Aspire make more sense in view of practicality, parking space at homes and outside. Unfortunately, car companies are just thrusting their SUVs in market. There is no choice left for compact sedans for people.
I have Ford Aspire Diesel running since 6 years. My avg driving approx 1000 kms/m, it is absolute pleasure to drive aspire diesel. Super pick up, good mileage and low maintenance cost. Unfortunately I have to sell the car due to Govt restrictions on diesel cars in NCR region, but unable to select any car yet which match my aspire driving experience. Still searching :)
In my opinion 50% of Indian car buyers give more weightage to low cost of ownership and resale value more than the driving dynamics of any car. This is the reason why Maruti continues to lead the market even after 35 years of it's operation though it's market share has come down. Used car markets in India will always have buyers as people will continue to upgrade to cars from 2 wheelers and not all of them will have the means to buy a brand new car. Unless the government comes down very heavily and restricts the life span of vehicles with compulsory scrapping after some years of registration this market will always be there and even vehicles of companies that have folded up in the recent past will continue to sell albeit at a lower cost compared to others. Take a look at the display of any used car dealer and you will definitely find some models which were discontinued or from companies that folded up and left India. People can expect to resell their car of any make but not at 50% of the price they paid when they bought it new.
Because we are not financially that much sound like western people. Future generations will suffer even more worst because of ever increasing population and competition to survive. Thats why don’t waste your hard earned money on fuel and expensive cars , instead save it for your future generations
Please do not create resale panic.
Bilkul sahi baat bhaisaab. I have a M-800 (5G) since 2001 and it's still going strong. Waise mera dusra car bhi hai jo hai Honda Mob (2015). I certainly have no intension to sell my both cars even if they are not allowed to run on Road due to Nitin Gadkari's Scrap Policy. They'll be in my Garage if required.
Biggest mistake of Renault and NIssan was to go with 1000 cc engine. 1200 engine would have got them more buyers. Even with a turbo engine on some models, crawling performance (bumper to bumper traffic) is poor. It only pick up after 1600 rpm
I agree, Renault and Nissan's decision to go with a 1000 cc engine instead of a 1200 cc engine seems to have been a mistake. The smaller engine size affects crawling performance in bumper-to-bumper traffic, with noticeable pickup only after 1600 rpm. A slightly larger engine could have attracted more buyers and provided a better driving experience. Hopefully, they take this feedback into account for future models.
What's wrong with Trend? Something is not looking stable or clear, either in govt. policy or consumer choices. Both are not predictable thus goods companies have no choice to quit. Sad
You seem to be a Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra supporter. We buy cars for safety, to live... Not to sell. VW, Jeep, Tata, Skoda are solidly built cars.... They save people's lives... Are you joking? Asking to buy a 1 star swiff car?
Sedans owners need not worry about the stats. They are a different breed. We buy sedans for comfort and drive experience. For bad roads there are alternatives like the mighty spresso SUV 😁 aedans get lots of slack for ground clearance but it doesnt mean 1 car for all terrains. SUV sales are so high because everyone still riding high on the SUV wave. Show of social status is the reason for SUV wave. Most SUV are not even worthy of the tag
Sedan owners should know that in USA sedans market share is around 20%. Roads are not bad there, still SUVs outsell sedans. There must be something good in SUVs. Think...
Gov said that we would get at least 40% discount on buying EV cars was just a Julma 😂EV car produce more carbon emissions in comparison to petrol and diesel cars. Even Battery is the more hazardous ⚠️ if people switch to EV electricity ⚡️ prices may rise as seen in CNG case it was 40 rs pr kg now it’s somewhere near petrol price 😂
in Future (now started) you can convert your old car to electric car, then sedan has high probability to have more battery packs in boot, because of that more mileage can be achieved
There is also a possibility that Sedans may comeback after 4-5 years who knows what future has in store. Right now roads are flooded with Heel wali Hatchbacks aka Compact SUVs. Soon people will get bored with them. Also in EVs, range is very important and a good aerodynamic Sedan has the best chance to extract maximum range from battery.
@terrybatman Sedans were more popular than SUVs before 2012. It was the launch of Duster in 2012, followed by Ecosport and Brezza. That made SUVs popular. And that trend continued to gain more momentum. While roads are getting better every year. If it was roads that were forcing people to go for SUVs, the situation would have been completely opposite, SUVs popular initially and Sedans getting popular every year as roads got better. Also this SUV trend is universal not just limited to India.
among hatchbacks and sub 4m sedans, I still feel they have good resale value if you're buying from Maruti Suzuki. Also, I feel some of these car manufacturers are introducing updates way too late. I currently have a Tata Marina Diesel that is well maintained and running but age has caught up with the car. I personally am a fan of Renault because of the Duster and I had wanted to buy the Triber but the Triber has been crying out for the engine update that hasn't happened till now.
What about MG astor? At what price we can consider for buying a 2022 top model car. Or Also, please suggest at what price we can consider Tata Harrier disel 2022 model.
Resale value of the vehicles depends on many factors including their maintenance cost, after market parts availability, fuel consumption, reliability. Sedans or SUVs are choices of people. If we just take as an example Polo, Swift, H-city has better resale value than Xuv500, Duster, Eco sports etc. People made choice of buying the so called SUV's because of the road conditions, If we have proper roads in place Sedans are ultimately the best driving experience with comfort.
I don’t care so much about resale. I have a Škoda Kushaq and I bought it because it fits my needs and desires from my car. I keep my cars well and for a long time. Buy a car depending upon what fits your requirements. Not because it’s the best seller or has highest resale!
