If you and Paul are still on speaking terms, you should check out the tub he bought for his albinos. It's preformed to allow for a big, beep swimming area on one side and on the other side, it's shallow but allows for substrate and hides. Simple but ingenious, although not particularly pleasing to the eye esthetically speaking (but no real difference from what you already have).
Turbo is beyond cute, smashing little fella. Nice video great information. I'm a former Red Eared Slider owner, he escaped from his enclosure when I put him out to bask in the Sun 😭
I wish I could show you my set up but living here in Michigan I’ve been keeping turtles for some time now. I currently have a 360 gallon tub where I keep my turtles. My 2 old men out of my small group will be turning 21 this year
Thanks for all the vids!! I was wondering if it is alright to take logs, rocks, and other natural decor to put inside a turtle tank. I just took in a Reeves Turtle and want to make his home as natural as possible but we do not have the space for an outdoor pond so building up a 40g tank for now.
To everyone suggesting plecos, they do not actually eat algae like they are commonly thought to do. Pet stores sell them as algae eaters because most people don’t know any better. They actually are scavengers and mainly feed on waste, excess food and wood. By consuming those things, the amount of nutrients in the water column is greatly reduced, in turn using up the food the algae needs to grow. To the aquarium owner, they then believe the pleco “ate” the algae. But once the pleco reaches a certain size, they create more waste than they consume and basically crash a system. So in short, plecos aren’t good for aquariums.
What I did to control my algae problem was adding a pleco to the turtle tank, it helped with the algae in the tank and on the turtle shell (really funny to see the pleco riding on the turtles back), I also use otos (otocinclus) great algae eaters and too fast for the turtle to be able to eat them.
I have tried adding plecos to my outdoor tube with 2 RES in it, but they only last for 3 days before they are "gone". After that i just let the algae grow since they are good for removing some amonia anyway. The only downside is i need to clean my RES more frequently to keep their shell clean from algae.
How big are the RES compared to the plecos? If the RES are a lot bigger and are too aggressive it would be a bad idea, I introduced a young pleco when my RES were still young, so they kinda grew up together. Also water temp could have been a problem, if it gets too cold the plecos may no survive.
When i put the plecos (±3 inch long) my RES are about that size too. And I'm sure i have pretty consistent water temp at that time (±29°C). Also i give my RES a food before introducing the plecos, so i never thought they would gone so fast.
Did they vanish or did you find the torn bodies in the tub? Your tub is outside, maybe something else got to them? Unless your RES are really aggressive which is weird... is your tub big enough to accommodate all of them with plenty of swimming space? Don't know what to tell you, never had issue with RES and any kind of fish being in the same place.
@@SoullForsaken well yeah, they are torn apart. Body part over here, body part over there. Also i have wire mesh as cover and the only predator in where i live is either a mouse or cat, so it's enough. My RES is nice to other turtle but not to any kind of fish 😅. Before this pleco, i put some albino corry too. Luckily i notice their tail is messed up badly on the next day, so i remove them immediately.
What's the correct spacing for a 50-watt halogen bulb I only have a 10 gallon tank right now until next week until I get a bigger tank but I'm dealing with a baby red eared slider I want to make sure it's happy and healthy so I'm doing the research but I trust his channel a lot more for the help
I'm using a 100 gallon stock tank to keep my turtle in side for the winter. I made a enclosure on the top and a dock made out wood . Scream top to set basking lamp on . It seams to work real well . I'm using one of the out side ponds fountain filter for filtration . Plus it moves the water .
Learning the hard way bro. A few things I would avoid. One your tank probably has way to much real sun light hitting it. two The medium in the tank doesn't look flushed due to the color of the water. three even though that's a small turtle I think you need a much larger filter for that size tank.
What is the best thing to use for getting algae off of a turtles shell?i have a baby Alligator snapping turtle and I don’t want to hurt him,I just need to know the best thing to get it all off. Thank you for the information and your love for all of God’s beautiful creatures. Love your videos man God bless you
definitely needed some serious algae eaters in that tank! would have had a field day, and with all that sun, they'd probably have a constant supply of food
On my channels intro video I explain how it all started with turtles - they’ll always be my first love! I’m really contemplating getting a turtle section for the channel !
Snails are probably better as they can just continue to breed better than fish anyway, and the baby snails (as long as they aren't poisonous) are perfect for little terrapins to eat, as well as other turtles.

Now I’ve gotta go look 😜😆😆
personally I buy the 45 gallon cement mixing tubs from home depot. work very well if you’re on a budget
if it’s not in stock, go online and place an order for pickup in store
LOL when Turbo tried to bite your finger with is tiny mouth, he is adorable
Word of the day: aquariist; one who curates or builds aquariums.
That’s such a cute turtle.
I agree . Not going to like it made me want to het oen again haha
He is so adorable! Love watching him swim! Reminds me of when my turtle was a baby! Awesome video!!
Hard to beat having those tubs on hand. I even pick up the Zoo Med turtle tubs from time to time off Craigslist 👍🏼

If you go to bulk reef supply they will sell strainers you can add to the standpipe. Keeps the pipe clean and easy to pull out and clean as needed.

silk screen with a rubber band would work well for that PVC pipe.

Don't diamondbacks prefer or need brackish water?
There is no such thing as "Turtle Tube" in here, so i just buy second hand Koi Fiber Pond (which is expensive) but never regret that decision :)

Why not put plekos in the water of different aquariums?
Get some small pleco's for your terrapin tub to keep the algae down.
John G pleco eating algae is a myth. They eat left over food and waste which is turn cuts down the nutrients in the water and results in less algae but then they get big enough where they create more waste then they get rid of and actually causes more algae.
Love the videos! Keep it up.
You need some snails in there to eat the algae
Some hardy plants to help with the nutrient cycle as a whole would also help
lovely stuff
Thank you!!
If u cycle the tank it ain't impossible , but if u rush it like u did it's a different story....
No need to be a "aquarist"
Cycling the tank would change nothing in a turtle tank that’s outside.

Why don’t u add sucker fish to eat the algie ?
Just cycle the tank and add shade, it should be fine.
