That actually looks like a hell of a lot of fun!
It is!! We highly recommend!
Awesome!! The will be me in 10 days lol!! Thanks for this!
Excellent! Have a great time out there, be safe, and enjoy!!
This was a great video! I had lumbar fusion surgery due to a work injury at my hospital I work at and I'm so limited on what i can do for now but this is what I'm aiming for! I'm hoping I can get a race done by the end of this year. Great video guys!
Thank you!! And good luck at your race if you do one by the end of this year. Take it easy out there, and be safe. Stay healthy, and best to you - AROO!
Once again great seeing you out there.
Effel tower...well she was a dirty one.
HA! Good looks on the refence, just couldn't resist 😂 Great seeing you my friend, hope to see you again later this season, and perhaps out on the trails here at home!
This was only my second race ever but i felt ready due to faithfully watching your content , so when i got to race along side you it was a dream come true. You are the best!!
Marcel - thank you so much! This is exactly what we love to hear and why we keep the content flowing. Some people get motivation from races and film, but Mack and I thrive on the community - you all rock! Hope to see you again out there!
I’m committed to doing one this year. Earning my Spartan medal.
Excellent!! Good luck at your race, be safe, and have a great time!
@@OCRKings Boom
I’m 55 and plan to do my first OCR this year. Would love a video on how to get started and training.
Thanks for the perfect video idea! We will get on that. When is your race?
Oh man that was an awesome race, I remember meeting you guys at the finish line, it was a pleasure. I could see myself around 7:35. Thanks for inspiring OCR kings!
Thank you my friend!
I love what you had to say about the Z Wall. I had my first race a few weeks ago and the Z Wall was so caked with mud, I couldn't get any traction. It's reassuring knowing it's not always that bad lol
Right on! Z Wall with tons of mud is a way harder. Glad it's not always like that. When it's nice and dry, it's a fun obstacle. How did you do? How was your race overall?
@@OCRKings oh my race was very rough. I picked Palmerton to be my first race without realizing its intensity. It took me a rough 6 hours to complete, which is a very low baseline. But I have a second sprint in Niigata coming up soon, so hopefully I fare better!
Palmerton is no joke! Hats off to you for choosing that one as your first race!
Nice!!! Love the POV 👍
Thanks! 👍
Aww. That's awesome guys. Thanks for sharing this. This is what I need to get motivated. Watching it over and over. 🤪
Awesome! Thank you!
I remember being young when I first saw spartan race videos and not that I’m in my 20s I wanna do one even more
Excellent, you should! Go for it!
This looks fun
It is thanks!
Awesome...good race. obstacles look easy on you 😄
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing! Doing my first race this weekend in Ontario and watching this gave me some hope 😅
Excellent! Good luck at your first race and have a great time!!
Can't wait for my Spartan Sprint later this year!
Right on! Good luck out there, be safe, and have a great race!
I am soooo ready for that
Aroo!
Can't wait to do it this november
Excellent, good luck out there and have a great race!
Just did 5k in red deer. The only mud I saw was going under water the one time which soaked me for the whole race. But other then that absolutely nothing compared to the mud hole you guys raced in. Totally different races
Oh wow, drought situation? We've noticed some other races we've done this year had very little mud. Wondering if it's a fuel cost concern if there is a need to truck in water, or if local sources have dried up. We are in a bit of a heat wave and very little rain in the last several weeks here. I'm guessing that many locations are experiencing the same. Did they have a fire jump? Sure sign of drought is no fire jump at the end. We experienced that in CA.
@@OCRKings No drought this year. Its actually been a nice balance of both rain and heat. There was a fire to jump at the end. I'm most definitely not complaining about lack of mud. Your guys race looked brutal and made mine look like a cake walk to be honest
My little brother just did this race today at Red deer. He finished 8th place!!! 😀his first time .
Nice work!! Congrats!