Sir I am glad that you have really come out bold and speak the truth , our govts is certainly make diesel cars i.e. even 2021 models , I personally owned , as a villian 100% true. Even OEMs who are selling let it likes " Hyundai" there sales guy " areh sir aj kal diesel kon leta hai wo bhi delhi mai - he said sir gaadi book hogi apke liye ayegi sirf , ap gaadi ko dekh nahi sakte .....duh !! Is it a crime that you are asking for diesel car ?? These days yes it is , because wrong campaining , lie about being more polluted to environment even after BS6 Phase 2 RDE . Let me ask the govt - where u dispose EV batteries ?? It is the earth surface only , it is even more harmfull than gasolines , it contains deadly elements like lithium alloys etc In our country the whole auto sector is at a serious pressure by NGT and govts who are passing stupid laws and guidelines.
If you love your car and if its like a family member then the resale Value doesn't mean anything, moreover nothing can replace the class and status of a Sedan
Someone who is ready to trade their and their loved one's life for a better resale value in the future should definitely go ahead and take the plunge to get themselves a Maruti. We owned Multiple marutis back in the days but never again unless they have a proper safe car.
Indian road conditions require off road capable vehicles, and high ground clearance and road presence. Sedans are not a practical option for most Indians.
Very true. Otherwise, sedans are always better than SUVs. I own sedan and everytime it hits the speedbreaker or potholes, My mind says " SUV leni chahiye thi yaar"
Respected sir . kindly try to drive ford and Chevrolet cars they are fun to drive. Indian car making company cannot make cars like them .ford and Chevrolet cars are the beast in the market...
Except the video is not regarding whether these vehicles with low sales and the vehicles from companies who have left India are bad. It's about how they have low resale value because of their low sales. For many people in India, resale is an important criteria for the simple reason that a middle class family is going to use that resale amount as a down payment for their next car. If that is not a certain buyer's criteria, then they can simply go for whatever car they like - Jeep/VW/Skoda etc.
I have a few comments, and my car enthusiast friends (and the experts) are free to correct me if i am wrong. Firstly, when we say Indians are buying SUVs, it is not true. We are not buying SUVs, but only hatchbacks that have been raised. 2ndly, many amongst us are much concerned about 'average'. I hardly notice people buying a car based on safety. No one asks kitne airbags hain? ABS, ESC, TPMS, Impact Sensing Door Lock... yeh sab toh koi puuctaa hi nahin, in India.
I also read people wanting to buy a raised hatchback (sold to us as SUV) saying Indian roads are bad. But is that not a story of the past!! Most roads we travel are OK roads, highways too are pretty smooth. Haan potholes etc hain, but unke liye I will not buy a Scorpio N. Plus, how often would you go to Leh or Ladakh! Aap delhi se Shimla jayen, Katra, Dharamshala, Nainital, Binsar, or even Goa, the roads are fine for a good, comfy Sedan.
@@rajeshkhanna7036 What you are saying sounds good but isn’t really true. Firstly, a lot of people nowadays buy car based on safety. They also like mileage yes, but now most people value safety and car sales reflects that. They might not know what complex safety systems are but everyone asks for how many airbags there are, whether the car has ABS or not. Second, buying SUVs is not a recent trend. It’s always been like that. People used to buy Innova and Fortuner, Safari, Scorpio earlier also. Now the number has increased because these are the only options left. Sedans kitni kam hogayi hain ab. Civic, Elantra, Sonata, Accord, Skoda Laura, Octavia, Superb, Jetta, Passat, Corolla Altis, Prius, Hyundai Accent, Kizashi, SX4, Renault Fluence, Nissan Sunny aur bhi kitni saari. Jab bikengi hi bas SUVs toh log wahi toh lenge bhai.
Models like Magnite, Kiger , Punch , Venue , Nexon are also called "SUV"s . What most people look for in a vehicle is Sunroof in a hot humid and dusty country like India so that they can stick their necks out when the vehicle is running at 100kmph to take selfies without knowing how unsafe that is.
Owning black Mitsubishi Pajero Sport MT 4X4 2016, crossed 1.5lac kms. Still running as new! First enjoy every paisa of your money invested in your car you dreamt of owning one. Worrying about resale before purchase is stupidity! One sells, other buys - that's a cycle!
Well, a car is not something which one can buy like grocery. There are limited people and money, of course units of cars sold will depend on how many people don't own a car.
While buying a car below were my preferences 1. Milage 2. Features 3. Space inside and in boot 4. Infotainment system. I did a very thorough research and took many test drives (altroz, Fronx, i20, slavia, city, creta, venue, Nexon and hyundai verna.) While there was no perfect car the best value for money I found was hyundai verna. Ride quality and peace of mind was in sedan segment. Space and milage was also in sedan segment only. While I made a conscious and good decision of going with sedan, I did not care to think about resale value. Most of the Indians love their car and do not sell them in 2-3 years. I am also a very proud owner of 2011 model hyundai i10 which I denied to exchange while buying new car.
Yes indeed, you are wrong about elevate. It's spacious, not a,4 meter small, equipped with very good ivtech engine. Honda's reliability very decent nvh. It's late but going to be better. 220 MM GC, more spacious than creta or saltos for that matter. 2650 Wheelbase would make spacious and comfortable
Very well said my friend about Honda Elevate. This brand Honda is now full of Bird Brains in their corporate office wether Marketing or sales or design team. They have reduced the company and the brand name to garbage.
I had to cancel my booking with the dealership because they were imposing exorbitant charges. Despite my attempts to negotiate, they postponed the delivery until after Dashera. Unfortunately, I couldn't accept the delayed delivery because I was traveling from Karnataka to Maharashtra, and Maharashtra's BH numberplate requirement further complicated the situation. I booked the car back in may 2023 with dealership. I was in top 5 persons.
It is high time, Honda should make a turbo petrol engine in India!! Why does the best engine maker of world, shy of 'make in india'? If maruti can make 'Engine' in India, WHY HONDA/TOYOTA Can't???
I booked a Toyota Hyryder v variant on 1st October 22. I was promised to deliver the car on April 23, But till now I don't get the car. The price is going too high day to day, now it's 20L (ex showroom). What should I do?

