    Thank you so much I gotta do a water pump( mite as well do chains too) on my 2006 Xl7 and my timing chains on my 01 xl7. Your very helpful. You got me thru replacing EGR ON 06! Think I may put my 01 in my 4 seater 99 Chevy tracker/grand Vitara 4 door 4 seater. Stupid Chevy version has a 4 banger where the Suzuki had the 2.5-7. Thank you this was so informative

    I'm working on a vehicle with the passenger side head off. I didn't take it all apart. All the timing chains were off before we knew we had to remove the head. I'm wondering if there is a way I can tell if the guy who took it all apart was at TDC or not. The middle cylinder is right to the top on the passenger side. I could stick something in the spark plug holes to locate the other cylinders but of course I can't know if it's the compression or exhaust stroke. Does the bottom of the engine even "know" whether the stroke is exhaust or compression ?
    Any ideas how I can be sure before I put it all together ?

    Do the valve covers have to come off for the front engine plate to come off? What other things need to come off for the cover to come off? I already took out a couple of bolt from around the plate. You are awesome.

    2001 Suzuki XL7 2.7L.. Do I have to mess with the timing or the camshaft to change a rocker arm? I noticed a clinking sound on the passenger side. Thank you!

    Doing the same work now,..however,.I don't seem to find a timing cover gasket anywhere. Did you use a gasket? Or some sort of oil silicone sealant? Appreciate the feedback.

    Wow, that looks like a mission and a half just to get in to where you started! Normally, I would have done this myself but I smashed my hand up playing tennis about 4 months ago, got another hand operation at the end of this month, so doing this one is totally out of my capabilities for a while. Looks like replacing the water pump would be a good move while one is in that far. What is the expected hours for this job if sending it to my local mechanic. I have asked a few locals, all I got was rolled eyes and comments like 'Mmm... big job'. No one has actually quoted me up with a price yet.
    Also, Looking at parts kits, some have the chain for the oil pump included. My oil light just came on today. The chains are really quite rattly, could it be that the oil pump chain has failed? When I remove the oil filler cap, I can see oil splashing round, so it cant be that serious, surely?

      In order to replace the balance chain for the oil pump you will have to remove the engine. If the chains rattle it sounds like the guides and tensioners are bad.....I actually think most shops don't have a tech on hand that can tactical this job in a cost effective and timely manner so that the shop makes money. It is a massive job and there are some things in there that can happen like bolts breaking off that can Turn this job into nightmare......I charge 1,000 up front with no guaranteed time free for this job. I usually put them on the back burner and work on them in my spare time. I never rush this job. When I finish them though they are done correct and I haven't had the need to redo one yet....my advice is just take your time and enjoy it don't rush it. Thanks for watching and supporting!!

      Hi is there anything special about removing the bar over the 2.5ltr engine to remove the intake manifold ¿ I searched manuals and everywhere and I can't seem to find anything on it. Somebody told me that the car body will bend if you remove it without jacking it up from the center of underneath the to find the bolt holes again or remove the bar. It's the bog of painted black it goes to each strut and goes over the motor. I guess this is for stabilisation. My email address is if you could email me please is Levydoo@gmail.com. Thank you. I don't use forums very much so I'm not sure how to get notified when an answer comes in. Thank you very much.

    I really hope you see this im working on changing my water pump on my 2002 xl7 but I cant seem to fit the new one in because of the timing chain. do I have to pull the timing chain off?

    • @MattShaughnessy6
      @MattShaughnessy6  4 года назад

      I say yes. in my career I have never attempted nor have I felt like it could be done any other way. These engines are very picky. Its basically a glorified giant motor cycle engine.....anyways.......I once saw a video where some people took a short cut and did not remove the chain but I cringed at it and saw way to many factors for mistakes. Since I have never done it any other way. I would say YES remove chains.

    Why did you have to change the timing chain to begin with? Unlike timing belts, chains should last the duration, or at least a healthy duration of the vehicles lifespan.

      I was thinking the same thing. I have a '99 Grand Vitara like this one that needed a water pump and that was all I changed, I didn't mess with the timing chain at all and I have 230k on it, still runs great!

    • @rb88dhb
      @rb88dhb 3 года назад

      @@Gangster_Elmo I hope your right Cuz all I need is the water pump and don’t wanna mess with all the timing! I do a LOT of DIY mechanics from volvos to fords to my 3 Suzuki’s but if I gotta do all this for water pump I’ll just junk it! Mines an 2006. In 2007 they made the pump on outside, 6 bolts n not all this. I went half this far last year taking all the top end n throttle linkage off n stuff to replace EGR VALVE, but at 185k and I got it 3+ yrs ago if it can’t be done without all the timing chains n extra time/money. I think it’ll see a scrap yard first. Sad but true as this is my 4th with the 2.5-2.7(Xl7s) and 1 tracker but it had the straight 4.🤷‍♂️😏
