Rails to River MTB Race 2024 (Sport 40+) 2nd place

Sport Male Master 40+ at the EX2 Adventures' Rails to River MTB Race at Lake Fairfax on 6/2/2024. Full Lap 1 and the last 1 mile of Lap 2
Super excited about my first podium at a MTB race. With hard work and some luck I was able to take the lead and hold on to it until the last mile. The last 2 miles I got some strong cramps in both legs that forced me to drop pace. I could not put any power down where it mattered. Even tech areas was tough as I could not push hard to gain a gap.
So some maybe wondering why I got 2nd place. The time is based on a sensor on our # plate. John started in front of me so he triggered the Start timer first then I did a second or 2 later. At the finish, the time he passed me was not greater than the time he started from me. If I was 3’ back on the finish then he would have beat me. It’s all about the timing trigger on the plate. The timing also only goes tenths on the display so you do see that it was by mere hundredths or thousandths that I got the 2nd place.
