  • I visited Fort Sumter National Historical Park (National Monument) in May 2021. This video is about the fort and the ferry ride to the fort. I was also able to find some great pictures of the fort (during the Civil War) at the Library of Congress, that show the destruction that the fort suffered in April of 1861.

When I make a video from the Civil War, I like to go to the Library of Congress and the National Archives, and get pictures. I find that pictures make history come alive.

I visited about a year ago. I recall it was a very hot day but it was cool and comfortable in the harbor. My other recollection is the place seemed small. Pictures of the bombardment make the fort seem bigger. Thanks for posting the video.

I just went on Saturday. Could not agree more with the length of the tour. It should to quote Gilligan's Island be a "three hour tour". Great video presentation. I will go back someday to see more.

There's so many historic places in Charleston that you need at least a week to visit them. My favorite spot was Fort Moultrie because you're not constrained by a tour schedule like at Sumter.

I agree that Fort Moultrie is a great place to visit.

Stupidest thing the confederacy did was fire the first shot. Without that first shot the confederacy may eventually have been able to convince England and France to recognize it. At that point it’s all done and dusted.

The Number of slave states was Important, not for slaves. But, votes in congress to hold off Lincoln's taxes. Why Lincoln didn't want anymore slave states. He wanted the money.

When I seen people wearing masks outside, I had to stop the video.

@@doorwatcher No, that is actually the entire point bud. Most public facilities and Gov sites in early/mid 2021 required masks, which is when this was filmed/uploaded. Thats my point ...Oh and by me stating this fact dont assume I agree with that eras masking policy. What I am saying is your comment is absurd to criticize the OP for it, because the alternative was to just not be able to experience and see these sites at that time at all.

Hey bud, I know. I lived through the nonsense myself. That's my frustration with seeing people wearing masks outdoors in a video. I lived through the madness. Had the opportunity to see the same content in a different video.
No hair off my n-tts. Sorry it bothered you so much .
Hope things get better for ya....Bud
      Much love
