    I don't see what people are complaining about?? The case design and finish looks spectacular. One of the best, somewhat contemporary, takes on the dress watch. The hidden octagon carries enough traces of the RO design language without being over bearing. The mix of polished and brushed details are well thought out and executed to prefection. The movements look spectacular. And that curved/domed crystal sounds like it would be a treat to actually see in real life.
    Who cares if the majority of keyboard warriors on social media don't like it. As if AP is standing their eagerly waiting for your approval 😆

    Thank you! I have grown sick and tired of ppl looking at pictures on social media and slamming a watch they have never seen for real, let alone own. They wear a Tag Heuer or Seamaster at best and think they even remotely understand what has gone into the Code 11.59. A code is designed not to be understood by everyone and I for one think this is a good thing. Every time I look at my 11.59 I discover details that generally are only feasible for watchmakers that produce 3 watches a year by hand. The shape of the hands alone is a masterpiece of design and complexity. Are there better watches? Yes. Is it a true and worthy successor to the Royal Oak. Absolutely. Thank you again for cutting the ignorant nay sayers back to size.

    I think the presenter missed the point of the "bashing"
    No one denied the technical side, but the design of the dial. It looks like a Michael Kors dial. So its the design language that got the bashing, we all know the technical side is always top-notch with AP

    You can have your opinion and if you like them that’s great and you can’t be wrong it’s just an opinion. At the same time, in my and in most other people’s opinion the dials look boring and nothing new. The 1979 argument is invalid as the Royal Oak design and concept was something that was never seen before and the whole watch looked completely unique. The dials on these watches look like something that has been done before in much cheaper watches. The cases are cool but that’s not enough to save them from their boring dials. I’m sure AP will fix the dials if they don’t sell well, I hope for their CEO’s sake they do sell well as you can see the effort and pure passion he has put into these products. I genuinely hope I and most other people are wrong, but I fear I’m not.

      Dawn Keebolz I think he was just panicking because he wasn’t expecting the hugely negative response. This new project is also like his baby so he got very defensive, as CEO you should be prepared for anything though. Hopefully he and AP learns from this and they sort out the dials for next year. I think the cases and movements have huge potential.

    • @NikkenMagboy
      @NikkenMagboy 5 лет назад

      Very well said. I appreciated the passion and energy the CEO displayed during his into video. But the design just looks too overused. I am not APs market, i am sure they did some form of market research so maybe I am wrong.

    • @thetimster66
      @thetimster66 5 лет назад

      @Dawn Keebolz I saw the interview but didn't think he was defensive. I thought he was excited to share the thought and detail that went into their design. The dial is round. That's about the only thing in the watch that has been done before. Everything else showcases new designs, structural improvements and new calibres. Also they not only made models to showcase. They are ready to sell and move. Show today, sell tomorrow. A real launch of a full line of watches. All these things put together make this CODE 11.59 launch a legit accomplishment.

    • @donwarner6925
      @donwarner6925 5 лет назад

      Bob Graham12345 the royal Oak wasn’t received very well at launch. The real problem is people criticizing people, cars, architecture, watches and who knows what else just by a few press photos. How can anyone make an educated critique off the cuff of something without seeing and experiencing it firsthand? Your and others options are shortsighted at best. If everyone wants to see first and then trash it then so be it.

    Thank you Alexander for a very nice and unbiased review. I think most of the people don't have a problem with the craftsmanship (and evidently it's top notch), it's the dial design. The indices and hands for me look cheap and underwhelming. I do like how the case is finished, however.

    Honest, professional criticism:
    • The huge sizing is not good. That alone makes them look like cheap watches, especially from a distance. Look at the video at 6:55- those simply don’t look like $20k+ watches. Quite the opposite. Which leads to the next criticism-
    • The dial proportions. The hands, indices, name, etc look tiny in that giant case. Like little slivers. Everything is out of balance.
    • The 4 o’clock date window is a horrible implementation on any watch that’s not a chronograph. They’re abrupt and they throw off the symmetry. They’re simply not attractive or cohesive.
    • The worst of the collection in my opinion is the white 3 hand watch. If I’m being truly honest... it does look like a cheap Chinese watch.
    The case design, lugs & glass deserve praise. That’s good design, and quite radical(in a good way).
    I don’t think most people are contesting that.
    It’s the disconnect between such forward thinking in that design language vs the remedial, conservative, even pedestrian design of the dials.
    It’s as if the case designers and the dial designers were kept separate and didn’t communicate.
    Someone else stepped in when it came to those dials and restricted creativity.
    I’d venture to guess management, or at least that’s what it looks like.
    The case is bursting with creativity while the dials are completely void of it.
    And perhaps that’s how I’d sum up this line.
    To AP: It’s likely these watches won’t be a huge success.
    That’s okay.
    This is just a starting point.
    You now have amazing new movements to build upon and exceptional cases to house them in.
    Learn from the mistakes and criticisms, unleash your creativity and show the world what you’re capable of!
    Cheers!

