  • I bought a used ARE DCU (Deluxe Commercial Unit) truck cap for my 2017 Nissan Frontier. I needed it for my pest and wildlife control business. It was equipped with BOLT/Strattech locks which are solid locks. Unfortunately they couldn't be re-keyed and the local ARE Dealer wasn't much help. Strattech sent me replacement cams when I called them and this video shows how to replace them so you can rekey a used truck cap.

In my case an attempted breakin ruined an ARE (not a bolt) lock - Zero support for finding a replacement, never mind one keyed the same - Buying a Bolt tumbler meant not adding a third key to the mix. The ten year old cams couple perfectly with the Bolt replacement. You just have to find the appropriate Bolt tumbler for your truck year and model - And FYI the e-clips are 1/4"

I too am unable to get any help from bolt customer service. They said nothing like this exists. Would you happen to have the part number from the packaging?

That sucks.... I'm sorry they are telling you that.... they clearly sent it to me as it just popped right in. Maybe you should offer them the link to the video and see if that helps your memory. They are working really well so I hope they bring them to market and help others out.

Video is great, however I just talked to strattech twice and they say they don't make the replacement cam, I need 3 of them! I bought and keyed 3 cylinders and that's fine but I cannot fund the cam anywhere! HELP!

Make sure you call the support for BOLT which I thought was part of strattech. I might have gotten a pre-release product out of sheer dumb luck. When I spoke to someone he said it was going to be available to ARE later this year. Anyhow, they (BOLT/Strattech) sent them to me, and as you can see in the video they clearly exist and work.

I called Bolt customer service. Bolt doesn't, or no longer, has anything to do with the needed Cam. They told me to contact A.R.E. , but they won't talk to me either. This sucks. 3 useless cylinders, non returnable.
