Very versatile tractors. They are good little tractors, good name to, Wheel Horse, designed and firs made by the Pond brothers which one of them split and stated the Speedex tractor company from Akron/Canton Ohio.
The early 551 also had a cut choke/throttle plate like the early 401 for the serial #. It was mounted on the plastic cover over the rectifier on the engine. I have one of these early 551's.
Hello, I have this same 1961 model 401 tractor and will be restoring it soon. I am so excited to have been able to find someone that has the same wheel horse and that has knowledge about it. My wheel horse needs to have the transmission gone through/rebuilt as the shifter had been removed from the previous owner and it is locked in gear. Just wondering where to get replacement gears and what type of fluid to use in this transmission? Hoping you might be doing a video on rebuilding this transmission. Thanks for sharing your videos, they are very helpful.
Replacement gears are hard to find, they have to come from a used transmission or somebody selling parts because they're not made any more. Use SAE90 or 80 gear oil. I did a series of 8 videos about 4 years ago on rebuilding a 1960 transmission, it's the same as 1961. So check out the older videos on my channel.

I got a 1967 857 wheel horse came with plow and roller the engine is a 8 horse
Is it possible to find a set of front tires, solid rubber airless. That match the back wheels. About half with of 6.400.8.
I don't think I've ever seen solid rubber tires that size.