    New subscriber here. I’m just seeing this now as I am new to watches. I am currently in Geneva and looked at the current offerings of AP, Patek, VC dress watches. I have to say that the Code 1159 is spectacular in comparison to similar dress watches of other brands. And the dial…well, you simply have wear it one full day in the sunlight. The innovative design/shape of the sapphire makes for an ever changing dial depending on the angle of the sun/light. You truly have to test drive it to appreciate why the dial seems “simple”. Only 250 were made for each iteration (2019). I’m glad that this is the first watch of my collection. Haters will soon become admirers. You are absolutely correct.

      WatchAdvisor Hi Alexander and thanks for your reply. Fair enough that you genuinely like the 11.59 - I know you are not alone. Angus, I guarantee you that I am not an "advertising window for the brands and a mouthpiece for their management". In case of the 11.59 I first discovered the new watches live and then we taped the video. What I said was my opinion... Only because in January a majority (that even had not seen the watches in real!!) did not like the 11.59, but I did, does not mean that I am an "advertising window for the brands and a mouthpiece for their management". I don't care what others think, I have my own opinion and if I like something I like it.

    Alex, when the code1159 was launched I have to admit I was not impressed with it and made my judgement before even holding one in my hands. I kept my opinion to myself though.
    Two years later today, my view on this watch has completely changed. I got the chance to see it in person at the boutique, the first time I hold it I still had doubts. But the watch grew on me and now I'm loving it. You warned us two years ago, and u are absolutely right! Love your content 🙂

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 года назад +1

      Thank you VERY much! This design needs time and at least one or two touch and feel approaches to be understood. The 11.59 will make its way and will get some small fine tuning. I give a watch, when I see it the very first time, seven to ten seconds... If I don't like it then, at least for me, it is game over. I saw the 11.59 in real and I liked it in the just mentioned time window 😉 I would have not defended the 11.59 that much otherwise. No one tells me what to do and I couldn't care less what others think or fanboys try to explain me. As the so discussed A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus, that I also like very much, this Audemars Piguet 11.59 collection will make its way...

      Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist , such as the AP Royal Oak. The RO was criticized for both the design and price. It took over a year before they sold the initial production of 1000 watches before the sales took off.

    • @TruckeeDoggo
      @TruckeeDoggo 5 лет назад +1

      This is true, there are a few great watches that had a lot of "haters" upon release. But the vast majority of the time, when a watch is poorly received upon its release, it's going to be a flop in the market. I somehow suspect the "Code 11.59" (what a terrible name) will end up being a flop, particularly considering its price point and derivative dial design. The dial design looks an awful lot like last year's JLC Polaris, which is another watch that is performing very badly in the market.

  • @ultrapogi
    @ultrapogi 5 лет назад +17

    Based on the interviews with AP CEO Bennahmias so far, it seems that it was his decision not to put a bezel on this watch. I think that made all the difference in the reaction to this piece. Sides are OK. The octagonal shape case sandwiched in the middle is GREAT. But what happened to the face? The dial seems rushed and uninspired, the stick hands from historical AP models look good, but without a compelling dial it looks mediocre. Finally, when you put a bland dial on a watch with no bezel, what character do you provide on the face of the watch? This is where the backlash is coming from. You don't need to see it live to see when a dial is uninspired. Although the reactions were extreme, I see why a lot of passionate AP fans felt offended by this code, particularly the basic model after AP saying it took them 8 years to develop this line.

It feels strange to say, but I think the three hand basic models could you more writing on the bottom half to maybe balance out the top and to reduce the empty space.

