Nathan Lane Says Dicks: The Musical Is for the Gays - Late Night with Seth Meyers

I saw Nathan Lane on Broadway in "It's Only A Play". He & Matthew Broderick were cutting up so badly while delivering their lines that they had to look away from the audience to try & keep from laughing. Everyone in the audience realized what they were doing, & our laughter got louder & louder until both Lane & Broderick just lost it & also started laughing. It was one of the best nights I've had on Broadway. Thank you, Mr. Lane. I truly love your performances; you're the best!
They work so well together and play off each other great. It's hard when the power two of them work together because they just make each other break
😂That sounds amazing & unforgettable!
OMG me too it was the best time ever. I had to go back and see them again they were so great!
First time i went to new york was planned around going to see play, nathan lane didn't show up, and I still feel very sad about it 😢, loved his understudy tho!
My new PCP is named Nathan Lane and I told my friends I hoped he was also a gay man, but he didn’t set off my gaydar one iota. Sigh…
"Silly, absurdist, for the gaiiis, demented and depraved "😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It's physically impossible to express how much I adore this man. Also, I'm still bitter his sitcom was cancelled.
That sitcom was BRILLIANT 🥹🥹🥹
Nathan Lane's description of Dicks' the musical - priceless !
Seattle has had a hamburger shop since 1954, named Dick's Drive In.
Back in the 1970s, they had their old motto on a T shirt: "Dick's -- Where the meat makes the difference!" those shirts sold very well in the Capitol Hill neighborhood (Seattle's original gay district).
Capitol Hill is STILL the gayborhood and Dick's just got renovated. I said we should have made t-shirts that said, "Check out the new Dick's in the gayborhood!"
Seattle: the only town where "eat a bag of Dick's!" Is not an insult.
He’s so old school with those dumb one-liners, I love it
Nathan is such a treasure! He makes me laugh so much and that's the best medicine!
Yes this is random, but I need a buddy cop style film starring Nathan Lane and Ian McKellen. Hollywood, make it happen.
Lets all face it here... ... the Sewer Boys on the subway is probably the least weird thing going on in that subway car...
_SNL_ would agree
Haven't had a good "cinematic enema" in ages! 😂
It's the Ka'Chava of sound and stage
I wasn't sure I wanted to see this, but when I heard the names "Whisper" and "Backpack", I was in.
I just love Nathan Lane.
Someone explain this please for the international viewers
@@SuperToobzz There is nothing to explain. The joke is just that the names make zero sense whatsoever: They don't have anything in common, nor are they opposites, they're not cute names for any reason and they can't have any significance. They're not even both objects, just 2 words that have possibly never been used together for any reason, so much so that it seems like it took a lot of effort just to come up with 2 words that unrelated and meaningless.
I think that's why he said that's the indicator for whether or not you'll like the movie, because a lot of the humour in it is just based on the absurdity of random things coming out of nowhere and not making sense! For example, the mom accidentally pours a cup of sand instead of tea and says she mixed up the containers because "I make my own sand." Also, here's the dialogue from when the parents run into each other for the first time:
Dad: "EVELYN??? Wow, how long has it been?"
Mom: "260 years."
Dad: "It's been 260 years since we've seen each other? That can't be right..."
Mom: "Ohhh, since WE'VE seen each othe-- I thought you meant since the French and Indian War."
🤣
Why would Mom's default assumption be that he was referring to the French and Indian War lollll
I see an interview with Lane and I know immediately it’s going to be a funny one.
‘As an award-winning actor, what’s going through your head?’
‘Are they going to take the awards back???’
Never have I ever seen an interview with Nathan Lane that was disappointing. What a guy!!!
I'm really glad I put my coffee down before Nathan said the Sewer Boys' names
I feel like that name reveal could just have easily come from Stephon talking about a couple of bouncers or D.J.s at New York's hottest club
*Stefon
“It’s the cinematic enema America’s been so desperate for” 😂 (writes that down)
Another nice interview!!! Kudos to the peeps behind the scenes and get this vids out so efficiently,. It is greatly appreciated.
I just love him! He was hilarious in The Bird Cage!
Such a GREAT movie. They need to show that more!
Also was great in Beau is Afraid!
I just had an edible and will find this musical funny. Especially with Bowen Yang in it.
Hearing that song clip made me realize I may be a queer man.
Wish we had footage of the production assistant with the Sewer Boys on the subway.
I would love to see this musical! I'm definitely open minded and have a sense of humor. Nathan Lane is a Joy !
It's hilarious to watch Nathan Lane playing a homosexual man😊
Why? Have you not seen The Birdcage? He’s also gay in real life.
@@michelledube3715 Yeah, right🤪
@@FreeFree-ur4zq I’m completely serious…Google it
“Keep it happy, keep it snappy, keep it gay” is really working
YES
2:46 whatever I was expecting 😂😂😂😂 I was so way way way way off 😂😂😂😂 😂 wildly hilarious 😂
Can’t wait to see this!
I just love your voice in the latest Disney animated short film.
Love Nathan. He's a hoot and this musical seems fabulous
What's going through your head? Ham. That's the right answer. Ham
Nathan is so sharp and funny. I love him.
You have to bring the show to Vegas!
We love your show seth meyers
Enough of this flim-flam and distraction, Seth
WHEN IS CICADA!CICADA! COMING TO BROADWAY?
We must know.
In the other half of the interview they said we'll get a preview of the Act I finale by April?!? Very excited
3:33 I can't 😂😂😂😂😂😂NYC is : unperturbed
This is awesome. Where do I watch? I'm in Australia
I'm glad Nathan hasn't quite retired from musicals just yet;
Whisper and Backpack images on all new Pampers packaging.
I say this with my whole heart and my whole ass: Dicks, the musical is probably the next Rocky horror picture show.