I raced at red deer too! Great job 👏 and thanks for all the content 👍
You two are awesome, I just sent the video to my boyfriend as I am introducing him to the world of OCR this year. Can't wait for the season to start, still hope to catch yinz at a race sometime!
Thank you!! And excellent, please welcome your boyfriend to the OCR community for us, glad you are introducing him to racing! Which even are you guys planning to do? Hopefully, we'll see you there - AROO!
@@OCRKings I don't have any Spartans on my calendar as it stands. My races are just a few this year because I'm going to Italy so my funds have shifted there. But I'm doing Tough mudder in Philly, Pittsburgh and WTM. Along with Barber Beast on the Bay, Steel City Showdown and possibly Indian mud run in Ohio. I might do Spartan WV as well.
I was there too . It was an amazing time
Agreed! Great event, great weather, great people.
Great job guys, hope to see you in Texas
Thanks! We hear Texas in October is perfect weather for a Spartan race... might be seeing that for ourselves!
That looked like a really fun, really MUDDY time!
It was!
About to do my first spartan race in Colorado with my dojo. This really gets me hyped!!
Excellent! Enjoy, best to you and everybody going with you from your dojo. Have a great time and enjoy - AROO!
@@OCRKings Thanks!!
Damn, this one bordered on being a tough mudder too!
Yeah man, tons of mud and water at this one!
good work OCR Kings
Thanks!
Another great vid! Start of the season seems really close now - TM North London in just over 4 weeks, then get a first and only try at the final Dirty Weekend in May
Thanks and good luck at TM and DW. That's a shame the Dirty Weekend is shutting down. I hope that May 7th weekend will be one of legends!
Ready to go tomorrow 2022
Excellent! Good luck and enjoy!
@@OCRKings Thank u. ⭐️
Way to go guys!
Thank you!
Sorry I missed this event, it looks like it was fun
Yes it was!
I'm jealous that you guys got an early start on the OCR season. Mine doesn't start until the end of April. Can't wait!
We were really fortunate to get out there this past weekend. Great weather, great people, and fantastic venue. Good luck at your first event in April, be safe and enjoy!
Great video! I did my first one back in April/May time. That Dunk Wall was absolutely horrifying for me at first, got through it and continued on my way!
Nice job! Dunk wall has a fear factor for a lot of people. We seem to power thru it and always wonder what kind of gross infection we are going to get later! Luck has been on our side (so far)!
Great job, love the new videos!
Glad to hear it!
Doing my 2nd Spartan race in Jacksonville! 5k Sprint in 1hr here we go!❤
Hope you had a great race!!!
Toughest one yet was my Sprint in Mountain Creek....its nothing but high hills on almost all obstacles... Great experience though!
Right on, Mountain Creek is no joke. Glad you had a great experience!
You forgot to mention the leg cramps! Lol they got bad for me in the stretch of mud right before that near impossible z wall.
Too true! Was okay for Sunday's sprint, but I cramped at rope climb on Saturday during the Super.
I'd like to make a video suggestion please: we appear to be of similar age with, I presume jobs, kids, wives, training, etc. I love all things OCR but finding the time and life balance to fit in as much training as I'd like vs keeping the wife happy... Is a challenge. Can you guys wax poetic on your approach to finding time to train in the grind of life? Tips? Thoughts? Train smarter not harder... What do you got for me?
Great idea and you are correct on all points. We will have to work on this one!
@@OCRKings love it! You guys are awesome, keep up the great content.
00:46 my heart broke
He turned out to be OK in the end 😊
I’m running my second spartan sprint tomorrow! My first was a few years back at Nats Park which had no mud but a brutal amount of stairs. Needless to say I’m looking forward to the mud
Awesome and good luck! Have a great race and let us know how it goes!
im going for my first spore spartan this coming saturday...
just checking with u if they really strict on penalty (Doing 30 burpess) if u give up on any station..