    Actually the more I look at them the more fascinating details I notice. I honestly don't give dress watches a lot of thought. I barely ever wear suits. And I'm very picky about how my watch matches what I'm wearing from the overall design down to the color of the dial or the strap in many cases. And even though I can appreciate the work and talent the goes into making the dressy higher end timepieces by all the greats, I still find the dress watch design in most cases to be boring and almost generic as it will 95% of the time conform to the classic old school aesthetics and there's nothing wrong with that. But when I think about a dress watch that I would really want to own I would instantly gravitate to Lange with their big date windows and contemporary dials. And I've been recently introduced to H. Moser and their lovely dials. So for me this AP makes perfect sense and is now one of 3 dress watches that I would buy and quite possibly the first one on that list.
    And just to put things into perspective, a year later from AP's release and after spending 5 minutes on chrono24, there's less than a handful of Time-Date and less than a handful of Chronograph 11.59s. Meanwhile, and only from 2019-2020, there's +100 New Calatravas and +1000 New Daytonas on offer. Let that sink in.

      I do - I own a two-tone rose and white gold Chronograph model. I heard that some people didn’t like the Code when it was first revealed at SIHH 2019, but I loved it at first sight..
      First, I was attracted by the double case, a round one and an octagon-shaped for the middle part (an obvious hommage to the RO). I normally don’t get dual tones, but the pairing was gorgeous in this particular instance.. plus, the rose gold is very discreet, and highlights the dual case construction.
      Finishes are incredible - Polished and brushed AP-style. Nothing surprising, but I had to mention it since haters described the watch as « cheap looking »..
      I also appreciate the fact that AP used rose gold for the hands and many other parts on top of that grey lacquered dial. Again, very discreet and it makes it even more elegant..
      It’s also a very versatile watch - Depending on what I wear I can switch the straps to something more casual or dressy, and it does the job very well.. But I have to admit that in most cases I go for the black alligator leather one!
      Obviously this is just my opinion. There’s a ton of options on the market, but I fell for this particular AP Code 11:59.. and I now wear it more than my Daytona or my submariner..

    Great video and opinions. Yes I agree reaction was aggressive. If AP uses a similar color combination for their time as their minute repeater .. and launched a thinner case at least for the time only I guarantee you things would have been different. A simple time only white on gold with that big case and dial just didn’t work and put the whole collection down. The biggest issue was with the time and chrono color combinations, thickness, and execution. The qp and minutebrepeater were much better received. My biggest disappointment is indeed the thickness of the watches.

They may be excellently constructed, but I dont think they live up to the personality or the case. Everyone wanted a "wow" from AP. When you only have one watch in your collection and people love it (RO) you better make sure you next big release 50 years later is something special.

    Alexander I think you’ll find that most people are viewing the images on a new or nearly new smartphone with some of the best, sharpest displays this side of the IMAX. It is the dial they will be looking at constantly throughout the day, so they are correct in trashing dials which are effectively trash. They are not caressing the lugs all day or comparing case edges.
    Everyone’s opinion should be respected, yours and ours. Negative opinions should not trashed by you, by you suggesting that they are reacting out of some madness or blind hatred. People are looking at the professional images produced by the company and saying ‘I don’t like that dial’. And the fact that this is the majority opinion should make Francois quite worried. You asked him in your interview if his reaction was like Teflon. He said no but then proceeded to demonstrate that, yes, it is exactly like a kind of delusional Teflon.

    So I went and tried these at the boutique. They are not ugly like some individuals proclaim online, however I must agree these are a hard sell. To start, the sales associate had to recite a very long list of features and push the merits of the watch. It felt forced and sad somehow.
    “The designer spent 5 years thinking the design, the glass took 2 years, only 11 person can polish the case, etc.” This and more, I’ve heard from the SA.
    Ok but are you proud of this or do you try to convince me these have some aura I can’t see by myself?
    To me the issue is triple:
    First, the bracelet is a letdown. It is the same architecture as a swatch bracelet. 2 straps, 5 holes and a buckle. Why no déployant ?
    Second, the fact they are so proud of the movement, but only the chronograph has a skeletonized mass, meaning the regular date model is less interesting
    And finally the dial. It looks good, but it also looks very bland. The fact there is zero lume doesn’t help.
    These are the reasons why I am not interested at the moment. I hope AP will change things a bit and update the proposition, and tell their SA not to push these so hard. I know they must, but it felt close to being in a Souk where a random man tells me his devices are the best.
    Last thing; AP’s CEO is a smart man and must know this isn’t going to work for the moment. When I hear (also from the SA, and others) that in its time, the Royal Oak was controversial, I must remind them that the issue was related to its back-then gargantuan size, not the design.
    To finish with a positive note, I will still say that the watch, despite what I said, is good looking in the flesh and shows superior craftmanship.
    I also will never blame a watch company for trying something new. This isn’t “weird for the sake of being weird”, like so many other brands will do. I wouldn’t like being in AP’s CEO’s shoes, because the situation they are in isn’t easy. I can certainly appreciate that.