Are you guys working on Cicada, Cicada or not?
Aww.. mine isn't musical at all!
I’m not gay, but I do fit in all the other categories Nathan mentioned….👍🤪🏳️🌈
Congrats on coming out 😂. I'm just joking lol
@@finderkeeperrrs well, my daughter does refer to me as gay dad…😳
@@user-hf8ie8mf3n then like I said congrats 😂
2:31 walmartzzz 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🌟👌👏
Based on 'The Parent Trap.'
A cinematic 'enema.'
I want that green jacket. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🇬🇧
🎶Willies willies, I like willies.🎶
I've liked Nathan Lane since my Grandma bought us a movie staring him when I was a kid, but also he was brilliant in The Birdcage, and even child me could recognize his genius!
Never do anything bad, because too many people need you to be the good guy Nathan Lane!
the only reason I'm sad that I don't live in us is this guy, and not being able to see him live in theater :(
You know, I was aware of who Nathan Lane was more or less my whole life, but I was never really a fan of his until I saw Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and then I just adored him and had to watch everything with him in it. I guess I'm going to have to watch this next.
The Backpack and Whisper names went waaaaaay over my head. Can someone help a brother out? Thanks !
I think they’re just absurd names.
OMG and Meg Thee Stallion is in this too. And Bowan Yang from SNL. They were just on TV talking about it. He's the only openly Asian gay that I think I've ever seen before. He's funny on SNL.
George Takei?
Megan has a song in this called "Out Alpha The Alpha" and I've found myself humming it randomly.
Finally, a musical for the gays. They have been so ignored by Broadway for so, so long. :-)
Maybe ABC would have allowed "Richards: The Musical."
I think he looks better with a mustache
This made me look up the film and it looks freaking hilarious.
This is the first time Nathan sounds like he's aged in thirty years.
Love those Sewer Boys! Ham!
😆🤣👍
Timon From The Lion King
Just realized who John Mulany sounds like.
😭💀😭
Which is it, Whisper or Backpack?
I think he would be deeply moved by this comment.
If you want to laugh, see that movie... LOVED IT!
Finally! A musical for gays.
I don’t see Seth as a Dick. He’s more of an “in the bag” kind of cat
❤ The Queer Parent Trap❤ Dicks the movie comming soon ❤😊
Couldn't he plug in the second season of the gilded age while he was there? The show needs all the support it can get if it is to survive the hbo axe.
He might not have been able to promote the show due to the SAG strike. All the A24 films received a waiver because they met the strike demands.
Azul
I will see any movie with sewer boys in it.
I thought they were going to be like poolboy type characters
Demented & depraved with Nathan Lane - yes, please 🙏🙏
Please tell me I'm not the only one who momentarily misread the video title and thought "Nathan Lane Says Dicks: The Musical" was the name of the movie.
It is honest to live your truth😅leviticus 10:9, 23:31
A musical for the GOP 😅
Ok, I am calling it, Nathan Lane is hereby awarded the title of Honorary Gay! This man is a national treasure! He should be celebrated, his appearance here and the trailer convinced me to see the movie!
Not honorary. 🤣
"Honorary"? Oh, sweetie.
Yes, Honorary, as in deserving of Honor. We don't have knighthood or OBE's here in the states, and I have loved anything he has been in, so that will have to do.
@@artgreig7069 "Honorable" might be what you're going for. Cause there's nothing honorary about his gayness.
@@thatjillgirl Long as it comes with a title.
*incredibly vague spoiler warning*
I just saw DTM last night and you are not prepared for how much of the movie is about the fucking sewer boys lmao. Mind you, this was a positive in my experience, it just took me off guard when they kept coming back into the plot.
😂🎉❤😂🎉❤😂🎉❤😂🎉❤
How is this guys show still going
Aren't literally ALL musicals for gays? Saying this as one of course.
Being effeminate doesn’t mean ur gây
Is this movie real or am I drunk?
Seths forced laugh is almost as creepy as tucker carlsons
WTF IS THIS MOVIE 😂
First?
It really is.
It was so much fun to watch straight couples walk out.
Bros wishes it was that funny.
How are Bowen & Nathan Lane promoting this movie without violating the SAG strike?
It's an A24 production... they are not part of the AMPTP and are abiding by the terms of the SAG-AFTRA offer. So they've agreed to everything SAG is fighting for with the AMPTP.
@@EricaGametmovie? It’s a movie? I thought it was a broadway play and SAG stands for “screen actors guild” doesn’t it?
I could be full of it, but I don’t see the overlap
@@bigl6322 It’s a movie. They showed a clip and said “opening in theaters nationwide.”
@@bigl6322any movie you see promoted will be an A24 production. There have been a few made during the strike as well.
@@EricaGamet that will teach me to pay attention
Shouldn't Nathan Lane be on strike with SAG/AFTRA? How is he able to promote a movie? Asking for a friend......who's me!
It’s not a blanket strike! It’s only a strike against the big studios that are fighting against contract demands. As far as I understand, A24 (who are producing and distributing this movie) agreed to all demands and were never affected by the strike.
I thought actors can't promote their shows during the actor's strike
@@Midori_Seabreeze I didn't know that. I still think it's a bad look, especially as many people watching the show will not have read the New York Times article about it. Like myself. Although I do subscribe to the paper!
A24 agreed to apply all of the writers requests/demands and so due to meeting their requirements they got the ok/waiver to proceed
But The Parent Trap is already for the gays... both versions.
I don't care what any celebrity says or does. Jimmy's monologues are good minus the stupid attempts at comedy.
A straight man cages 2 'sewer' girls as pets. Even as satire how would that work today? Your honest answer says a lot about where we are.
Love Nathan lane but this was probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen
