I love new cars and rv’s! Luckily I live a debt free life and recently paid cash for a $55,000 car. But I constantly like change when it comes to vehicles. My wife is helping me understand we should already be grateful for what we have when it comes to vehicles.
Overcoming the mindset that money is bad/evil. I strongly associate money with exploitation and capitalism, but it's a tool of value exchange. I need to learn to be comfortable giving and recieving money in life.
I like how ryan nicodemus had said "anger is a symptoms of a broken expectations" I totally agree on him 110% he has a point in every aspect in your life
I think Ramit changed me and my husbands life in retirement, I was 34 and after listening to his book I opened a Roth IRA for both of us and have been maxing them out since, thank you
I have a group of friends I do things with, letters A - F. I'm A and I live off a small pension and some savings. Letters D, E, and F are all millionaires. E and F don't flaunt it; however, letter D has no problem showing off and bragging. Interestingly, letter D seems to be the least happy of our group even though they have their house in Tucson and a summer place in the White Mountains, along with an RV, flying first class, taking cruises, etc. While I'm the poorest financially, since I took up minimalism I'm the happiest because I don't have all the material possessions everyone else is tied down to. Letter D claims not to be materialistic but in my opinion, they continue to buy more stuff that clutters up their house. I'm content with the contents of my life.
Learning to live today. Be present and be mindful in life. Mindful financially. For me my childhood trauma has held me back from doing what I wanted. I lived for everyone else but myself. Reparenting and changing my beliefs is key. It takes time and I know I need help. I have a therapist and other people working on my recovery. I am not alone.
always get something from every podcast, this was another great one. (so glad this one didn’t include, say it with me everyone, advertisements suck, LOL)
Regarding “what am I saving for?” I save for three things (1) common worst case scenarios in an emergency fund, (2) aging/retirement, (3) Vacation. The emergency fund is prepped for 6 months of bare min expenses, and can be used for car repairs, house repairs, law bills, doctor’s bills, being unemployed or sick, etc - the bigger, more expensive things that can go wrong in life. Then I stop and use the money. Same will go for retirement - once I get too old to work I can stop and use the money. I have a separate fund I just started I call the “stay at home with my kids” fund, where o can extend maternity leave for a year to be with kids. Honestly these are all things other countries get included in being a citizen but in the US you gotta figure it out on your own so here I am lol
I’ve modified a few of my money behaviors- 1) what I spend on boating and getting out on the water (my little Whaler runabout, my boatlift, paddleboards, fishing, Adirondack guideboat, etc); and 2) food when dining out- I mentioned that to my daughter-in-law but she cautioned me that my 9-yr-old grandson needs limits- he can’t order the lobster, the prime rib, the tuna appetizer because he’s already too privileged, etc. I get that. But she needed to tell me!
i've heard ramit discuss bringing kids into some financial decision making at the level they're at. for example relating to the restaurant example, let them know where you're going to eat then give them a menu and budget. tell them what you'll have and help them decide the range of things they can pick. this won't work for every-day but maybe once a month an exercise this can help both of ya.
The reason i save is to buy a house for my family. I did not have ever one, and i struggle for it All my life...i Just feel like ,my big dream is to open my eyes in The morning waiting to go in my garden ,whithout worring about The rent 😅❤
Home ownership is not always cheaper than renting. You'll still have to pay the mortgage, property tax, insurance, repairs. Of course it allows you more freedom over what you do with the house but it won't always save you money
Does it never occur to anyone who has more than they will ever need, to make more to have more to GIVE AWAY? If you have more than you will ever need, your JOB here is spread that Univeral Abundance. After all- it's NOT really Your money- it has come from, and should be recirculated to, the Universe. So enjoy your abundance, and lovingly give away the rest.
That’s why I want to be wealthy one day! I want to be able to buy a church building for a growing church or a car for a single mother, help fund someone’s adoption! Giving is the most fun you can have with money!
That is exactly how I see it. I am not wealthy but I am blessed with nice house and big garden. I dont wish to have more and if I had more money I would seek to do some good with it for others.
Saving to purchase a home and quiet/lovely vacations, and university for my child. . Agree, watch every penny for some items... When on vacation I want to not worry about cost.
Being financially is great in a lot of ways, but don’t let it consume you. Now that I have money, I can let go of dumb purchases. Just recently I bought ticket for a flight and hotel and it’s not refundable. The past me would have been kicking and screaming. Now I’m just like “oh well”. It’s a great feeling
I will forever be indebted to you you've changed my whole life continue to preach about your name for the world to hear you've saved me from a huge financial debt with just little investment, thanks so much Mrs. Bonnie Antelo
l also invest with mrs Bonnie Antelo, she charges a 20% commission on the profit made after each trading session, which is fair compared to the effort she put in to make huge profits.
This was aweaking...😊⬆️This was a subject when many of us struggle with..In my personal case, minimalism as a life style helps me to define my future and needs when it comes to money..🙏💖 Thank you for a great video, and keep up wonderful topics...💯🌟
Cost/worth, is it worth it to you to spend more on professional shampoo or Starbucks coffee we all splurge in some area, and save in others. I don't care about travel. But I care about treating myself once in awhile
@douglassam1168Wow I'm so surprised you mentioned JuliaOswin! When I started the crypto process with her knowledge in 2021, I never know it could challengingly turning me to millionaire
Personally I'm saving a 2 years emergency fund because I have been out of work from my professional field during the 2008 recession for exactly 2 years with on off work in jobs not in my field. Very recently my brother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and has been through treatments and stem cell transplants with his own stem cells and then the selfless donor who donated their stem cells. With that he hasn't been able to work due to having a low immune system and building it back up. I know its morbid thinking we might face emergencies in our future lives but it's better to be safe than sorry and have money in place so you have one less stress as you go into an emergency situation.
money/ investment is always part of abundance............................ aside from positive friends and family members, we should always add money/ investment............................... it is never a clutter.....................

What’s your biggest money challenge?
Savings for my emergency fund!

Having my savings drained for unexpected expenses and knowing what to do with my 401k
we save and then my husband pulls from it. the balance never goes up

@@rafaelw8115 my mom is single at 66 and has 1000$: monthly on social security, so decent retirement
Loved this podcast. I love how Ramit speaks and gets all the host involved in the show.

You don't know the inner workings of your friends.
blah blah blah
Sounds like a cope
Congratulations 👍
What an unkind thing to say about your own friends. Seems like you are projecting your own ideas of happiness on your friends.
Congrats Jess and thank you for all you have done .❤
Thank you for this. Needed this. I was late to the money game and thought I’m “never going to be rich”. Good to redefine!

Spending the money we’ve saved for our retirement. We have all the money we need for our lifestyle.
I agree with your way of life.

I actually think you might not want a mortgage. U may want to buy cash or buy land. That kind of ownership hits different on your peace of mind.

You can still put the money in a HYSA like Ally because it's still safe and much higher returns than a regular savings account.
It is not morbid, it is wise to be prepared

The fact she doesn't know why she should invest or save is highly concerning. Lol.