    I’ve been thinking about this watch over the past year, withholding my comments. Speaking as a design and branding professional, here are my thoughts, that may help explain people’s reactions. With an entirely new model, there is always some “getting used” to the design. But I think there also may be some additional factors at play here that justify the negative reactions. It has a great movement, but its style keeps it from being as great of a watch as it could be. I see some troubling signs here, along the lines of Piaget's Polo re-launch. I have to wonder if maybe just a freshened up RO, or even a similar, lower-cost steel model may have been a better idea for attracting new, younger customers.
    1. The watch is a modern interpretation of a dressy strap watch in Gold. This category is not as popular as a sports steel model, especially with the younger audience AP is trying to attract. And large, bulky dress watches are even less popular. Therefore, the watch is limited by its very concept from the beginning. The execution of the concept further dooms it....
    2. It looks completely different than anything AP has done before, so it has no visual connection to the brand, apart from the subtle octagon sides of the case. To have no styling cues carried over from a brand is risky and almost never done. The fact that the original OAK accomplished this is more an exception rather than the rule. Things have changed and AP is in a much different position today. Its customers have a valid expectation for the watch to look like an AP, given its high cost.
    3. The watch looks quite interesting and distinctive from the side profile, but rather generic from the front. This gives it a bit of a "split personality." And it's the opposite approach of most watches, that get their main character from the watch’s face.The face of the Code 1159 lacks the distinctive details that would help to brand it. With so many watches being sold and promoted online this is a big problem, where the watch is pictured flat and in 2D.
    4. The narrow, bezel-less face allows the dial to dominate, overpowering the rest of the watch with its "plain-ness" when viewed from the front. There is a trend for colored dials to have a matt finish on upscale watches. Also for textures to be used. The Code 11.59 dial is very smooth and glossy and lacks a guilloche pattern, and the big chapter ring almost looks like plastic. This is very uncharacteristic of AP and similar watches. I think that is why people call it “cheap looking.” A better approach may have been to have the dial mirror the sides of the case, by echoing the cutouts on the indices, like with Panerai. Or perhaps use the instantly recognizable guilloche pattern of the Oak to give it a stronger connection to the brand.

      You have a great many good points. As a loyal Piaget enthusiast for over 40 years, I own the old Polo. In my view, the relaunch of the line with stainless steel was a positive move. Piaget has always catered to ultra thin movement aficionados, and bejeweled watches for the ladies. The new polo was truly needed to round out the brand to attract a younger range of potential buyers. What most people do not know is that Piaget is a top-tier movement house since 1874. They only started casing and selling their own brand after WW2. Even PP and AP and many others put Piaget movements in their own proprietary cases. So much the better. Getting back to the relaunch, I would have made the new Polo dials slightly different so avoid confusion with Patek. Patek Phillipe certainly stands on its own as a paramount maker, as does Piaget.

    • @misterfreeze6545
      @misterfreeze6545 4 года назад

      @@alexp3752 Thank you for that compliment! I too am a Piaget fan. The original Polo was one of my favorites, and the only Piaget I ever owned. But times have changed. I agree that they needed to make its concept more relevant to today's buyers, and I think they largely achieved that. I think where they fell down was in the styling dept. I can't find one element from the original model. I don't have a problem with the dial so much as as the odd bezel shape and plain looking bracelet. The original's styling was harmonious and flowed together well but I find the new one disjointed. I tried to like it, but just couldn't!

    The date window is poorly thought out and evidence of lazy design. Instead of throwing your hands up and asking how they could place the date anywhere else I'd suggest you look at the new Zeitwerk for an example of how things are thoughtfully and tastefully done. Case architecture and movement design is very good, its just the dial that kills the watch.

