Thank you for the awesome food tour. Haven’t been home due to Covid. 628 market was my neighborhood growing up. Haven’t been there for years!! Good to see some familiar hawkers still around!!
welcome back piggy happy new year . missed your blogs last few weeks especially these hidden gems love sg not been enough looking forward to my next visit , now educate me what is pow pow kopi. i love strong but sweet coffee. lee
Hehe.. Haven’t been up to it for a while.. glad to be back too. There’s a great difference between enjoying the food leisurely and having to film it 😅 The pow pow simply means bubble bubble in mandarin.. that’s how the stall lady described it. I’m not sure how they did it as the production line was way back behind the stall. It’s similar to Teh Chino craze back in the 90s. But it’s kinda strong and bitter. If you like sweet.. you must order Kopi “Kaaa Taai” meaning extra condense milk 🥛
Wow I didn't know you were filming near my house in AMK. I wished the Ho Bee Roasted Food stall was opened at that time when you were filming because their roasted pork rice is really delicious.
This market had been around since the 80’s. They shifted few different place already. Once there was a big fire during cny period and they had no market for awhile. The food stall that had queue are pretty much legit and nice. But the coffee stall is not my favorite one even though they used to be my neighbors 😅 There used to be a coffee stall there that sell one of the best coffee I had tasted but they retired few years back. The roast meat and stuff stall their meat so so nia. There’re better one that taste nicer in teck ghee court market. Thanks for bringing back the old memories.
Wow. Thanks for sharing 😊 so much details. I love to patronise Kopi stalls with very old folks. Many of them refuse to increase price even when the coffee beans have become so expensive. It’s like they have this principle not to overcharge their old friends. Many of them have retired in recent years when health became an issue for most of them. A lifetime of being a humble hawker. Singapore’s true heroes
Each and every stall had mouth watering, delicious food and nice and friendly hawkers. I would probably do like you, stop by each one and buy something, hard to resist and prices are still so cheap compared to other countries. Thanks for another great video! 😊😋💕🙏
There are still many old residents who find it hard to get by.. which is why most hawkers try to keep their pricing Low. I do see hawkers not charging them or just asking for $2. Imagine 40years back.. a bowl of noodles was just $1.50. The disparity of income here is rather staggering
Nice. One of the market I rarely visit. Probably the only stall I ever frequent is the nasi padang, will buy lunch for my maid. Was hoping you might cover the jumbo prawn stall, always interested, never visited. Wonton mee looks good. Maybe will go over this Thursday with some friends.
The Jumbo prawn like zzz.. so I featured those oldies ones first..some said there's another wanton mee facing hdb blocks that's even better.. Happy Sunday Eggie 😁
The assortment of bakery items at that one stall looked very enticing 😋. Was hoping to come to SG around CNY but may have to wait for summer, hopefully omicron travel restrictions would be relaxed by then.
Stayed AMK block 631 during my childhood days......I missed it so much!!!! there is a dry pork mee store and been there for more than 30 yrs!!! sadly after the son take over yrs later they closed due to personnel reason.......
I remember there was another fishball/mushroom noodle stall with a similar sounding name facing the hdb side, just next to the entrance into tye market that side (that leads to the 2 aquariums). When u order from them, they will always ask if u want fishball type or mushroom type.
The stall that selling roast meat everything is the star attraction here. That stall is calling me, must resist temptation, can't visit Singapore... yet.
Piggy mate, I have put Ang Mo Kio on my list of HCs to do when I'm over in a couple of weeks time (inshallah). It just looks so authentically suburban Singaporean. If you see a tall, fat, old white guy with a big straw hat around town it is almost certainly me. Please say hello. Kung Hei Fat Choi mark
AMK itself has so many hawkers centres.. I’d recommend one with the Bak Kut Teh. Pepper pork ribs. Pls hydrate lots.. it’s normal to be drenched in this heat. 😀
@@Piggypuggy Thanks Piggy. I have put the Bak Kut Teh place on list (I feel a bit like Arya Stark here). As for hydration, yes, I will drink LOTS of water, juices and other drinks. Oh, and also a lot of craft beer but that is an evening thing.

Had been enjoying watching your videos for quite a while with family, but your comeback videos after your new year break is sadly too dizzy to watch to the end. Firstly the colors are now way too saturated then before and perhaps it's too tightly shot, so it made every of your turning, swerving movement just too fast to truly see the details. Maybe you might wanna try using a gyro and opt to shoot in a slightly wide angle lens? Looking fwd to be able to enjoy watching the once wonderful food videos from you again.
😅 changed a cam for this.. Color science indeed tooo saturated. Parts of it has quite some panning but I retained it to preserve the noise behind. I get what you mean.. too much panning makes viewing nauseous 😅 thanks for your valid feedback and support
hey Puggy, you Kaypoh at the market stalls again huh? lol, now, you only need to buy a pair of red clogs to complete your look. ahaha (red clogs : klik klok, klik klok, char kuey teow : kling klang kling klang = the maketh of a KayPoh & Kia Lai Kia Kee King in Singapore)

I wonder why in Singapore the majority of food sellers are elderly people. Where are the young children?? As a developed country, doesn't the Singapore government provide assistance such as old age guarantees for them, so that even at the age of their masters they have to work hard to fight for life😭😭😭
Darn PP now I want Char sui Wanton mee, and fishball mee and Yow tio and banana fritters ( with ice cream) and pancake and some roast duck and char sui, and sui yok and that rolled lemongrass pork loin. Your camera swings too much, makes my Mom and I dizzy watching the video, really hope you could improve on that. In face, a few months back, I actually praised your camera-works, somehow you started swinging the camera now :(
Yes indeed.. especially when walking about. Should have left them out. Thanks for your feedback. Super stabilising the cam also takes on quite a toll on my old knees. Really takes the joy out of me visiting a hawker when I need to move like a movie production cam crew on a dolly. Which is the reason why I tried a more casual approach for myself to avoid burn out on producing these videos. Thanks again.. let me see if I can reduce those shaky footage.
Thank you for your honest feedback.. I myself can’t take too much shakey footage. Coz I’m old 😂. Please do skip forward if it’s too nauseous for your mom. Or ask her to close and rest eyes for a while. Just listen to the background noise. I wouldn’t want her to get dizzy 🥴 . Will try my best to balance which is more important to keep.
