It could be the amp problem, check the amplifier side of it for shorted transistors and check that all the voltages on the power supply board are correct.
@@MaxELECTRONICS I have similar model vsx 329-k, it works but only in pure direct mode... Great sound, also headphones not working... Do you know what's the problem??? Thank you!
That would be digital board, it could be ether the A/D converter IC or processor or simply a crystal. Check all the power rails are present and with in range. If they are then check the A/D and then crystal and then processor.
Hi Max, thanks for the video. I have a VSX-421. tested with 2 android box. I have to power on/off a couple of times either the android or the receiver to get sound via hdmi. And even after I get sound it can break when the audio type changes. (I am not sure I use the right term here). Do you have any idea what's wrong? Thank you!
Sounds like ether compatibility issue or a weak signal through the cable, try changing cable and check that hdmi on both ports are clean, try plugging same setup directly to tv and see if there’s same issue, that’ll help you pinpoint if it’s an amp or cable or something else.
@@MaxELECTRONICS Thank you very much for your answer. I tried a lot of things in the past months, but nothing really helped. Currently I added an optical cable next to the hdmi and it is more stable, but the same issue is still happening, just not as often. If the sound is gone there is no sound even if I switch to tuner or any other input source. Sometimes it is enough to go a circle with "signal sel", sometimes an on/off isn't enough. So the issue is with the amp and I had an another anrdoid tvbox earlier which caused the same.

It was a great video, until at 20:37 you jump from a bad cap to a bad chip with no explanation whatsoever. Nice! Why did you completely cut out how you troubleshot it was a chip issue?
It was filmed “on the fly” and not in the lab, I simply used signal generator that I’ve injected into inputs and signal tracer to see where signal goes, and no Mater what I did signal never went any further then that switching IC, that was a good indicator that IC was dead.
Great video. Learnt much. I have a VSX422 which shuts down on its own. Likely in protection mode. Is there a list of codes that describe each type of fault? How does one begin to troubleshoot the error?

Hi Max, please I have pioneer SC-LX58 and I’m having code 1-290006513121… When I try to turn the volume up then it’s starts to change to ADV.SURROUND and STEREO, back and forth. If I turned the volume to zero then it works as normal. Could the problem be the volume or a faulty component? If yes, please do you do repairs? Thank you.
Sounds like could be loose connectors on interface pcb or bad power on power rails, check connectors and check voltages on low voltage rails. Unfortunately I’m still renovating house after floods and unable to do any repairs at this time.
I have this exact receiver. I get sound through the tuner, but nothing through HDMI. This happened before and there was a setting I could change, but I don't remember what it was and cannot find it.

I have and old Pioneer vsx-516-k home theater receiver and i am having the same problem. No sound output. I reset the receiver to factory specs and still no sound. Anyone have any ideas as to what is the problem? Thank you
It could be ether the ic shown in the video, or the DAC ic or the digital switch ic it needs to be diagnosed, check that all the voltages to D-Board are okay and all the ICs are supplied with power,
11:13 They are not mosfets, they are darlington transistors. It is clearly written on the board B, C, E (base, collector, emitter), not G, D, S (gate, drain, source)...
i repair a lot of car amps and pioneer ones never burnt their porwer transistor, just somtimes power supply mosfet, because they use high quality components, only u can find some small capacitors out of range with the pass of the time or other small and stupid fails, but the power transistors use to be good and strong.
Anyway you could help diagnose a “No sound” issue with my VSX-3600 ? I’m handy taking things apart and looking but the small transistors/relays/diodes/boards are out of my league on knowledge. If so that would be awesome but thanks!
Check the power busses first, make sure all voltages are correct then check all voltage regulators on all boards, good way to check amp itself is to connect signal generator before the amp board but after the digital board, make sure it’s low signal because if amp is working of will be loud, and it’s direct signal to amp and speakers bypassing everything

Hello from Greece, I just got the specific model for 20 backs and thought give it a try, so we're dud you buy the chip from, thanks in advance, Greece is watching🇬🇷 keep up!
Check all power rails to make sure there’s correct voltages and check all capacitors. Check for discolouration of solder joints, there’s a possibility when it gets hot bad solder joints expand and lose connection.

If your receiver is older, your not doing this.. Get a new receiver with newer tech. You can get a decent receiver for $600-1000. Patching up a 7 yr old receiver doesn't make any sense.
Getting a new receiver is the easiest option, obviously. But just imagine, thr may be like 2000 components in the receiver and all these would have landed up in the landfill just because one component was not working. What a waste not to mention the impact on the environment. Really appreciate ppl who repair, repurpose and reuse!!