    HAY PARA MEJORAR! Sobre todo el Automático con esfera negra pues tiene poca visibilidad. El bisel es excesivamente delgado. La esfera, al reducirse el bisel, es enorme y desprovista como un desierto. La fecha debe estar al lado del 3, sin eliminar el número 3. La gran esfera del automático es insulsa, debe tener algún contraste, alguna tapicería o color en degradé que la haga más interesante, tal vez como el Bolshoi. La caja es excelente. Tal vez el cristal tan grueso oscurece la visibilidad de la esfera negra. El cronógrafo está bien. Aunque yo eliminaría el tachímetro que ya no tiene uso ni sentido mantener. El calendario perpetuo está muy bello. Es el mejor. No lo toquen. ¡Una vez hechas todas esas modificaciones al Automático, NO HABRÁ QUIEN SE RESISTA A ESTE RELOJ!

      "THERE IS TO IMPROVE! Especially the Automatic with black dial because it has poor visibility. The bezel is excessively thin. The dial, as the bezel shrinks, is huge and devoid of desert. The date should be next to 3, without eliminating number 3. The large dial of the automatic is bland, it must have some contrast, some upholstery or a gradient color that makes it more interesting, perhaps like the Bolshoi. The box is excellent. Perhaps the thick glass obscures the visibility of the black dial. The chronograph is fine. Although I would eliminate the tachometer that no longer has use or sense to maintain. The perpetual calendar is very beautiful. Is the best. Don't touch it. Once all these modifications have been made to the Automatic, THERE WILL BE NO RESISTANT TO THIS WATCH!"...

      WatchAdvisor i was in the AP boutique in Geneva where I live. Got a brilliant explanation from a great sales lady called Mina - on the complexity of the case, the glass, complete with larger demos of those components to illustrate how innovative the design aspects are. How the casing mounts on top of each other, the convex/concave shape of the dial with thicker edges on the outside, how the open lugs are mounted as isolated pieces to the outer case (By the way this is not new despite the marketing - there is a S.T Dupond hyper dome that has these lugs as well). I was however, impressed by the casing, as well as the process they undertake to make the AP logo stand out from the dial (forgive my layman terminology, as I’m not an expert). But we moved on from the demonstration and I tried them on...my reaction was an immediate “no”. Nothing about the watch excited me anymore. To be honest the 11.59 was not the model I was after when I walked in the store, I love the new royal oak ST, so naturally was not excited about this. In my opinion, a classically styled watch like this should not be larger than 37-39mm, it just looks off, and then the white, flat, plastic dial on top of that really creates too much empty, unforgivable space. the darker dials are much more appealing imo. I don’t think this model will do well with younger consumers, and reading up on forums, including this one - many people have the same reaction I did. Having said that, the movement / case back is stunning, particularly on the chrono, which also features some innovations in the fly back mechanism. But again, this is something you don’t see...The price point is also major issue that makes it easier to dismiss the watch as unattractive, because let’s face it, for that price you have quite a few options on pieces that have ‘withstood the test of time’. In short, I don’t believe this watch will create any kind of hype, and the fact that AP is only producing 2000 a year alludes to the fact that they might be aware of this. I just hope they begin producing more ROs 15500ST, it’s the same movement, and they are so difficult to get at the moment.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  5 лет назад +1

      Henri van den Idsert Thank you so much for this extensive and spontaneous review of the 11.59. I think you brought it to the point: The watch seems to please more an elder generation. That’s what I meanwhile heard a view times. This might also be the reason I like the watches. Readability is good and the design for me is refreshingly new and different. Maybe I have already seen to many RO and ROO in my life. I even posses one ROO. The 11.59 when I saw them the first time and when I recently saw them again still have this little extra appearance for me others don’t have. It will take some time until this particular design will make its way. In the watch industry we say every decade brings out one iconic design. This decade is the decade of the Octo Finissimo from Bulgari, maybe the next decade will be the one of the AP 11.59 ... Once again thank you for your feedback and good luck getting your desired AP RO ST...

    I think the case, glass and movement are great. For me, the blue dial automatic is a winner, but I would prefer it on a black strap. I think the 1159 dials could be improved by complementing the characteristics the double curved glass provides. From what I have seen the experience with this glass is similar to looking through shallow crystal clear water at say a river bed. I think a dial with asymmetrical textures and color variations would work better than a glossy lacquered single color. Imagine that river bottom through clear water with pebbles, sand, moss or driftwood. These dial design cues would possibly work better to create the best dial design for this watch.

