i just made a cardigan and my granny squares were all different sizes although they looked the same before:( i made it work out tho but it is not perfect. well it was my first big project ever so its fine:)
A little advice for a beginner while doing grannyal square : finish 1 full granny to see the outcome. If theres a mistake, u can find it right away. If u dont like the color combination, it'll show up
I do this too, make one full one , or however many until I'm satisfied with a color scheme. Then I do all the squares one round at a time and weave in ends as I go. If I try to do them all start to finish my tension difference is insane lol
@@jesfrazits all part of the process dont stop thats where menny people give up plus its only a small mistake alot of work tho i know but you will be amazing keep going 👍👍
This is called “frogging” and it’s absolutely ok. Anytime I start something and it isn’t working out, I just unravel and begin again. YOU’RE DOING VERY WELL! Keep it up 😊
First lesson any crocheter needs to learn is that you HAVE to be okay with frogging hours of work to get the result you want. Never be scared to rip it out and try again, because when you finish it CORRECTLY, you’ll love it so much more than being able to see gaps or bad stitches. Been knitting and crocheting for years and still have to frog work like this 🐸 your blankets so pretty tho
Oh my goodness frogging knitting is so much harder, although depending on what it is, there are tricks that sometimes mean you don't have to frog the whole thing. I would much rather frog crochet than knit. Of course, I would rather not frog either.
@@amberjean631 You are very welcome. I teach knitting and crochet as a side gig and I find that very few videos or patterns explain it. If you see the abbreviation in a pattern that says PM that means place stitch marker.
There’s a super easy way to prevent too many stitches. Use a stitch marker (which can be a store bought one, a paper clip, a safety pin, a scrap piece of yarn, etc.) put it in the first stitch and if you’re uncertain how many you have count from the stitch marker to the one you just made. Hope that helps!
This might sound dumb but I have a hard time counting bc I don’t know where one starts and the other begins. When I’m looking at it, it’s just confusing. Maybe mine are too sloppy or I’m doing them wrong
@@AlisonMendez-bx8tpits really hard in the beginning but it gets better soon. Maybe you can try and count at the same time you crohet so you have the numbers in your head when counting afterwards
@@AlisonMendez-bx8tp it takes practice to learn to see the stitches and know what they are. I was taught to count the Vs along the top edge. Some yarns make this really hard so years later, I learned how to count the post of a stitch. It's a good idea to learn what each stitch looks like. You've got this, just be patient.
I'm quite new to crochet but here is 2 things I find important as a beginner. (Especially for circular or rounded projects) 1. I don't have a stitch marker but you can put a bit of string or thread over the stitch that you're about to start a round/row on and then do the first crochet stitch over it so it marks where the start/end of the round is, so you know if you mess up the round or lose count (and I often lose count) you don't have to undo the whole thing. 2. Count stitches after every row just to be safe. Better to catch the mistake before it becomes a problem. Nothing more frustrating than having to undo a huge chunk of a project.
As a crocheter my favorite part is unraveling and starting things over. I’m a “enjoy the process” gal so I kinda get a little sad when I finish a project, but still proud. :) (it’s like the feeling of getting to the end of the book…bittersweet)

You're not alone, I've been doing crochet for 5 years approx and still today I had to redo my every project because of some minor mistake, even now my thumb hurts as I was remaking the whole sweater front again last night
So ambitious for a first project! You’re definitely learning, it’s all about the process! Doing whole granny squares until you’re sure you’ve got the hang of it is probably your best bet, then for the rest you can do all the circles, then all the petals, etc.
Every flower project I make, one of them always has too many petals and has to be frogged, so don't feel bad. Every home should have one of these blankets, so cute!
Bravo for taking on such a large project when you're just learning! Now you know to quadruple check before you move on to the next step! Keep going and you'll be a pro in no time. Just think of how happy you will be when it's completed and you can cozy up on the couch with it. ❤😊🧶

Oh bless you. Frogging is such a huge part of crochet. Welcome to the club. If it helps, for the future if/when you spot a similar issue, you may not need to frog entirely. Meanwhile I adore your enthusiasm for this project and your persistence with it. You're going to end up with as truly BEAUTIFUL blanket. Happy stitching! ❤
