In this video I get a replacement cylinder from Bolt to key the lock to my trucks ignition key. Pretty slick setup if you ask me!
This was exactly what I needed. Thank you very much for making this video. Much appreciated!
Your welcome!
Thank you for posting this. Helped me find the proper locks and how to replace them. Bought a used ARE DCU max for my Sierra. Hated having 2 identical keys (one for cap, one for my truck) now only need one key. Much appreciated.
No problem, I can vouch for the durability of the cylinders at this point as mine is still working great! I'm glad it helped!
now if only i can figure out how to tighten one of the handles. I have the two rear doors and that handle is a little loose. But both side boxes work well.
Leer wanted $100 per lock and we have 15 trucks with 3 doors on each canopy. Thank you for saving me big bucks!!!
Wow! They sure are padding that number! Glad you found the video!
I bought a truck used from auction that came with the bed cap and I never thought to use my ignition key…. A year later of owning the truck and I come across this video and what do ya know my ignition key locks it! Thank you
@@MohammadOthman-d8o haha that is awesome!
Thanks for the links!! I found some for my commercial cap. 👍
Your welcome! I love having it keyed the same!
Super cool lock. I’d never hear of that. Thanks for the link.
Yeah I absolutely love it! I don't know why they are not more popular!
Thanks for the video! Funny story, after watching this video, I went outside, and tried my truck keys on a used cap I just bought for the truck. They worked! I had no idea the locks could be keyed to someone’s vehicle, and what are the odds they would have been keyed to the same truck keys I have?? Would have never tried this if I hadn’t watched your video.
Wow, yeah you had better go buy a lottery ticket haha!
@@Tyler_Koehn haha, you’re probably right 😂
Good evening Sir, great fixe !!! Keep up the good work Cheers !!!
Thanks for watchin buddy!
Thank you for this! I had no idea.
No problem! Its a slick setup! I love it!
Thank you for your help i have the same issue!
No problem! Thanks for watching! I love it!
Excellent video.
Thank you!
Good evening. Great video. I’m having trouble with mine, as the cylinder on the. ARE DCU I have (look identical), but the ones on my topper are smaller, and have a nut on the bottom that retain the locking cam. Trestle BOLT cylinders are bigger and looks like the locking cam has to be retained differently. If you still have your setup, reckon you can send me a closeup pic of how it looks on the inside. I’m sure after seeing how yours looks, I should be able to work around it. Thanks
Interesting. Yeah I can snap some pics for you. Drop your number and I'll delete the comment when I copy it.
Muchas gracias necesitaba mucho este video
de nada
Very well explained
Thank you Jose!
Thanks for the video. So there's no way to "reprogram" an existing lock? Say you change the truck but keep the cap.
Your welcome. As far as I know you cannot rekey it after the initial time. Kind of feels like you cut the pins when you turn it so I would think you would need a new cylinder.
I'm doing the same thing for ARE DCU I purchased used. I plan to paint it to match my truck as well. Did you paint yours?
Hey Kenneth, Yeah these caps sure are nice to have and the ignition key makes it easy too! I still haven't painted it and to be honest I'm not sure that I'm going to anymore. I think i'm just too used to it now that I don't care haha
Know of any T-handles that are compattable with the toyota cylinder? I ordered one from amazon and it doesn't fit my 5 handle.
Thanks for watching! Please subscribe!
Thank you for the video.
Your welcome Mike!
wow!
Thank you very much!
No problem Tim!
Hi! What's the part number of cylinder do you used?
Hey there. I've got links in the video description to all the major manufacturer keys.
sweet
Yeah I really have liked the idea. Wish i had thought of it! Haha
How did you take off the plastic piece behind the cylinder lock?
Are you referring to the gasket I took off the old one and put on the new one? If so mine was more or less a rubber washer that just slipped off when pulled.
No, on mine right behind the cylinder is a black plastic piece that looks to hold the cylinder in place
@@justinglori685 Oh I gotchya, unfortunately mine did not have that. They just had a jam nut that sandwiched it to hold in place
@@Tyler_Koehn thank you sir. Great video as well.
@@justinglori685 I appreciate that bud!
Has anyone try this with old dodge truck key like a 1996 because on amazon it say it isn't a forsure fit just wanting to know before I buy them
Hey Bobby, it should work with #85 according to their website for a 96 ram. amzn.to/3bUpB7A