    I hear and appreciate your Royal Oak comparaison at the end of the video, but Gerald Genta is what you are buying when you buy a Nautilus or a Royal Oak, and I'm afraid that with the Code 11.59 - at least from my perspective - the design is a miss. And yes AP's finishes are always sublime (the best when it comes to cases/bracelets/dials imo) so no it's by no means a "cheap" watch.
    All in all, where Genta innovated, i feel like whoever is responsible for this design just put together a marketing report of watch trends between 2014 and 2019 into a renderer and the Code 11.59 poped out.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  5 лет назад

      Yes, Genta designed some nice watches... The Nautilus is not among them. I don't like that design at all. The watch just is so popular because you can't buy it. Would the watch be available, I doubt so many would wear it and that there would be any hype at all... Just my two cents. I like the design of the Royal Oak and in my opinion the design of the 11.95 is not bad at all. It will make its way and clearly positions Audemars Piguet somewhere else than before, and I think this was part of the entire exercise ...

    • @starchild24
      @starchild24 5 лет назад

      @@WatchAdvisor I do think Patek got a little out of hand with the modern Nautilus, but the 3700 is a beauty.
      But i agree with what you said in the video, when comparing the Ingenieur to the Royal Oak (and even the nautilus) it is the brand's savoir faire that brings those designs to life, through the movement of course, but the extremly high tolerances when it comes to case/bracelet finishings and most importantly, through these incredible dials.
      And yeah Genta did have some "questionable" designs with the Pasha and the Ellipse for instance.
      Sitting at 41mm - and here is just my personal opinion - for this style of "large dress watches on a strap" i would rather go with an IWC 500107 or a JLC 1278420 which also happen to have precious metal variations.
      But then again they might be so far ahead that we can't see yet how they anticipated the upcomming trends in the watch industry - but i somehow doubt it due to their heavy reliance on the Royal Oak line and the fact this piece has been designed (from what i have heard from the reportings - and it might be wrong) fully in house.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  5 лет назад

      Impale Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I personally hope for AP that the new 11.59 will take some pressure from the Royal Oak. So far it was a risky decision to rely only on one icon. I would say it is probably better to have a second pilar in the pipeline. You never know ... Yes the 11.59 was designed in-house. I don’t think that a designer from outside would have done a better job. In the end the design had to please the management and owners and it did as we see... I believe in this revolution and I think the 11.95 will make its way. Already the amount of free advertising and promotion the 11.59 got so far is in fact a brilliant start for a new product. Everybody talks about the watch... positive or negative... but people talk and get involved... many other brands get not attention at all ... neither positive nor negative... When you had the chance to put a 11.95 on your wrist let me/us know what you think 🤔

    I really like the case and lug design, and the crystal is absolutely amazing. But I do think the dials (and specifically the fonts) are a bit bland. I think if a lessor brand had launched these in steel, they would be a great hit. But maybe the expectations are just too high for a brand like AP, and the price points are too high for these watches, and that's what has led to the backlash

    Thank you so much for this great video Alexander! What do you think about introduction of Code 11.59 Self winding (Time only model)in stainless steel with green dial (like AP RO Offshore boutique edition) ? If you have a chance to talk to Mr Bennahmias next time can you ask him about it? That lime green or toxic green would look cool and unique since white, black, blue are quite common.

    I didn't like the watch so far, however I do agree with you ... the watch community members need some time to digest the new ideas, concept and the message of watch. I have to see it in real to build my opinion about it.
    According to AP CEO, it took them 7 years of R&D to develop this watch, so the one can't absorb the whole 7 years in just few seconds.
    Moreover, the watch passion "syndrome" is an evolving thing, one day you don't like the watch, the day after it is your ultimate dream... you never know, maybe in a few years from now it will be the most wanted watch , or it will be just another watch in the product portfolio.
    I would love to see it on a braclet rather than a leather strap.
    Keep up the good work.. big fan of the channel.

    I think this collection sucks, regardless of what you say. It's ergonomics are horrible with the barrel shape ,it dosn't slide under the shirt,and the dial layout is empty and not proportionate. I acknowledge the materials and the technics applied ,but as Winston Churchill would say : " No mater how brilliant the strategy one should always look at the results ". Off course tastes differ but this brand remains the Royal Oak brand ...

