Man, that’s a pretty sword. So cool to see you livin’ the dream and making real, honest to goodness swords.
Haha thanks Jake
Nice work! I’ve started forging a Viking sword for a family member. I’m using round stock that’s an inch and a half in diameter so I’m going to be hammering for a while! That’s a nice sword and you should be proud of it!
Sweet looking sword and sheath your work just keeps getting better and better
Fantastic build Phil, just a great combination of historically correct and your personal skillset and experience. Really came together well. Now that's how you "Be more Viking "...
Thanks as always, Jim
Lord that thing is sharp!
Bad ass dude!!! your work is killer. Thank you for the content.
man, the look of intent on that stab was *chefs kiss*
Nice to meet another sword keep up the good job man
Love the video to make it more traditional try doing an iron bloom
Fantastic! I prefer the simplicity of it.
Beautiful job

awesome sword

Looks awesome bud
Very good
Awesome
Very cool, good job👍
Thanks, Asko!
lovin it
I wanna buy this!
Very well made blade. I will point out one thing though. When you grind I feel like having the belt spinning horizontal and the blade vertical makes you work harder then making the blade and belt parallel with each other . Just a thought to pass on and that is still excellent craftsmanship.
Wish I lived nearby
The Vikings actually prized Anglo Saxon swords over their own
hey Phil. is there a design out there that allows for a changable handle? my understanding is that because you attached the primary pommel piece to the tang that the shelf life of the sword is essentially limited to how long the wood will last.
👍
Hi Phil, I am a huge fan of the work that you do! just a quick question, I saw that you quenched the blade but is that where you stopped in that process? I’m sure you had to edit some things out for time purposes but just curious. Thanks for another awesome video, keep up the great work sir!
After I quenched it, I took it off camera and and clamped it up between to 2x4s to try to ensure it would harden straight. The shot of me checking the edge-harness with the file is a few minutes after pulling it out of the quench. Hope that answers your question, thanks for watching!
@@PhilBaumhardt thanks for the reply, I understand what you mean. Excellent info, have a great New Year!
Great! Is your quench tank made from Plastic or metal?
Thanks! The quench tank is metal, a milsurp ammo can actually
@@PhilBaumhardt ohhh that's smart. Keep doing what you do, your builds are 🔥
@@PhilBaumhardt that is brilliant. I've wanted a metal quench and this makes it affordable.
How much did it end up weighing?
@@rangered2010 I don't remember exactly, but I think around 3lbs. Certainly heavier than most actual Viking Age swords.
What grinder is that?
It's a Brodbeck Ironworks 2x72
I love everything about this video except the audio track. You might turn off audio or even have music instead of power tools or hammering.