Check power rails, and transistors/amps, could be the D board also
My tech told me that I have to replace the HDMI control board?
That’s the D Board, you can still fix it. You don’t have to replace the whole board
What's the chip you used
It’s R2A15218FP in QFP package.
@@MaxELECTRONICS thank you, appreciated. I have the no sound issue also
Check that it’s not a main board first
was it working in pure direct mode before repair?
No, there was no audio, it was coming to the chip but not out of the chip.
@@MaxELECTRONICS Thank you very much, I think it is the DSP chip... but I will check it all.
Where can I buy the chip for pioneer vsx-321
EBay or AliExpress
Hey I'm getting an error code on mine it says over 034 and I can't figure out what the problem is and can't figure out what the error code means
Possibly bad capacitors or dry solder joints inside the amp
pioneer VSX-1020 pqls flashing--- Had no problems over past 11 years until the past couple of weeks. We now have a repeatedly shuts down and the blinking PQLS red light and will not power on. But when I power unplug and re-plug there is click in sound which show it was ON but only show blinking PQLS red light nothing else. I tryed all speaker and HDMI unplug but same as it is.
It’s probably bad capacitors on power supply board, PQLS means there’s something wrong with voltages, usually bad caps, maybe V-Reg.
@@MaxELECTRONICS Thanks Max
having the same issue on a vsx 53.. no audio at all coming from it but hdmi inputs show up on the output.. it was acting really funny like not turning off even after hitting the power button it would click to shut off but the osd will be frozen and I have to pull the plug out to shut it off.. I did do a factory reset and the power seemed to fix but still no audio
recently got a VSX-1124-k Pioneer Reciever and it displays video through the hdmi ports but i get no sound through any port including my tv and optical out but when i turn the volume up on certain modes like stereo i hear the ticking of the volume being turned up and the speakers make the humming sound due to getting power please help
It’s hard to tell without diagnostics, check all power rails inside if they all are at proper voltage.
@@MaxELECTRONICS are you located in the us? If so do you do service on receivers for people i would pay for shipping to you and back if you do that sort of thing?
Unfortunately I’m located in Australia and shipping would be astronomical, try contacting @MrCarlsonsLab he’s located in US, checkout his channel too, he does an amazing repairs.
@@MaxELECTRONICS awesome thank you i will

hi me have pioneer reciwer sc lx 75 and on display see va 22 and no sound what to do please
max my VSX-521-K isnt putting out any sound from the bare wires. if i plug into the RCA out lines I get sound. I have lost the remote so im not sure if this is a harward issue or a setting. any suggestions?
Try “direct through” function, if that doesn’t work Try factory reset, amd if still no sound it would be your D-Main board.
Hello. I have a pioneer vsx 922 team. and it gives me a UE22 error. We have managed to make it sound once by resetting it but now it no longer works, the error reappears. we tried to make the backturn on to see the error and it doesn't work. thanks greetings
Hi, you need to replace DSP ic’s
Plug in headphones to check the preamp section
It was a great video, until at 20:37 you jump from a bad cap to a bad chip with no explanation whatsoever. Nice! Why did you completely cut out how you troubleshot it was a chip issue?
Да, тоже было очень интересно. Почему так поступил автор.
It was filmed “on the fly” and not in the lab, I simply used signal generator that I’ve injected into inputs and signal tracer to see where signal goes, and no Mater what I did signal never went any further then that switching IC, that was a good indicator that IC was dead.
@@MaxELECTRONICS Class. Well done!
sir paano po kaya yung Pioneer vsx 522 namin, yung sound ng sorround speaker sa front speaker din sya lumalabas?
Hi, how much is the fix for this problem? is too expensive?
No, the IC was $6 aud from ebay
Great video. Learnt much. I have a VSX422 which shuts down on its own. Likely in protection mode. Is there a list of codes that describe each type of fault? How does one begin to troubleshoot the error?
You need to get into service menu and see what is the problem, it will tell you of its power supply or amp or other board.
I know it is a one year old post, but maybe this helps someone: you can accidentally set an auto power off delay in the settings. it happened to me :)
I think I have accidentally done that to mine, do you happen to know how to disable it?
I kinda have the same issue, except for I do have audio through my headphones. I believe the person before me hooked up a car speaker to it,
Hi Max, congrats for the nice work. Could you please give an advice please, I have a VSX-921-K AV receiver and only works on pure direct sound, also the hdmi doesn´t connect to the led tv screen. I tried factory reset but still the problem. Thank you in advance
Hi that would be the D board (digital board) check that all power buses have correct voltage. If they do, then it’s ether crystal, or ic
Here’s a service manual that has step by step guide to troubleshoot the D board
drive.google.com/file/d/1kxU0J7WaNyxXJAqajkpPiQuWi6IipRAt/view?usp=drivesdk
Thank you @@MaxELECTRONICS I will check the digital board

