I am growing pears here in Maine, in fact just planted a bareroot Giffard that I obtained from Fedco to add to the collection. This type of video with you and Julia making pruning decisions just never gets old. I, for one, thank you profusely for making this into a video.

The rootstock water shoots, particularly in the early spring, also remove well by pinching. If done right, less damage than knife or pruners.
I’ve done literally hundreds of thousands of times. Pinching also takes a fraction of the time.
Some big cuts all at once. I wonder if you are pressed for time.
You are usually more light handed.
I have been working and restoring orchards for many years now.
I have been enjoying your work also for many years.
You were always a voice of restraint in the back of my mind while I’m working in a tree. Particularly in my earlier years. Especially when it was a monster of a restoration. Truly helped me on my way to where I am now. Professionally as well as connecting to and understanding trees in general. Specifically apple trees.
    🍻

I have a young perry pear, variety, Gin, grafted onto a seed grown rootstock from my grocery bought pear. This side project is 100% inspired by you. I have another nine of these seedlings, waiting for decent, hopefully interesting perry scion wood, which will make a perry grove within my orchard.
