Promises, Promises was my first Broadway show in 1970. I was 22 years old and fell in love with Jill O'Hara. I still have the LP and play it often. Many other musicals have followed but I always have a soft spot in my heart for my first, and Jill.
I would under-rate ever other version by any other singer. This is the definitive delivery of this song, by Jill O'Hara. No one else comes close to this performance, a bullseye.
Jill is the best. There's a longing in her voice that no other performer of this song has been able to match, not Dionne or Dusty or Kristin or anyone.
Jill had a Magnificent Voice. I saw her in the original production. But really did not think too much about her at that time. Probably because she was following Shirley MacLaine.
Great song! I was 10 years when "Promises" hit Broadway -- along with "Hair" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", it was one of the seminal shows I grew up with. "Promises" is still hard-wired in my head, due in large part to O'Hara's great performances of "When to Leave", "Whoever You Are", and "I'll Never Fall in Love (Again)", to which I listened (repeatedly) on the B'way cast recording by the then-magic of the 33 RPM vinyl album on my parents' stereo. Thanks Jill!
No other singer can match her. Lots of words tripped up Dionne, but Jill's diction is spot on. Does anyone recall who replaced Jill O'Hara when she left the show? Jenny O'Hara, her twin.

Underrated version of a great Burt Bacharach song. ❤

@@jackmason4029 it’s the one on my 3cd Burt Bacharach collection. I love it.

Thats what it is. Even the music by itself, the strings, drums, and piano are so powerful in this version.
I truly love her singing
I like Dusty's version best.

Love it!
inspiring
I always felt the final note should have been accompanied by the main rhythmic hook in counterpoint with a cadence of course.
You tell that to Burt Bacharach. See if he cares.