Sir, What is your opinion about the future of VW and Skoda Car company because I am intending to buy a sedan because of built quality. Secondly, what is the future of diesel cars in India as it has been recommended to government to ban diesel Car's from 2027 onwards and therefore,is it worth buying a diesel Car. Thirdly, if VW and Skoda leave the country then what is the option for those Indians who prefer 5 star GNCAP rated Cars?

SUVs are the preference because of deteriorating quality of roads and super high speed breakers everywhere breaking every rule and norms laid down by the transport department.
People don’t buy VW, Skoda , Jeep or Merc etc not to resell. In India still kitna deti hai mentality prevails. These are premium cars and there is set of customers who will buy these not all. For people like us Maruti & Hyundai are good where smaller cars are produced in lakhs. Let’s not compare premium cars with Maruti etc.
Second hand cars owners prefer low maintenance and fuel efficiency. Maruti and Hyundai are the two companies many prefer to buy. Safety, pickup, comfort these points are for fnew car buyers or people who look at upgrading their cars.
To be frank my brother have VW polo 2012 model its very difficult to get cars part easily compare to my uncle have WagonR of same year having less maintenance and also spare parts are easily available. may be new VW skoda have some economically good service but for old cars service cost make big hole in pocket
If you buy a new car while thinking about the price you will get when you sell it, then you wouldn't appreciate quality or a good car. Good luck to such people.
All cars you recommended not to buy are actually the best cars in segment for safety, technology, drive ability, power to weight ratio and mileage..but people like you will propose only dabbas and loha.. people like you are worried for resale the moment they buy car.. enjoy the car, you have bought for yourself and use it for minimum 10 years before thinking for sale. But obvious you will suggest to buy Dabbas and Lohas because these will function only for 3 to 5 years.. 😂😂
I am planning to buy a new car , I am planning for i20 N line or venue sx manual 1.2L , which one you suggest in terms of resell + as a first car owning prospective ?
Bro i have owned, venue turbo imt Pros - Good performance, light steering in city Cons- don't expect more than 12kmpl, a little push on the pedal then it will be in single digits, space is not that great.

