LET PAT IN THE BAND ALREADY!!📈📈📈🚀🚀🚀
i second this
@@Enderrock424 I third this.
It's a trio, who is he replacing?
@@cooldude2847 He'd make it a quartet.
real
I notice - say, around the 2 minute mark - how Emmet waits a half-second to see what stylistic tropes the sax is going towards, such as Coltrane runs or old-school bluesy riffs, and then he supports in that style (lightly) until it changes. The man is both an intuitive master and an effortless encyclopedia of jazz history.
Yeah and above all that is a tasteful way of playing. It is about supporting the music and doing what's best for the song.
Not even joking, this combo got me back into jazz again. Y'all are doing great things!
There's just something so special about when these guys play together
Patrick is definitely my current alto idol( and Kenny Garrett always) he is such a wonderful musician
He’s awesome alright but if you like a slice of Parker with your Alto check out Luigi Grasso.Patrick is awesome but I never get why these guys play an alto like it’s a tenor !
I used to play a bit of sax so I know it’s a helluva lot easier to try and play like Coltrane-like than Parker-like!
Great quartette, thanks for sharing ! Special mention for Patrick Bartley whom I rallye enjoy listening, à great alto sax !!!
These are some of the best living jazz musicians.
Bartley is so deep seeded in the roots of jazz and yet thoroughly contemporary at the same time
Delicious piano solo! I had flashbacks to Bill Evans "Alone" and with so many sweet Emmet moments sprinkled about... in the pocket with Yasushi - wonderful!
Something to be said about chemistry at the highest level. You’ve had the best of best on here but a not so well known person is the best person I’ve seen with this band.
You guys are bringing the magic of jazz creation together and share it through these streams and your tours around the world. I see you like the new jazz heroes. Thanks for the joy of this music!!
This is true, great music which made me happy. Thanks for sharing ! Wish you à good music travel !
"An older alto player
This is my favourite one i think :33
Outstanding 👏
One of my favorite standards. Great job.
Been waiting for this upload to drop! Thanks, Emmet! 🎶
That Bartley solo has so much of an early Kenny Garrett vibe to it and I love it
Sublime. And I love Patrick's tone here, wish he'd stuck with this piece ahead of the SYOS.
Smoooooooooth!!!!
how can Patrick play like this man. Jeez Louise.
Yea pats in the band. Emmet cohen quartet
Magnificent
sweet music, heals the heart, erase from my soul the fact that i'm fed up somehow (and the fact that i m so sorry for that) good choice thks !
A parte "4:30" é tão revigorante que eu quase chorei
Anyone know what Russel Hall has been up to? Haven't seen him in a while
Feel like no one has sounded this good on alto since cannonball?
Jaleel Shaw, Miguel Zenon, David Binney.
@@CookieCurls totally fair haha I shouldn’t speak in superlatives!! Steve Lehman too! But Pat is absolutely insane. Just saw Binney here in Seattle a month ago.
Appreciate Kyle playing more like a percussionist than a drummer.
I'm not a drummer. Can you explain what you mean by that?
@@brycewalburn3926 I'm a drummer and percussionist and it don't make sense
Drummers are percussionists.
@@OliverDuarte88 Very insightful.
@@brycewalburn3926 he might mean how some people say that a lot of intermediate drummers think more about beats and patterns versus setting textures and atmospheres for a group/soloist. And that playing like a percussionist would mean acknowledging each instrument of the kit has its own timbres and attributes to be used thoughtfully and not just as a piece to fill out the prescribed “jazz beat”… or something like that. He is just saying he appreciates how the drummer is actively thinking versus playing cookie cutter beat + fills and zoning out.
I don’t like the drummer vs percussionist comment either but I understand it. Ppl say it often
Cual es el nombre de las baquetas q usa el genio de la bateria???
僕のヒーローアカデミア
Patrick rocking that My Hero Academia shirt
Y’all sounding like the second great quintet collectively, while still retaining remarkably individual voices on your instruments! Great performance. I’m getting such Herbie, Tony, and Ron vibes from the interplay in the rhythm section.
Does pat have a new alto?
Radical
@@rinahall i suppose so
@@rinahall music is a broad subject that’s very hard to explore, could you start me off somewhere
Radically brilliant