@@MaxELECTRONICS Hi man, i've been having problems with bluetooth on a vsx 921. Its stuck on "starting" "retreiver air"
So the problem was a bad IC?
Yes
@@MaxELECTRONICS Excellent troubleshooting and work!
I have this exact receiver. I get sound through the tuner, but nothing through HDMI. This happened before and there was a setting I could change, but I don't remember what it was and cannot find it.
Try resetting the amp to a factory default
Hi Max, I have a Pioneer VSX Elite 52, has this same exact issue, no sound output. Do you think they have the same IC as with yours? Also, where can I buy the IC?
I’m not sure if they have same ic, but you can buy the Ic’s on AliExpress
@@MaxELECTRONICS thanks.
@@MaxELECTRONICS replace the IC. Same issue. Next component I should check?
Diagnose D-Mail board
Have you checked that amp PCB is working?
thank you very much for the good tutorial sir..
I have and old Pioneer vsx-516-k home theater receiver and i am having the same problem.
No sound output. I reset the receiver to factory specs and still no sound. Anyone have any ideas as to what is the problem?
Thank you
It could be ether the ic shown in the video, or the DAC ic or the digital switch ic it needs to be diagnosed, check that all the voltages to D-Board are okay and all the ICs are supplied with power,
@@MaxELECTRONICS Thank you will do.
Salve, nel mio funziona solo la radio, cosa posso fare?
11:13 They are not mosfets, they are darlington transistors. It is clearly written on the board B, C, E (base, collector, emitter), not G, D, S (gate, drain, source)...

Do you have extra hdmi board for pioneer vsx 521 I have been searching for it
Unfortunately no, all digital board for amps are hard to find, try eBay.
@@MaxELECTRONICS thank you if it comes don't forget me 🤝🤝🤝
You welcome to join chat in live stream this Saturday
Sounds like loose hdmi port
i repair a lot of car amps and pioneer ones never burnt their porwer transistor, just somtimes power supply mosfet, because they use high quality components, only u can find some small capacitors out of range with the pass of the time or other small and stupid fails, but the power transistors use to be good and strong.
Anyway you could help diagnose a “No sound” issue with my VSX-3600 ? I’m handy taking things apart and looking but the small transistors/relays/diodes/boards are out of my league on knowledge. If so that would be awesome but thanks!
Check the power busses first, make sure all voltages are correct then check all voltage regulators on all boards, good way to check amp itself is to connect signal generator before the amp board but after the digital board, make sure it’s low signal because if amp is working of will be loud, and it’s direct signal to amp and speakers bypassing everything
thank you very informative. guess my Pioneer surround amp has a faulty chip which is funny since I didnt play it at all since it last worked
What's the serial number of this chip..tq
I’d have to pull it apart to have a look as it’s individual to every chip, would be no use anyway as it’s for manufacturers purposes only.
Hello. I have had a PIONEER VSX 527 K for about 10 years and it bothers me, meaning it no longer reads music from USB and, it doesn't connect to the net, I can't listen to radio on the net (as if it doesn't receive an IP address) , the net cable has been replaced but in vain, the same problem. If you can help me with any information, contact me. Thank you.
Sounds like there may be a problem with power supply board inside, have a look if there’s any bloated or leaky capacitors inside. Also try doing a factory reset
@@MaxELECTRONICS Tanks. I did a reset, all in vain. It's annoying that I can't update it, and I can't find any firmware to download ...

Check all power rails to make sure there’s correct voltages and check all capacitors. Check for discolouration of solder joints, there’s a possibility when it gets hot bad solder joints expand and lose connection.

I have similar amp just the 828k model and its acting the same way non of the audio inputs are working.... sell is saying he tested it i think his lying. So i guess ima have to deep diver or try refund hey
The problem is in the remote not the recover.
So my clown friend, how did you figure out it was a chip that was the problem?
If your receiver is older, your not doing this.. Get a new receiver with newer tech. You can get a decent receiver for $600-1000. Patching up a 7 yr old receiver doesn't make any sense.
I have hi-end receivers at home, I’m didn’t fix this for myself, I did this to keep it out of landfills and out of passion.
Hey man I got a barbecued receiver no job cuz I’m hurt and a fuck load of time to tinker lol
@@thevikig420 Nothing wrong with that. 👍
I have one exactly the same unit. The sound is working well but I get a very high pitch sound (like a bursting capacitor)coming from the speakers about every 30 seconds scaring the shit out of my dogs. The high pitch sound mainly the left speakers.what can it be ?
It sounds like an amp section, but worth checking all power rails to make sure all low voltages are correct on power supply board

Try resetting whole thing to default factory setting and set up again
@@MaxELECTRONICS I did but the problem still exists
Have you looked at the troubleshooting guide in service manual?
@@MaxELECTRONICS The subwoofer works correctly but the amp doesn't output signal from subwoofer pre out. How is it fixed?
Try injecting 100hz signal and trace it using signal tracer. See if that would help.