One point which is totally against what you are saying: Celerio and ignis top models are beyond 8.5 and 9.5 respectively. Anyone wishing to buy a car in 5 lakh is gonna buy a second hand car and if they want anything relatively new then these would sell If u go to any second hand cars site like spinny, truebil and true value..there are no cars under 5lakh which stay for more than a week or 2 and gets booked
Maruti’s sale are always high as most of the buyers are first time buyers and also fleet owners… plus cars are mass produced due to increased demand and to top it safety compromised to tackle price quotient which frankly is a stupidity… brands like Skoda, Volkswagen they don’t want that sheep herd approach they know which customer would buy their cars. Consumer’s who want reliability, better handling dynamics, safety they would go for Skoda, Volkswagen. Tata even though have better cars their sales experience is not upto the mark..

Magnite is best VFM car in the segment. Kiger also good car . But 72bhp is too less . Most indian doesnt prefer turbo engine.
Nope. It's Indian roads which are forcing folks to go to suv.
Jaise Indian roads Ka haalat ho rahe hain, tractor segment will be mainstream in 5-10 years down the line.
among hatchbacks and sub 4m sedans, I still feel they have good resale value if you're buying from Maruti Suzuki. Also, I feel some of these car manufacturers are introducing updates way too late. I currently have a Tata Marina Diesel that is well maintained and running but age has caught up with the car. Thanks to such trends we get sedans with all the Sedan benefit with minimal waiting😊.
Sedan car are for smart people... practical cars, comfortable, best boot space, and attractive interiors plus milage
What about Congusted Traffic, in cities sadan are useless. It is better to buy compact SUV... all rounder cars.

These days yes it is , because wrong campaining , lie about being more polluted to environment even after BS6 Phase 2 RDE .
Let me ask the govt - where u dispose EV batteries ?? It is the earth surface only , it is even more harmfull than gasolines , it contains deadly elements like lithium alloys etc
In our country the whole auto sector is at a serious pressure by NGT and govts who are passing stupid laws and guidelines.
Skoda and Volkswagen is league apart, cannot be compared.
If you love your car and if its like a family member then the resale Value doesn't mean anything, moreover nothing can replace the class and status of a Sedan
Never gonna sell my Compass. It is true that less than 0.5% people in India have the IQ to understand why Jeep is a Jeep.

Yes

He speaks facts. Genuine information. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge.
Sedans attracts me more than SUV or Hatchbacks. Well I'm in a wait and watch mode right now. Although City Hybrid is disturbing my mind.
sedan segment is depleting due to bad road conditions in City ... Highways are also not very good everywhere.
While buying a car below were my preferences
1. Milage
2. Features
3. Space inside and in boot

For people like us Maruti & Hyundai are good where smaller cars are produced in lakhs. Let’s not compare premium cars with Maruti etc.
