Thanks for this information! Pre knee replacement surgery, my knee is so shot that I use my sink to help lower & raise myself. I also live alone, so I am quite worried. Tfs!
@@MissTXTee Hi, I stayed with my Mom for 8 days. Then I went home which has 15 stairs. I did very well as I had to do 15 stairs~up & down 3 times a week for physio. In a few months I'm getting my left knee done.
After watching this, i noted that if you have a problem with your shoulders especially with (Arthur Rightis :) getting up from that position could be a problem for many. Your wrists will get a beating also, every time you push to get up. It's very important to PRACTICE all the movements you will have to do at home, BEFORE your surgery. Some pre-op exercises will help if you are able to do some, check with the surgeon. Getting your house in order a MUST if you live alone or not. Make a list to amke sure you will have all you will need, and do a dry run as if you'v had the surgery already. You can immobilize your leg somewhow to see what you will be able to do when you get home after you procedure. I had my first bi-latera( both on the same day)l knee surgery in 2005 . I lived alone with 2 dogs, and had prepared my home and myself for what I knew was coming my way. It was painful but I got on because I was prepared. It took close to a year before I could feel great. I was a CNA and worked in skilled nursing for 40 years with a background in rehab. so I was so ready. ICE packs were my dearest friends and since they were readily available to me on my shift, I would apply one as needed on my breaks. I will be having a left knee revision next month because of the first implant has deteriorated as did the right one that was revised 2 yrs. ago. Get as much information as you will need so you can be prepared and have the best possible outcome . Take one day at a time, do only what you are able to do, you have weeks to recover. Make sure you have the best pain management so you can deal with physical therapy. Have a grabber, walker , set up your bedroom, shower chair and a shower leg cover( IF NEEDED) cushons etc. get you pedicure done too, account for swelling of your foot so a pair of adjustable shoes is important. Follow your dr. and rehab instructions but do YOUR homework. You won't be able to do household cleaning UNTIL you recover, unless you have a cleaning lady ... I don't so I get all that stuff done BEFORE. If you have a threadmill as I do ,that is great so you can do some walking at home. I pray that everyone who will be getting this done will recover with minimal amount of pain and get stronger every day. Pray for your surgeon as well.... (????? ) My comment is based on the fact that I lived alone when I had my surgeries and still do. If you have someone at home to help you out, then thats wonderful. Because I live alone , I know what to expect and what to do.
OMG!! Your thoughtful, timely suggestions are such a comfort to me! Having rt foot surgery Friday, and Googled how to prepare for surgery. Feel like I have most things in place, bit like you - I'm on my own. I live in a large house w/6 roommates- we'll see how much help they offer😂. Thk you, feel like you are speaking DIRECTLY to me - your new internet bff😅😊
Great advice thank you. I am having TKR surgery in the next couple of weeks (terrified 😮) but I found your info so I'll be a bit more prepared, thank you again!
@@lozza58 I had my 4th knee surgery on Nov. 15 23. I am still currently recovering and it's a long haul. Stiffness is a major problem as is some residual pain. I went through rehab at home( my choice) and I still have to do my exercises. I had revision of both knees and the procedure is quite invasive, but needed. I hope you recover speedily and that in just a few more weeks you will be just fine. Be patient with yourself as everyone heals at a different speed. Make sure you use ice packs and some gentle Heat on the knee. Take your prescribed pain medication as you will need it especially before you have rehab sessions. You are special and you will be OK. God bless you.
Thanks for this video. I'm fixing to have TKR and I'm one of those people who have to get up rather urgently in the night at least once to tinkle. I was thinking I would either have to wear a depends or probably wet myself. Neither one appeals to me lol. I'm definitely going to get the 3 in one chair.
Can you show a video on how to get in bathroom when you have a cast on your foot & can not put weight on it & it is a small bathroom you can not get walker in!! Can you show a video of how you do that ?
I just had my ankle fused on Tuesday and I would highly recommend a toilet set hight extension. Makes sitting and getting up so much easier. Good luck with your husbands operation !
I had a stroke and my left foot is pretty weak when I'm walking and I use a cane. I have to have bunion and hammer toe surgery on my right foot. how will I be able to walk after the surgery?
Right! What IS it about post surgical information for patients with helping us to safely attend to the after effects of urine and bowel movements results the patient is encourged to have ... but nope, Mr and Ms Patient, do do NOT move past 90 degrees! We Americans are super creeoy about out the material expelled from our bodies as a result of our nutrional intake!
If using toilet pull your under wear/ sweats down to ur knee then sit down do your business then stand up balance on one side to pull up underwear/ sweats then lean against wall and bring other side of under wear & sweats up. If at night for men go commando or wear loose fitting shorts then urinate in a pee container, have a small wash clothes to catch drippings it helps instead of going to toilet dyring late noght/ early morning.
And where is help from this video on post urine or bowel movement hygiene as patient is not allowed to twist body to use toilet tissue or wet cloths to achieve cleanliness?
Hello Catherine - altho' watching this vid after my own total hip and no doubt your own - Europeans have had bidets in their toilets for decades, so in USA INC there is no excuse for this feature to NOT be included as part of the mfrgr'ing but now bidets can be installed manually by the homeowner themself w/no plumbing knowledge or tools. Water hose/spout are affixed to back of toilet to shoot a stream of water at your backside in lieu of toilet paper - think of how many trees are saved from destruction by the lumber industry and how far more hygienic than toilet paper!
Agree w previous
90 degree limitations Not addressed
Also use of toilet paper would be helpful
O
She makes it look so easy
Ong like you can’t bend your shit
Your leg?

Oh wow! How did you manage post-surgery or did you end up finding someone to stay with you?

Get a urinal. If a woman I don't know what your best plan is.

Oh boy- I might have the same issue. Just remembered my moms restroom is small. 😩
Grab bars. Hold on to seat getting down and up
I could use similar tips for doing this in kneebrace. Unable to bend the leg
Thank you! Husband will be having reconstructive foot surgery soon.

Yup, just ordered bedside toilet - I go often, and don't want to have an accident;) Thks for all the comments & suggestions RUclipsrs!!😂❤
Wiping after hip surgery?
Thank you for this!
What if you have bad arthritis in other knee?
I had a stroke and my left foot is pretty weak when I'm walking and I use a cane. I have to have bunion and hammer toe surgery on my right foot. how will I be able to walk after the surgery?
You can't put both feet on the ground if you have a leg brace like me.
It was hard but i got a bedside toilet so that really helped!!
You didn't address HOW you use toilet paper with your injury!

I see her bending foward, what about that important 90 deg angle ?
Yes, I don't believe this is the best video out there.

A little but of pain? Have you had bunion surgery? The pain is only second to a toothache.
Thanks
Which surgery but ?
That toilet seat rusts in the shower
Never showed how to use in shower
This is definitely one of the least useful videos I have watched in preparation for posterior hip replacement. It is a "meh"!
Good
Not loud enough.
Just don't think the demonstration is realistic for somebody has had a THR
Who do you get to empty the commode I wonder!?😅
Terrible video.
Can't hear, too far away
Very poor demonstration