Have a great race! They used to be more strict about enforcing penalties. If you are in an open wave, they are very relaxed about doing the full 30 burpees. If you are in an elite or age group wave they will be more strict about it. There may be penalty loops instead of burpees in some spots, where if you don't complete an obstacle, you'll need to run an additional distance (usually 200 meters or so).
Great job! And it looks like the people have returned. Did you notice more people than 2021?
Absolutely, YES!
Hi, Spartan race is coming to my country Slovenia in May. I am thinking about 5km or 10km. Would rather choose 10km but I am not sure about my grip on obsticales. Great video.
Awesome! Definitely think about the 10km, you get some of the "signature" obstacles that aren't typically in the 5k like Twister, The Box, and Olympus. They are harder, but a lot more fun. Either way, good luck at your race, be safe, and enjoy!
@@OCRKings what happens if you cant complete the obstacle, do you know? Thank you for your replay.
@@alensiemens Typically, when you couldn't complete an obstacle you had to do a penalty of 30 burpees. Recently Spartan has introduced penalty loops of 200m. So it might be a penalty of either burpees or some extra running.
@@OCRKings hmmm great sounds good. Thank you.
Love it! When's the next race, and where?
Thanks! And trying to work that out right now... stay tuned!
What cameras did you use, and did you get them with the head strap? Also, how do you keep recording even after the dunk wall, basically submerging the camera into muddy water?
We both used GoPro Hero 8 Black with head mount. After the dunk wall, we both take the cameras off our heads and wipe off the lens with a dry thumb (after wiping on the grass usually).
Any clips from Saturdays Super?
Coming soon! That is the next video we're working on.
@@OCRKings awesome. It was a great shock/ surprise to see you guys make an appearance. Thoroughly enjoy your content, very inspiring. 🤙
Thanks for sharing! Quick question. I have a spartan race in October. I bought a go pro because I wanted to record the footage for my wife to see, but I found out after buying it that go pro batteries only last for like an hour? But I’m doing a beast, so I’ll obviously be on the course for much longer than an hour. Do you have any advice or tips about recording the experience and how to make the most out of it? Thanks!
We do battery swaps during the races and check the battery level repeatedly to try to get the most out of each battery. We use waterproof bags to store the spares (listed here... www.amazon.com/shop/ocrkings). We also do frequent lens wipes to keep everything clean. Everything else is editing.
@@OCRKings Wonderful, thank you!!
you doing the one in queensland?
Quick question... where do you guys stand on the burpees argument? Do you think it is a big deal that some Open runners (not the competitors) skip the burpees?
Good question! For elites and competitive waves, there should be strict enforcement of burpees. For open waves, burpees/penalties should remain (since the threat of a penalty is what makes completing Spartan obstacles so much more satisfying), but as far as having an official count every single one, that seems unnecessary. For open waves, we're fine with the honor system. If some open wave folks skip them, that's lame, but that's on them.
what if you physically can't sustain them?
How the gell do you keep track that people are doing the full obstacles and not just walking them like I seen some ppl do the monkey bars
It depends on the wave and the officials watching the obstacle(s). In the competitive waves they watch very closely. Anyone who skips has to do a penalty. In the open (non-competitive) waves, it's more on the honor system.
I'm really wanting to get into the world of Spartan Races and am looking to do a race in May. What's a competitive time for the sprint/super/beast? I would love to eventually maybe even this year compete seriously in it. Also great footage gives a great idea of what to expect!
Yes join the Spartan tribe! You will not regret it. Races are a ton of fun, give you something to workout towards, and the community is great.
Race times vary a ton depending on the terrain at each venue but spartan does post estimated fastest times on their site for each race. A day after an event, they post race times as well so you can see where you stack up against everyone.
For the quickest math... 1 hour for sprint, 2 hours for super, and 3 hours for beast.
Flat courses will go faster and mountain terrain will be around those times.
Good luck and have fun! Hope to see you out there at a future race! They are addictive!