    You know when you're a member of the Swiss holy trinity, people expect things off you. You've made money off your reputation but what have you done to earn it? The fact that the only watch from ap that gets mention is the royal oak is everything. These watches are fine... But ap isn't breaking technical ground. Compare that to a brand doing everything right like lange. They could have coasted on the 1815 or datograph but no. They did the double split, a world first and still in a class of its own years later. Triple split a world first and in a class of its own. Rattrapante perpetual. Zeitwerk, a world first. Zeitwerk minute repeaters with a decimal minute repeater with the power actually coming from the mainspring? What? That's crazy... Turbograph. Lange time zone. Every year something new and updates on the old. There's a real sense of luxury and marvel there. Vc and Patek new offerings seem stale by comparison with less finishing. Lange meanwhile is single handedly making bedroom poster watches near every year. Ap in my mind is what happens when a brand just kind of gives up and coasts on reputation and a one hitter. These watches are cool. Beautiful even... But coming from grand complications level stuff they used to do it's just whatever.

      I fully agree with you on A. Lange & Söhne. I expressed my admiration not only once in my videos. By the way: did you watch my video where I show the new Lange 1 Zeitzone with the black dial? Let me know what you think! Audemars Piguet could in fact do better and surprise us with something new and not only concept watches... The brand very much relies on its bestsellers ... The 11.59 will make its way, but it will take some time though. The potential at AP is there...

      Giannis Nikolinakos I don’t think AP particularly conceived a dress watch... It’s the 11.95! A new watch that can be everything. Sorry but not buying anything you said about the look of the watches. When you see a Ferrari, you don’t have be inside of it to know that it’s beautiful, same with landscapes, people, etc. Why did AP insist to the press not to take pictures just of the dial of the watch anyway? For me that Dial it’s from a Michael Kors Watch. It’s lazy, without any imagination possible.

      Many other watches from AAA brands on the market have the same problem and there is no shitstorm ... It is a general problem, that many dials do reflect too much light and therefore the readability of the time is not great.

    Thank you for sharing your opinion on this line of watches Alexander. Even before I came across your video, I had already formed my opinion on the release and found it extremely intriguing.
    I agree with the majority that the 3-hander does not do much for me. But starting with the chronograph, to the perpetual calendar, to the tourbillon, to the skeleton and the sonnerrie, I think AP did a great job with the line overall. And I think the brand did very well with their strategy.
    1. They introduced 3 new calibres with this release
    2. They introduced a new case design that quite obviously appeals to the majority
    3. They introduced a double curved cover to increase clarity, something that also seems ok to most
    4. They are ready to roll the line out immediately with units available within the next few weeks.
    To do all these things at the same time would not be possible if they did not plan it this way. So kudos to AP for having a lot of foresight and organization to make this happen.
    AP is really known as a luxury line. And for such high-priced watches, I think one would really need to love everything about the watch to buy one. It is a bit unfortunate that the dial does not appeal to the majority. Because I think it takes away from all of the other things they achieved in this line. When the headlines could say that 3 new calibres, including the much awaited chronograph has finally come out, it might end up saying AP's dial could possibly sink the whole line. When the headlines could say AP pulls off major accomplishment by being able to roll out watches immediately after launch, it will say the line has more detractors than supporters. Even though the movements and other elements of the line will be lauded, 11.59 might end up not getting the credit it deserves.
    I think AP did well to only produce 2,000 watches. I think these will still sell out to the minority who like them. If 11.59 does become a huge hit, AP should thank those early buyers by awarding them for their loyalty! If I had the money for it, I wouldn't mind having the black on gold chronograph or the aventurine perpetual calendar myself!

    I really like the case, REALLY like the case , my problem is the date location , but that is a personal choice . The dial is just too minimalistic for the black (the big empty space between the center and 6 (top heavy)) but the minute repeater looks more balanced. The white dial i like because it adds depth (or it can be easily seen) which adds a bit of busyness . Don't know if putting a simple AP instead of the whole name would balance it more . Maybe also faceted Pencil hands instead of needle hands (Personal choice again). The watch is OK , and i think that people expected more while the others are just riding the hate train , but for me the case is a winner . The chrono i find too busy , drop the date and it should be ok ........... and would make it easier to produce . Im sure they will sell , and the future iterations will be better (dials) . Did i say i like the case 😁I don't really look at AP as the Genta design is not my cup of tea, but it's refreshing to see AP trying something new .............this has a better case than the RO in my opinion

    In my opinion, AP should design the watch from the outside. They should not design the machine first, then design the housing of the watch. It is the same as designing a car; do you think Rolls Royce design the interior first, then design the look of the car?
