Check out the movie Chopper.
He is played by Eric Bana who at the time was just a skit comedian.
Eric spent some time with Chopper some is on youtube and nailed the character.
There is also a commentary on the movie by Uncle Chop Chop himself.

I went into the Richmond arms hotel with dad when I wad maybe 8 or 9, he was in there and was smashing things up because the wrong music was playing ha ha. Had a couple mates who were locked up in Risdon with him, they said he was ok. Bloke was even I the same parenting group as my mum when she had my little sister. He never said much tho, just sat at the back with his hood up.