@@OCRKings Thanks man super excited to get into this and their DEKA series as well!
Are there usually a designated area to put your belongings during the race?
Great question! Yes, almost all the races have a bag check area. Spartan’s is included in the registration fee. The bag check is located right after the entrance to the venue usually, and your bag check ticket comes in the packet you get upon entering (which has your timing chip, headband, and bib number).
Have any tips for shoes and how to complete obstacles that mostly need you to be able to do a pull-up. I cannot, but am pretty limber and stealthy so wondering if there are any tips you have
Shoes are tough. We continue to search for the perfect pair, but it seems like there is no perfect solution. We use either the Innov8 Talons 260 or the Spartan/Craft OCR shoes. Both are pretty good as far as grip and obstacle performance. If you can't do a pull-up, you'll need to use your feet/legs wherever possible. We have a wall climb video that speaks to this (throwing your leg and hooking your foot to help get over the wall). When on the dangling type obstacles, like monkey bars, go to the far edges where they have the step stool things so you don't have to reach or jump for the bars. Once you grab them, move swiftly across, pumping your legs almost like pedaling a bike. This helps create forward momentum and moves your mass forward rather than down. If you can, try and work pull-ups into your workout routine, they really do help if you don't have access to obstacles to practice on. Hope this helps!
Doing it this year. Is there a rinse station at the end to clean up?
Yes, at least as far as we saw in Jacksonville. There was a rinse station at both events. No guarantee though, we've been to many events in the past where there wasn't any. Good luck at your race, be safe, and have a great time!
@@OCRKings Thanks!
Your two do such a great job of capturing footage from and reviewing the races you run that it helps gain interest for others to attend. But, you can't be at every race type or venue. Both national chain and local races.
I've looked for something like this for a few years now but haven't ever found anything like it. It may be something that a community like yours could create. Ratings for things like difficulty, attendance, obstacle types/quality, etc.
What about a community created OCR review site where people who run races around the country post their thoughts and/or photos from venues to support the races you couldn't attend but may be close to others who didn't know of the race in their area.
What are your thoughts on something like that? I got into OCR from watching channels like yours and getting to hear about and preview the events definitely helps more people catch the OCR bug.
FANTASTIC IDEA!!! Would that be something you might be interested in setting up? We would certainly like to contribute to a community based forum such as that. Let us know!
@@OCRKings I've considered it off and on for awhile. I work in the tech field and set up online ordering sites for various companies for my job and that's what made me think of trying. No current plans but I'll keep you posted. Feel free to take the idea and run with it as well if time allows.
My first ever race is tomorrow watching this video got me excited 🔥🔥
Awesome! Good luck tomorrow, have a great race!!
What happens if you can’t complete an obstacle? I can’t climb a rope to save my life.
Good question! OK, typically in Spartan Race, if you are unable to complete an obstacle you must do a penalty, usually 30 burpees. Recently, Spartan has swapped out the burpees for a penalty loop, meaning a missed obstacle like the rope climb may result in an additional (short) distance that must be run, adding time and distance to your results.
You don’t have to do burpees if you do t want to. If your in an open heat you can skip an obstacle or burpees. Only elite and Age group have to do them.
This is from an SGX coach. Run your own race.
very good

@@OCRKings To my Fellow Warriors. Add in the decades of : Training, fighting in and out ring/octagon, working out and praising Yahweh and you have True Warriors forged from iron.
Our only limits are those we put on ourselves, when in reality we are capable of so much more. In truth, we can all move mountains and walk on water, and as Yeshua Ha’mashiach said, “ All the things you see me do, you can do as well, and more.
Warriors hate wasting time
How long did it take
At a casual pace, it took an hour. Pushing really hard and moving very fast, this particular course could be completed in 30 to 35 minutes.
Do they have like 1st place finishes or stuff like that?
Yes, for the competitive waves, they have podium spots and prize money for the top three males and top three females in each category.
