Looks like Sumter is keeping up with the times... My Daddy was born in Sumter that's where my people are from. It's been a while since I've been through, it sure has changed. I love it there. I'm 69 but I spent a lot of time there as a child. Thank you for a trip down memory lane.
Thank you so much Tyrone Brown! Through you I found my dream home here and with the great help of Jeremy of Gaymon Realty Sumter! I love you! I love SC! May God continue His work here!
Wow...what a treat for a sunday morning. I grew up in Sumter.....lived on Alice Drive. Graduated Edmunds High 71. A wonderful small town to grow up in.....enjoyed every moment. My daddy owned Reeds Jewelry Store on main street. Thanks so much for taking me down memory lane. It was very pleasant trip.
My wife and I lived in Sumter in 1969-70. It was my first air force base and it was great because we were newly weds. We lived in a small duplex on Highland Ave and then in a little brick house on Broad Street. Sumter has really grown since then but most everywhere was a different world in 1969. My wife used to work at the WA Family Store. Thanks for the video Tyrone.
What a sweet Southern town! Your drive through was wonderful, and the town looks so clean and well-kept, even the areas you described as ‘in need of improving’! My son and his family are looking to move to Sumter this autumn, and this gave me such a great ‘picture’ of your town! Thank you! 😘❤️
Thanks for the video!!! I grew up here, a whole lot seems like time stood still, but I could see some changes here and there.... I still don't remember street names (even 'til this day)...
Where the Walgreens is at where the road goes right to 15 and 521..the popular Shrimp Boat once stood there..further down on the left were Maurice Bessingers Piggy Park..and Big Jims drive in
I live in Columbia,SC but went to nursing school at Central Carolina Technical College. I was instructed to go straight to the campus and hospital for clinicals. If I needed to get gasoline then go on Shaw Airforce Base (hubby was a veteran so I had my military iD card), honestly that’s the only time I felt safe in Sumter. One nursing instructor said lots of shootings and people seeking drugs at Prisma Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. On one occasion, patient left the floor to get high, came back under age prostitute having sex in his hospital room. I have met some great people and I have also encountered racism in Sumter ((CCTU) and the drugstore/luncheon.I will never forget the day I was in a car accident and the guy who was driving and girlfriend tried to act like he wasn’t driving and rushed to hospital. Everyone has their own opinion on what they experienced.
It has been awhile since I have been to Sumter, now my two first cousins doesn't live in Sumter, SC. I am like 5-6 hours away from Sumter, SC. I am in Georgia. I need to visit Sumter SC again just to see the downtown area. Even though my two first cousins has move to Texas years ago. My other cousin has sold my aunt house and that cousin lives in Georgia with me, well she's about 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes away from me
Melissa Hi How’s it’s the cost of living in sumter sc n Florence and people there , I’m planning to move out of San Francisco Bay Area ca,in which is great place ,job and people but very expensive area.
I grew up in Sumter. First moved there in 1970 and it still looks the same. Some buildings have changed but it's still the piecemeal planning and junkie sort of enviornment. It's a town of haves and have nots. There's the white side and the black side, the wealthy and the poor. It's a bastion of "good ole boys". I would absolutely never live there again. Don't get me wrong, I love small towns with charm and old architecture. Sumter isn't one of those places. Columbia is good though.

@@hassanwarso3764 South Carolina is a beautiful state. On the surface property taxes are lower, each car pays about 1% of the original value every year as a tax. Car insurance is also very expensive. Medical care isn't that good, however it's better than Las Vegas. The people are friendly, crime is reletively low and there's a great deal to do and see around the state. The food is excellent. From fried chicken, fried fish, barbeque ribs and pork, and you've got to eat boiled peanuts. The negative, and you coming from a bit more liberal place, is that SC is still controlled by The good ole boy network. It's EXTREMELY conservative and many times it as if you've warped back to the 1940's. I do like Columbia, it tends to be a bit more progressive than the rest of the state, but I think that USC being a large university injects some thinking and modenerzation. Again, I love the state, but I can't take the way that skin color makes a difference on how a person is treated.
@@calvinshingleton4754 Thank you very for much to take time and giving me such a great suggestion. I’ll see also in Myrtle Beach because I want start in Horry Horry George Town Technical college , in physical therapy occupational in already other countries. Have a great evening. How about Sumter area and Dazell sc
@@hassanwarso3764 I've livedthere since 1985 and like it but do not recommend living in town. As a PT you have many choices and it's chill here with room to start your own practice. Columbia and Florence are much more competitive. Dalzell isn't bad and I also recommend checking out the area near Manning and that between Sumter and Columbia which would let you choose between the two if your career so suggests. The retiree community is large so you'll never run low on patients and many are vets so if you take Tricare you'll be set for life. The AF base and the complementary constellation of other bases ensures none are likely to ever get BRAC'ed.

It’s grown? I was visiting from the west coast and thought that everything was closed in the downtown area.
@@Farfar3881 Most all downtown areas have vacant storefronts these days. The growth is out on the highway going toward the base.
@@DannyWalker247 Okay. I’ve been riding from 378 to Greeleyville, now I’m going to the low country and checking out the small towns.

Have you ever heard of the smiling Indians or goins Indians by any chance. I'm guessing you might have lived there 37 years ago?
Sumter use to be great, now it is cool but needs more development for it's growing population.