I'm about to make my first race at big bear lake CA but my number one question is I'm wearing vision glasses how I'm suppose to pass under water
Great question! Ok, some strategies might include putting your glasses in a pack and taking off and leaving your pack on the ground to the right or left of the dunk wall. Another might include using water proof bags such as these amzn.to/3KaSixv and putting your glasses in there before you go under water (typically only at the dunk wall). Finally, you may want to carry with you a soft eyeglass cleaning cloth with you in a waterproof bag so you can gently remove and water or crud that might get on your glasses (using some clean water to prevent scratches). Hope this helps, and good luck at Big Bear!
Great strategies!!! Thank you so much!! @OCRKIGS
Marlin. I'm near sighted and normally wear proscription. I run without the glasses. I miss the long distance views but having them would slow me down and I would not be as aggressive if I had to worry about them.
Can you manage with contact lenses? I've run a few TM events that way - only lost one once (use disposables) going through Arctic Enema. I'd be nervous about breaking normal glasses on a course.
I'd recommend getting contacts. I'm basically blind without my glasses, but, with contacts, I've done a few OCRs without a problem.
Just wondering, how heavy are the weighted things like the atlas ball, sandbags, etc..?
Excellent question! According to Spartan, the sandbag weighs 60lbs for men, 40lbs for women. The Atlas stone weighs 100 to 110lbs for men and 70-80lbs for women. The bucket can change from race to race, but generally weighs 60lbs for men and 30 to 40lbs for women.
Question: Does anybody know how to protect your glasses from mud? Any suggestions please
Excellent question! Hmm, other than having scratch resistant sport glasses, we're not sure how to keep glasses scratch free, and how to keep mud and water at bay. Not sure if taking them off for certain obstacles is a viable solution, and/or carrying a lens cloth in a dry bag is helpful (or would a cloth be detrimental when dealing with mud). We will post this very question in Reddit and see who responds.
Ok, well spartan reddit hates us apparently. I raised the question there and got flagged immediately. We will try this again in our own forum.
Ok, here are the best answers we suggestions we found: ruclips.net/video/Agw3hkOMEPo/видео.html
I want to do my first race in October. Best way to record it?
Go pro maybe?
Chest or face rig?
GoPro on a head rig is the way to go.
@@OCRKings - sounds good to me. Any certain go pro model you would recommend? Not trying to break the bank here, but maybe I'll find other uses for it.
I think the black 11 is the latest and greatest right?
The 8 is pretty cheap, so are spare batteries in case you want to go that route. Anything above the GP Hero 8 will have the newer bigger batteries. The 10 wasn't so great. We heard the 9 was terrible, so we skipped that one. Haven't heard any negative feedback about the 11, but we haven't had any experience with it yet.
@@OCRKings - sounds like I'll get the 8. Man, i really appreciate the feedback.
Any specific brand head rig you would recommend?
We tend to go for the GoPro branded head mount, but we also have an Amazon generic one, and really it's identical. I believe it's this one: amzn.to/41EZJXk Hope this helps!
Glad to see the crowds are back! Looks like tons of people out there. OCR seasonis back in full swing!
The venue was busy and the waves were full. That was VERY good to see.
So how much do all the object weigh? (Sandbag, Atlas Ball, and the Bucket)
Thought it would be tougher
it was fun
That mud looks like Ohio last year.
Love that mud! It takes forever to get out of the gear and clothes, but still love it!
Did anyone else find it impossible to get the black mud out of their clothes? I had to send my stuff through the wash 3 times!
YES! Had to take the hose to the gear twice, then ended up doing an "I Love Lucy" stomping on them like making wine in the shower BEFORE I could put the stuff in the washing machine!
This mud was insanely hard to remove left my shoes in bucket of soapy water over night.
What was your time?
With battery changes, and meeting and talking to folks out there, it took us about an hour.
@@OCRKings wow congrats!
